Ángel Cappa (born September 6, 1946 in Bahía Blanca) is a former Argentine footballer who worked as the manager of River Plate.

Career

Cappa played for Olimpo de Bahía Blanca in the 1960s and 1970s. Following his retirement as a player he took up coaching. He worked as assistant manager to César Luis Menotti in FC Barcelona (1984), C.A. Peñarol (1985) and Boca Juniors (1987), as well as, for Jorge Valdano with CD Tenerife (1992-94) and Real Madrid (1994-96) before becoming a head coach in his own right.

Coaching career

He has worked as the manager of clubs in several countries including Las Palmas and Tenerife in Spain, Racing Club in Argentina, Atlante in Mexico, Universitario in Peru and Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.

His team at Huracan was especially lauded for their good attractive, attacking play during the Clausura 2009 tournament [1]. Following the tournament two of the key players in his team, Javier Pastore and Matías De Federico left the club. The following season Huracán struggled near the bottom of the league and Cappa resigned in November after the 15th round of fixtures. On 13 April 2010 River Plate chairman hired former Huracan coach to replace Leonardo Astrada.[2]
