Suspected sockpuppets

Currently blocked for vandalism and recently subject to ANI for disruptive editing against consensus. IP-hopping editor warring at numerous rural municipality (county-equivalent) articles and lists, particularly at List of municipal districts in Alberta and List of rural municipalities in Saskatchewan, renaming the municipalities contrary to the consensus here for Alberta and the extrapolated approach of that consensus here for Saskatchewan. The IP-hopping editor recently stabilized at 70.77.224.98 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) in early March and even finally reached out to me on my talk page here. Following my response, the editor evidently didn't like it and reverted me yet again with this edit with a strange and unfounded accusation. While I think comparing contribution histories should be sufficient, here are some diffs from four different articles:

All IPs seem to geolocate to the same place. I am hoping that, while investigating the one inactive account and all IPs if there can be a check to see if there is an overarching sock at a registered account at which non-controversial contributions occur and the above do that editor's controversial bidding; a Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde situation, if you will. I've dropped uw-login on Canadiancounties and the rest of this is basically a fishing expedition. June 2021 summary of evidence:

  • After being blocked for disruptive editing in April 2021, IP-70 returned, being disruptive at certain articles again, and began IP-hopping within the 2601.3D09.E110-series of IPs.
  • Observe this comment by 70.77.224.98 following the April 2021.
  • Then observe this edit summary by 2604:*:30d4 expressing a similar sentiment.
  • Also observe 70.77.224.98 expressing "appreciate Alberta's counties in their full glory".
  • Then see 2604:*:32df expressing appreciation for the same.
  • It is evident from these examples that these edits are from the same editor at different IPs.
  • As for the third, fourth, and fifth IPs, see their contribution histories that overlap at articles such as List of municipal districts in Alberta, CFB Cold Lake, Municipal District of Bonnyville No. 87, Qikiqtaaluk Region, and Kivalliq Region, as well as other articles in the Canadian census division, region, county, and rural municipality realms.
  • I filed the above in June 2021 but incorrectly at the SPI redirect so it was reverted and I didn't redo it properly until now.
  • It is recognized that 70.77.224.98 got blocked again in September 2021 for disruptive editing.

So it is well-established above that the IP-hopper, aka the short-lived Canadiancounties, is so obsessed about counties and misapplication of the US system of counties and seats in Canada. With some regret, I have to draw some observations relating to the productive contributions of Awmcphee. I hope I am wrong about this, but my suspicions have grown so strong they can't be ignored.

There is more but I think the above is sufficient to get the ball rolling on this. Note Awmcphee links to a personal webpage on his user page that confirms actual identity, and that a web search subsequently confirms significant fondness of counties in Canada, Improvement District No. 349, and misapplication of "seat" to Canadian contexts, but I am not sure I can provide that evidence per WP:OUTING.

Request: seeking permanent block of various IP socks (may want to consider doing the same for the other IPs at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Canadiancounties/Archive) and an indefinite range block of the 2601.3D09.E110-series. If it is determined that Awmcphee is behind the edits of the various IP socks, I am curious to know what the repercussions would be. The editor registered in 2016, which would technically make Awmcphee the sockmaster and Canadiancounties the first sock account as it was registered in 2020. I just happened to have one of these IP addresses on my watchlist (probably thanks to Twinkle). No idea what the context here is and I have not read through the report, but just noting for ease of reference that all of the IP addresses listed above except 70.77.224.98 fall within the range 2604:3d09:37f:e110:0:0:0:0/64 (talk · contribs · WHOIS). Canadiancounties appears to be an enthusiastic fan of my work. They have tried to get ahold of me across multiple platforms with messages similar to what you see in public. I would guess they're involved with "Election Twitter", an informal community of people who share a characteristic interest in politics and administrative boundaries. I am rarely active on Wikipedia because my cartography hobby has since grown into a home business. Awmcphee (talk) 03:55, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Spicy. Admittedly I continue to have difficulty grasping CheckUser, but what I was most interested in is whether there were any connections between the Canadiancounties and Awmcphee accounts when both were active at the same time (August 2020).   • The IPs have been long-term blocked [39][40]. I don't see any real evidence that Canadiancounties and Awmcphee are the same person; they only overlap on a single article, and the edits there are a year apart. I'll note for future reference that if a connection between the two is established, this case should be renamed to Awmcphee as the older account.
