Charles (not Robert) Stuart King

[edit]

I have corrected Oxford player named as Robert Stuart King to Charles James Stuart King whose identity is borne out in team line up in initials in contemporary newspaper match reports (confirmed in Keith Warsop's 'The Early FA Cup Finals and the Southern Amateurs' (2004)). The former, who has a wikipedia article, was Charles' brother. Charles, who has not yet an article, lived 1860-1928.Cloptonson (talk) 16:50, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have redlinked his name to encourage an article to be written.Cloptonson (talk) 12:56, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I am pleased to note there is now an article Charles King (footballer), to which I have added cited information on his football play today.Cloptonson (talk) 19:31, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fictional Account

[edit]

The match has not appeared in historical fiction to my knowledge, but I thought fit to mention a spoof anecdote published by a guest-editor in The Independent in 2006, in which Oscar Wilde is given as a guest-player for Oxford. Lest anyone be tempted to delete it, my motive is to debunk this anecdote as likely to give rise to a Wildean legend among less discerning readers. Wilde was not known for a love of sport, apart from boxing at University.Cloptonson (talk) 12:38, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Reginald Thomas Heygate

[edit]

I have altered the linked name of Reginald Heygate, which links to article on a cricketer born after the event, to his full name of Reginald Thomas Heygate, again to encourage an article to be written. RTH became a clergyman.Cloptonson (talk) 05:55, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
