Song |
"Figure 8" is a song by British recording artist Ellie Goulding. It is scheduled for release in the United Kingdom on December 16, 2012 as the second single from Halcyon (2012).[2] The song was written by Goulding and Jonny Lattimer, and produced by MONSTA and Mike Spencer.[1]
Background
Goulding premiered the song at the iTunes Festival on September 26, 2012 in London's Roundhouse. It was the second song on her set list and since then she has continued to perform the song, often as the second track on her set-list, in her various Halcyon promotional tours across Europe and America. It was mentioned on Goulding's Twitter in October that a video for the single is coming "soon".[citation needed]
Critical reception
Entertainment Time said the song helps her "Maintain this authority quickly after on the galloping bruises of “Figure 8″ , a defensive track that finds her reasoning with her scorched paths".[citation needed] BBC said "the likes of Figure 8 and Atlantis become bottomless pits filled with heavy-handed knob-twiddling.",[citation needed] while Digital Spy noted "'Figure 8 continues to explore Ellie's ascent into womanhood, centering around her experience of being left heartbroken by a former love over a buzzing dubstep bassline that vibrates with a gentle nod to the album's namesake."[citation needed] Lastly, idolator.com claimed "'Figure 8' gives the obligatory concession to dubstep, with production by MONSTA serving as effectively, if not more so, than Goulding’s boyfriend Skrillex himself would have done."[citation needed]
Music Video
During an interview with Muzu.tv on 16 November 2012 Goulding stated that the music video had already been filmed. The video has been released on 19 November 2012 on Goulding's VEVO YouTube channel.
