The user account popped up yesterday and suspiciously started off with unhatting a section on a talk page: [1], the edit log was originally concerning however I reverted their change and continued as usual. After checking back later, I found they had unhatted the section again, this time, they also for some bizarre reason they edited; [2] a comment made by the previous known sock User:Negin1. After looking into the users global contributions, I saw that they have only contributed twice and both times are the diffs I have provided above. Additionally, the first edit by the user was at a similar time to when the previous sock was known to make edits at around 12:00; [3] and the user account was made 3 minutes; [4] before they made their first edit raising suspicions as to how they wanted to be on that talk page specifically to make an edit and moreover why their only contributions are somewhat unconstructive edits on a talk page. My conclusion is that like User:Negin1, User:NaneSarma is also a sock of User:Gaditano23, based on the timings and nature of their edits, as well as the sudden creation of the user for no other apparent purpose. Chieftain Tartarus (talk) 11:23, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
- The user just made an edit to their userpage; [5] which also follows patterns seen in Gaditano23's previous socks: [6], [7], [8] Chieftain Tartarus (talk) 11:31, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

- Please sign your comments, also there is sufficient evidence to suspect you of Sock Puppetry, the fact that an account made yesterday is knowledgeable on these guidelines further proves my point. As do your unnecessary edits on three articles to try and make your account appear more genuine. The one liner user page is also a classic sign of sock puppets from the user as well as the 'Hi, I'm' Chieftain Tartarus (talk) 11:52, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
- I'm knowledgeable because I googled them. Your evidence is that I can use google, I edit a few random articles and I said hi? This uncivil behavior is conducive to the death of wikipedia. All this over the spelling of "focused". Its ridiculous and a little bit petty IMO. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NaneSarma (talk • contribs) 12:07, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
- Convenient isn't it that you happen to use the word 'petty' when that's exactly the word I used against User:Negin1 when he was being adamant about the word 'focused' being spelt like that, [9]. There's too many coincidences for you to be an unrelated user. Chieftain Tartarus (talk) 12:19, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

User Sonrisas1 (the most active sock) was a editor who contributed almost exclusively to articles on Catalonia and who was especially focused on criticism of the Catalan independence movement as racist or xenophobic. That user was banned on 2018-01-03, but a number of IP editors, as well as a couple of single purpose accounts have attempted to restore materials that Sonrisas1 wrote or translated. All of the users listed above focus on this topic to the exclusion of anything else, and most are inactive before Sonrisas1 was banned. All of the IPs are based either in the UAE or Kabul, although I am suspicious of a handful of IP editors based in Madrid as well. Call me paranoid.
UAE based IPs:
- 94.207.115.54 This UAE address popped up to !vote in the deletion discussion for Catalan Supremacy as its very first post. The only other post ever made from this IP was to the Genetic History of the Iberian Pennisula that (sockmaster) Azerti83 also edited.
- 94.205.213.10 Shortly before being banned, Sonrisas1 called for a criticism section that would discuss allegations that the Catalan independence movement is xenophobic, and added a long list of Spanish sources purportedly containing the critique. In April, this new UAE-based IP user restarted the talk page discussion, and then proceeded to create a criticism section with the exact same sources in exactly the same order that they appeared on the talk page. The new section also borrows some of Sonrisas1's distinct phrasing - such as describing Ines Arrimadas as the "leader of most voted party in Catalonia" (see here)
- 94.205.253.198,217.165.72.165,94.204.228.165 are other UAE based IP addresses have popped up to edit Catalonia related content, always with the same editorial stance and often re-igniting the exact same debates Sonrisas1 was engaged in when they were banned. None of these have any edits outside of Catalan topic areas, and none appear to have been used prior to Sonrisas1 being banned.
Kabul based IPs
- 180.94.83.10 came along to restore Sonrisas1's edits to Xarnegos a week after he was banned. Compare this (diff) to these edits from Sonrisas1 (diff, diff). This same IP user also added a hyperbolic description of anti-independence protests to the Catalan Independence Movement article (diff). This is identical to material created by Sonrisas1 here.
- 103.42.3.50 also added the same material to Xarnegos (diff)
Accounts:
- Miska5DT added a portion of the Catalan Supremacism page to the Catalan Independence Movement section. (diff). This was a partial translation of an es.wiki entry, but the portion copied here comes from Sonrisas1 and was deleted over that editor's strenuous objection. It appears to be copy pasted from the last section in the deletionpedia entry for Catalan Supremacy. Miska5DT later restored the mostly unsourced content on Catalan Supremacism that was added by one of the UAE IPs below. (diff) Miska5DT also appears to share Sonrisas1's inability to cite things appropriately - just sticking a URL inside a ref tag without any additional info, or leaving citations out entirely. (example, comparison)
- Negin1 (a confirmed Sock of Gaditano23) stored Sonrisas1's version of Xarnegos on their sandbox. Compare this sandbox to this version from Sonrisas1. I suspect there may be a connection between Gaditano23 and Azerti83
- Wikilegionarios (confirmed sock) created another sandbox article that copied Sonrisas1's Catalan Supremacism page - although it's not visible to me. Someone else may have created this, I'm not sure, but it was also deleted on 11-26.
- Gssamaniego created Catalan Race draft entry which is also nearly identical to the deleted Catalan Supremacy article.
Sorry for the length, I tried to organize as best as I could. Nblund talk 21:21, 19 July 2018 (UTC)

edit@Bbb23: I'm trying to find any non-stale evidence linked to Azerti83 that could possibly be used by a CU, but without success. It appears that you did a CU-block on Azerti83 last January, but I can't find any details. Is there anything else to look at for this user? If not, I think we need to decline the CU request on the grounds that everything is stale. — Richwales (no relation to Jimbo) 05:10, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
- I previously found Negin1 to be a sock of Gaditano23 (talk · contribs · count). Based on a review of this case and the Gaditano23 case, the latter, which has a newer master, should be merged into this one. Miska5DT is Likely, blocked and tagged. Gssamaniego is Unrelated.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:47, 23 July 2018 (UTC)

The sockmaster (Azerti83) was banned in early 2018. I get the impression that it has continued on and off since that point. All three accounts share the same basic editorial stance and interests. The names follow the same pattern of word + some number that other sock puppets have followed. Negin2019 is particularly close to Negin1 another Azerti83 sockpuppet that was blocked in March of last year.
Negin2019 is clearly linked through their edits to Xarnegos:
- SP Sonrisas1 vs. Negin2019. Negin2019's version here is identical to the last version from Graphext (another Azerti83 sock) that was in place just before that user was blocked for sockpuppetry.
Filologo2 and Harlyn35 are more complicated, but also linked to Negin1 through several very similar edits over a longer period of time. Most of these are related to downplaying any role that Spain may have played in genocides of Native Americans. Examples:
- Harlyn35, Filologo2 and Negin1 all removing the same claim about Junipero Serra on Genocide of indigenous peoples
- Negin1 Filologo2 on the role of disease in wiping out native populations after Spanish conquest. Harilyn35 is currently making the same argument on the talk page.
Sock 3 (Harlyn35) is the only sock puppet that is recently active, but the others were active earlier this year and it seems worthwhile to go ahead and document this since the abuse seems fairly extensive. It seems pretty likely that there is also a fair bit of IP socking going on, as well as other (anti-Spain) sockpuppets warring over the content. Nblund talk 23:54, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
- adding Here's another one: Harilyn35's table is identical to the table Filologo2 added in a wall of text on the talk page.
Both accounts also have a habit of unattributed copying within Wikipedia as well, but the relentless POV pushing on Spanish history is the main giveaway. Nblund talk 17:25, 18 October 2019 (UTC)

- Just adding that I noticed the same connection. Nblund's diffs show the behavioral connection, but the general similarity in editing pattern is obvious just by glancing at the accounts' contributions. Also Harlyn35 stated "Rv good faith edits" in an edit summary as a five-day-old account, and cited OWN as a two-week-old account. Hrodvarsson (talk) 02:28, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- I'll also add that I noticed the connection pretty early based on my own interactions with Filologo2 months ago, which can be observed in the archived talk page.--C.J. Griffin (talk) 04:04, 7 October 2019 (UTC)

edit- I did not run a check here because all but one of the accounts is stale, but there's enough evidence here to block all of the accounts as suspected socks. There's an additional tell by way of centralauth which I'm mentioning here as a reminder to myself. All Blocked and tagged. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 21:09, 20 October 2019 (UTC)

The main account has a lengthy history of edit warring in pages related to Spanish history. Ivanvector blocked this block-evading Madrid based IP on November 4 and semi-protected Genocide of Indigenous peoples because of persistent sockpuppetry.
- Khamisilasadis was created a day after the semi-protection, and promptly began warring over the same content as soon as the account reached autoconfirmed status. Basically all of the edits coming from this account are warring to stop the removal of stuff that Harilyn35. One particularly telling example is the removing of this statement about Junipero Serra, which is a long-standing obsession for previous socks. See the same removals from: Harlyn35, Filologo2 and Negin1 and 83.41.122.35
- The IP user is another Madrid-based IP that has been warring to revert striking of talk page edits from prior socks.
I can point to more diffs if needed, but I don't think there's really even much of an effort to conceal the socking here, so I'm keeping it brief. Nblund talk 21:20, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
