Template talk:Welcometest
I suggest deleting the invitation to "ask me on my talk page." What do people think? 69.140.152.55 (talk) 01:39, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

with with?
editprotected Please modify the first sentence of the second paragraph to read just one instance of 'with'. Also, please include just like for example Template:Welcome if possible, for easier navigation. — Ewald || contact talk | email || info user | contrib || posted on 06:29, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
Please add an interwiki link

Please add optional link to edited article
editprotected
I'd like to modify this template if possible so users have the option of piping a bluelink to the article it references within the message. This would bring it into line with the wording in other similar templates and would make it clear which of the user's edits is being referred to, avoiding duplicate warnings. My suggestion is to amend the code in paragraph 2 to read:
Thank you for experimenting with our encyclopedia. The test edit you made {{{}#if:{}|to :{} }}worked, and it has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you may want to do.
I think this suggested amendment is formatted correctly but if you do change the template please check carefully first - I'm not a natural with code. Karenjc 19:37, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
- No consensus for such a change and it's confusing as to what should be changed. Please use Template:Welcometest/sandbox. Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 07:33, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
- I've created Template:Welcometest/sandbox with my proposed rewording, and I've set up two examples at User:Karenjc/sandbox2 to show how it transcludes in use. As you can see in the first example, if you use the new template as is, the result is identical to that of the current live version. However, if you pipe a link to an article inside the template then the template wording references it correctly, as can be seen in the second example. It's just the same as the way the vandalism warning templates at WP:UTM work.
- I'm a patroller of the User Creation Log so I'm always picking up brand new users making a first, unhelpful edit. I'm also a welcomer who doesn't like biting until it's necessary. I use this template regularly to combine a friendly welcome with a gentle notice that a specific edit has been reverted as "a test". I find it deeply frustrating that the current version doesn't allow me to pipe a link to the offending edit in the text of the welcome - when dealing with new users, it's best to be as specific as possible rather than just saying "your test has been reverted". I'd be very grateful for any feedback on this proposed change - it's in line with how other similar templates operate and it would be very useful. Thanks Karenjc 19:38, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Signature?
Perhaps you could put a ~~~~ at the end of the template, so that people won't accidentally issue anonymous welcomes? Or else add a line to the documentation to remind people to sign? Jowa fan (talk) 05:50, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
PAGENAME
This edit request has been answered. Set the |answered= or |ans= parameter to no to reactivate your request. |
Please change PAGENAME
in the first line to
, the code from the main Welcome template. This makes the welcome message seem more personalised when the user clicks "Edit". This newbie edit demonstrates the unfriendliness of the current coding. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:51, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
Linking to the Teahouse on the welcome template
Hi everyone. Those of us involved at the Teahouse pilot are interested in seeing a link to the Teahouse placed in this welcome template. This will be able to help us drive new editor traffic to the Teahouse during this pilot period, and allow us to continue to assess the pilot to the best of our ability. The welcome template is a great and powerful tool for new users, and it'd be really valuable to give new editors the choice to visit the Teahouse for assistance and community experience. I do hope that you will support this. Thank you for your consideration :) Sarah (talk) 00:00, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Confusing text
The present text says "type helpme here on your talk page", which is often not going to get the point across. It needs to be spelled out more explicitly, e.g.: "click Edit (above) to edit this talkpage, then add helpme and click Save page (below). Someone willl show up to help you."
