I reinstated my changes on Arap Mosque. As I have written on the comment to my edit, the Jews coming from Spain were not resettled in Galata. The Jewish settlement in Galata occurred a couple of hundred years later. Moreover Hasköy, which - as you correctly wrote - lies in front of Balat - has nothing to do with Galata. If you are confused about the historical geography of Istanbul (I wrote historical, since as Istanbullu I am sure that you know well the city as of today), you can usefully consult the books of Müller-Wiener and Janin. To be clear, when one uses "Galata" in the context of the 15th-16th century, one means the Genoese citadel. Generally speaking, when I write something on Wikipedia, I try to support the information with reliable sources: in this case this is the book of Robert Mantran ("La vie quotidienne a Constantinople..."). Mantran about the Jewish settlements in Istanbul uses as sources the two Celebis, which you can read, but I cannot (there is no translation available :-( ). Moreover, about the Jews in Istanbul you can read: "A history of the Jewish community in Istanbul" by Minna Rozen: there, are explained in detail all the changes in the Jewish settlement in the city around the centuries. No doubt that the Sephardi Jews of Spain landed in Istanbul (via Salonika) after 1492, what I mean is that on my sources there is no mention of Galata as settlement for them until the middle of the seventeenth century. Well, I will check at the main library in the next days. Anyway, the intro has other problems, I am going to fix them. Bye Alex2006 (talk) 04:55, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
