Pokémon

[edit]

Why are Pokémon mentioned in this article? To my knowledge, it has never been officially confirmed that Pokémon are animals, so I made a constructive edit on this article, but it was reverted in haste. If this topic is left with no response within 24 hours, I will undo the revert at my earliest convenience. Thank you. 208.138.49.48 (talk) 17:08, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No need to threaten an edit war. The reason Pokémon are mentioned in this context is because they are often based around animals, have the aesthetics of animals, and may behave as animals. It makes sense for our reliable sources to include a reading of Pokémon as animal companions, and we simply quote them. Of course, if you look deeper, the relationship is more complex. This article could perhaps use a bit of text to describe how video games present monsters (in the broad sense) as equivalent to animals. There's more depth there. ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 11:15, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, OK. I understand where you're coming from, and I didn't even think of this explanation or reasoning myself! Also, I'm not threatening an edit war, or at least I don't think I am. I just couldn't think of a better way to express myself. And I accept your explanation, thus I won't undo the revert of my edit or something like that. Thank you. 208.138.49.48 (talk) 14:45, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, thank you for being so easy to reason with! Personally, if I make a change, someone reverts me, and I start a discussion per WP:BRD, I wait for at least several days of no reaction before I redo the edit. 24 hours feels a bit short, and also because I like to WP:Assume good faith I wouldn't declare what I'll do if no one responds. But I definitely know the feeling: too often people just don't respond at all when you start a talkpage discussion. It's so frustrating! ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 08:47, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
