The opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics will take place at Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi, Russia, on 7 February 2014, starting at 20:14 Moscow Time (UTC+4).[1] This will be the first Winter Olympics and first Olympic Games opening ceremony under the IOC presidency of Thomas Bach from Germany.[2][3][4]

Controversies
The Russian pop duo t.A.t.u. is to perform in part of the opening day festivities. The pair are widely known for their fake lesbian antics as part of their stage shows from their heyday. Those antics are now illegal under current Russian law.[20]
