Environmental and Social Safeguards
Our commitment: avoiding, minimising and compensating environmental and social risks
NABU conducts its international work as a socially responsible organisation in the communities in which NABU itself and its partners live and work. The success of our work depends on the wellbeing of nature and people. Therefore, we are fully committed to avoid, minimise, or compensate environmental and social risks. This is valid for NABU, its subsidiaries, and our partners.
The External Communication and Grievance Mechanism
The grievance mechanism provides a means to address stakeholders’ complaints. The External Communication and Grievance Mechanism (ECGM) is a key tool for NABU’s international work to receive and facilitate resolution of communities’ grievances about NABU’s environmental and social performance. NABU will inform local communities and other stakeholders about the ECGM during its community engagement processes.
This ECGM will be implemented for all international projects and will be available throughout all phases of the projects including initiating, planning, implementing, monitoring/controlling, and closing.
