Early life and background

[edit]

Zionce was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Toronto, Canada.[2] His journey into journalism began as a regular writer for Ami Magazine, where he initially focused on local stories in Israel. His travel writing career took off after he wrote about a vacation in Thailand, leading to opportunities for further assignments by the magazine.[3]

Career highlights

[edit]

As the foreign correspondent for Ami Magazine, Shloime has become recognized as one of the few Orthodox Jewish traveling journalists.[4] He has also emerged as a significant figure on platforms like YouTube, where his videos have garnered millions of views.[1]

His latest series, titled "The Endurance of a Jew," focuses on Chabad Shluchim, demonstrating their impact globally. The series includes spotlights on communities in places like Mumbai, Dubai, Morocco, and Montana, highlighting the unique experiences and contributions of these emissaries in diverse and sometimes challenging environments.[3]

He has collaborated with Peter Santenello on a series of videos showing Orthodox Jews in a positive light to the outside world.[5][6]

Personal observations and insights

In interviews, Shloime has shared his evolving connection with Chabad, acknowledging that he did not grow up within the Chabad community. His deeper engagement began after personal experiences, such as spending Shabbat at a Chabad house, which transformed his understanding of Shlichus—the emissary role within Judaism.[3]
