Suspected sockpuppets

Evidence submitted by RolandR (talk)

Identical edit pattern -- contentious unsourced characterisation of political parties, many edit summaries saying "I think this is so", poor spelling and erratic capitalisation. The IP has been blocked twice in the past two days for this behaviour, and the puppeteer was blocked for the same reason the previous day. RolandR (talk) 00:01, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

IP now blocked for third time in three days.[1] RolandR (talk) 07:01, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And the suspected puppeteer is still continuing his disruptive editing. RolandR (talk) 07:17, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator note They look like the same user. Same types of articles, language, etc. Greekboy12345er6 blocked 1 week for block evasion. IP's block reset and extended for 1 week. Elockid (Talk) 14:48, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cklear sock. Exactly the same pattern of disruptive editing for which this puppeteer and puppets have been repeatedly blocked: [2], [3], [4], [5] and many more. RolandR (talk) 19:04, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator note Lugiboy78 blocked indef. Unlike the first IP, the IP in this report did not really quack for me. Secondly, the first IP and this report's IP do not geolocate to the same country, not even the same continent. So, I'm leaving that alone. Elockid (Talk) 01:42, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Very similar behaviour, including edit-warring over unsupported changes to descriptions of politicians and political parties and refusal to take part in talk pages. Compare edits by this editor and blocked socks to, eg, Workers' Party of Korea, Fiorello La Guardia, Mongolian People's Party and many more. RolandR (talk) 22:53, 10 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

CheckUser can't do anything here - the IP is already blocked and CheckUsers will not publically link accounts and IP addresses. Not much more to do here I'd say. WilliamH (talk) 15:44, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly the same editing pattern as described in previous Greekboy12345er6 cases: arbitrarily and unilaterally altering ideologies and party spectrum positions in the infoboxes of political parties without sources, explanations or discussion. RJFF (talk) 00:51, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This editor, who does indeed look very like the serial puppeteer Greekboy12345er6, appears to be carrying on his disruptive behaviour using several Chilean IPs. I have added a couple more; there are probably others. RolandR (talk) 17:34, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Most previous IP socks of Greekboy have located to Oakland. So, though the above IPs are clearly socks of Danrolo (who states on his userpage that he comes from Chile), this may be another disruptive editor with similar editing patterns, rather than a puppet of Greekboy. • Closing, per RolandR's second comment really. I add that Danrolo is a very established account from 2007, that alone makes it in this case a bit unlikely.
If this is really disruptive enough I'm afraid you'll have to bring him to ANI again (with diffs of problematic edits, diffs that show it was explained to him why they are problematic, and diffs that show he ignored those attempts and continued).

This IP has the same characteristic editing pattern, of unexplained and unsourced changes to ideologies of political parties, organisations and individuals. IP does not ever take part in talk page discussions or justify edits. The IP appears to be in the same range as other blocked socks of this serial puppeteer.

In fact, on checking, it turns out that this IP has itself previously been blocked as a puppet. Quack Quack! RolandR (talk) 09:16, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Given the very large number of edits from this account, it may take some time to clear up the damage. Are there any admin tools that can roll back large numbers of edits, if they are not the last edits on a page? RolandR (talk) 09:13, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • IP has been blocked for a month by HJ Mitchell. I've upped the account's block to 2 weeks for block evasion. Keep an eye on this account. The revision deleted edit summaries by the IP are concerning. Mike VTalk 22:10, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for pointing this out. I saw the request above first, but didn't make the connection until I saw this one. I've blocked the account indefinitely. Previous reports haven't really turned up any additional accounts, so I don't think a check is needed here. Mike VTalk 22:25, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Okay, per ANI, let's reopen this. Checkuser helps a little, because there is (or at least was) socking going on. Specifically, these three accounts are   Confirmed for each other, but before that is stale:

That's as far as CU can take us, but it is worth another look over just to be sure. Courcelles 14:27, 11 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've looked over the contributions and the 3 accounts definitely are connected to each other. The accounts have the same behavior as Greekboy12345er6, so I feel it's fair to conclude that they are related. In regards to the IP, the edit summaries are similar to JA's MO, but the IP made the same edits to the redirects as AsharaDayne did. It's possible that JA made those edits in an attempt to mimic the user or it could be that the user decided to make rude comments similar to what JA would do. Either way, the IP has been blocked and it's really not important to figure out who the IP actually is. Mike VTalk 19:29, 11 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like (much) more of the same: unexplained changes to ideologies of political parties, with no edit summaries and no participation in talk pages. This editor targets many of the same articles, with an identical MO. Previous socks may be stale as far as CU is concerned, but it would still be useful in order to identify any further current or sleeper accounts of this prolific puppeteer. RolandR (talk) 11:23, 1 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Vanjagenije, it's difficult to identify any one edit as clear evidence; what we see here is a clear pattern of editing. For instance, Travelbybus frequently adds an unsourced characterisation as "far-right",[6] "centre-left",[7] "centre-right,[8] or similar to articles about political parties. Previously blocked socks have done the same: [9], [10], [11]. This editor has made several hundred such edits, as have previously blocked socks. Like the previously blocked socks, the editor rarely uses edit summaries, and never engages in talk-page discussion. The pattern of editing is so similar that it appears to me an obvious sock, following the same obsessive and disruptive pattern.— Preceding unsigned comment added by RolandR (talkcontribs) 01:09, 2 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Continued unsourced alteration of political ideologies, as per many already-blocked socks of this serially disruptive puppeteer RolandR (talk) 10:27, 3 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

For example, compare these edits by Buzzbuzzwilli[12][13][14][15] with these by Greekboy sock Travelbybus[16][17][18]; or, on another article, this by Bbw[19] with this by an IP blocked as a Greekboy sock[20]; or this by Bbw[21] with this by yet another IP blocked as a Greekboy sock[22]. Across a score or more of articles, this editor is making the same, or very similar, edits as several previously identified and blocked socks. RolandR (talk) 16:40, 3 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

See also this SPI which I filed, attempting to connect Buzzbuzzwili with several other accounts, with lots of diffs, but I hadn't noticed the connection to greekboy. The behavior is indeed highly similar. •   Additional information needed - @RolandR: In order to facilitate and expedite your request, please provide diffs to support your case. Please give two or more diffs meeting the following format:
  1. At least one diff is from the sockmaster (or an account already blocked as a confirmed sockpuppet of the sockmaster), showing the behaviour characteristic of the sockmaster.
  2. At least one diff per suspected sockpuppet, showing the suspected sockpuppet emulating the behaviour of the sockmaster given in the first diff.
  3. In situations where it is not immediately obvious from the diffs what the characteristic behaviour is, a short explanation must be provided. Around one sentence is enough for this. Vanjagenije (talk) 11:44, 3 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
