There is a fuller reference in this article - I can't find a current online link to it

Bios-3: Siberian Experiments in Bioregenerative Life Support Frank B. Salisbury, Josef I. Gitelson, Genry M. Lisovsky BioScience, Vol. 47, No. 9 (Oct., 1997) , pp. 575-585

The facility used 400 kw per day? week? hour?

I can't find the 400 kW figure in the references. However, I take this as average continuous power usage, which is pretty significant, but adds up. The 20 6kW lamps take 120kW power, maybe another times that much for cooling the lamps, representing over half of the energy usage. Add in the thermocatalytic filter and other miscellaneous power requirements, and it's a believable figure.
As such, it would be 400kW * 24h = 9.6 MWh per day, 67.2 MWh per week, 288 MWh per month. At local energy rates of $0.06/kWh, that's a staggering $17,280 per month. The cost of living is steep. Ayecee (talk) 21:46, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why "-3"?

[edit]

If the "-3" is original, the risk of confusion with the "-2" in "Biosphere-2" is large, and an explanation should be explictly given.

If, OTOH, the number is a later addition that does play on "Biosphere-2", the original name should be mentioned. Further, it would likely be best to rename the entire article to match. 88.77.149.250 (talk) 02:28, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
