Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/JarlaxleArtemis 2/Evidence

Anyone, whether directly involved or not, may add evidence to this page. Please make a header for your evidence and sign your comments with your name.

When placing evidence here, please be considerate of the arbitrators and be concise. Long, rambling, or stream-of-conciousness rants are not helpful.

As such, it is extremely important that you use the prescribed format. Submitted evidence should include a link to the actual page diff; links to the page itself are not sufficient. For example, to cite the edit by Mennonot to the article Anomalous phenomenon adding a link to Hundredth Monkey use this form: [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Anomalous_phenomenon&diff=5587219&oldid=5584644] [1].

This page is not for general discussion - for that, see talk page.

Please make a section for your evidence and add evidence only in your own section. Please limit your evidence to a maximum 1000 words and 100 diffs, a much shorter, concise presentation is more likely to be effective. Please focus on the issues raised in the complaint and answer and on diffs which illustrate behavior which relates to the issues.

If you disagree with some evidence you see here, please cite the evidence in your own section and provide counter-evidence, or an explanation of why the evidence is misleading. Do not edit within the evidence section of any other user.

Be aware that the Arbitrators may at times rework this page to try to make it more coherent. If you are a participant in the case or a third party, please don't try to refactor the page, let the Arbitrators do it. If you object to evidence which is inserted by other participants or third parties please cite the evidence and voice your objections within your own section of the page. It is especially important to not remove evidence presented by others. If something is put in the wrong place, please leave it for the arbitrators to move.

Evidence presented by Psychonaut

edit

Please refer to my opening statement for the evidence I have compiled. —Psychonaut 29 June 2005 15:57 (UTC)

I reproduce the statement here with my annotations in red.

  • The edits on my user page concerning my high school teacher
    • She does not use Wikipedia. Irrelevant. He posted her e-mail address and encouraged others to harass her.
    • It is my own user page! I was under the impression that one could put anything one wants on their own user page. I believe he is lying here. He has been warned several times before (including in the last RfA) about inappropriate content on his user page.
  • Obscenities
    • I did not know that Wikipedia was a censored place. Again, JarlaxleArtemis seems to have a short memory. He has been warned before (including in the last RfA) about his personal attacks.
    • They are just words.
    • They weren't even directed at anyone. [2] Another blatant lie. The very first sentence of the edit he links to is directed specifically at User:Ann Heneghan.
    • I didn't vandalize User talk:Ann Heneghan. I left her a message expressing my opinion. Someone besides her removed it, so I put it back because I wanted her to see it. [3] I see no expression of opinion in this edit; it seems like it's a blatant attempt to deface a user page with gratuitous swearing. Even giving him the benefit of the doubt, I think he could have chosen a less confrontational and sensational way of expressing his "opinion".
  • Misinterpreted edit summary
    • I didn't call anyone an idiot. I merely said "revert idiocy." In other words, I called his edit idiotic, not him. [4] Splitting hairs. Regardless of whether JarlaxleArtemis meant to call the user or his actions idiotic, the statement is still a personal attack.
  • Even if JarlaxleArtemis is acquitted of wrongdoing in the above incidents, please note that they are only three in a much longer list presented in my opening statement and elsewhere on this evidence page.
  • Images
    • I did provide sources to those images. [5] [6] Providing the source of the images is not an issue here; proving fair use or a free license is. Simply citing the source does not grant Wikipedia a license to use an image. JarlaxleArtemis has been instructed before (previous RfA) to familiarize himself with Wikipedia's copyright policies. Evidently he has not done so.
  • Wikipedia:What the fuck
    • I created this redirect to Wikipedia:Help desk because I had just seen an admin create a redirect to Wikipedia:Help desk titled Wtf! or something similar. JarlaxleArtemis is trying to use someone else's questionable behaviour to justify his own.
  • "Speedying" material
    • Contained no information whatsoever about the subject [7] So mark it as a stub.
    • Was a copy of another article [8] If this were true, he should have done a merge. Instead, he tried to speedy with the {{nonsense}} tag.
    • Initially marked as a "speedy." A few minutes later, I noticed my mistake and stated the reason for the "speedy" on Talk:Do You Know . I also tried to clean up the article as retribution after that. [9] JarlaxleArtemis did not notice and correct his mistake; User:Hoary did.
    • Contained a short list of dead links. It wasn't encyclopedic, so I marked it as a "speedy." [10] So mark it as a stub. JarlaxleArtemis should know by now that we have plenty of articles on music albums.
    • Just a list. Didn't explain what the heck the list was about, so I marked it as a "speedy." [11] Ditto.
    • User page was created by an anon, so I marked it as a "speedy." [12] Kelly Martin later told me to assume good faith. I agreed with her and realized that I had erred. [13]
    • Marked the redirect page Gaels as a "speedy" because there was no need for it. Instead of inserting [[Gaels]] as a link, one can instead just as easily insert [[Gael]]s. Redirects are for user searches, not just article links.
  • The "deleting relevant material from Wikipedia" part of the accusation was actually pretty minor anyway. I'm more concerned about JarlaxleArtemis's pattern of personal attacks and the messes he creates for other users and admins by changing image copyright tags and/or uploading images with missing or incorrect tags.
  • Michael Jackson
    • Claims that Michael Jackson is a pedophile are widely supported and widely publicized. One merely has to read the newspaper and watch the news on television. If they're so widely supported, he should have been able to provide a cite.
  • "Crapflooding" various anon's talk pages
    • Was a mistake with my browser or something like that. I have already explained this on User talk:JarlaxleArtemis#whats up with the user warning-flooding?. I question the explanation on this talk page. I can see someone accidentally hitting the submit button a couple times, or even several times if the server doesn't seem to be responding, but over a hundred??
  • Sandbox and Linuxbeak
    • I didn't know that the "code" I added to the Sandbox would exploit browser vulnerabilities and cause them to lock up or crash. Heck, I didn't even add a code! I added a bunch of funny cartoon images. Disproved by User:Linuxbeak elsewhere on the evidence page.
    • Linuxbeak later blocked me for this edit to the Sandbox. I had no idea that adding 9 5/7 lines of the word "disruptive" to the Sandbox constituted a block.
      • I was outraged because of this unfair block, and "e-mail bombed" him because he deserved it. E-mailing is not part of Wikipedia, so it shouldn't even be included in this unjust case. Jarlaxle June 28, 2005 05:23 (UTC) So JarlaxleArtemis admits to harassing other Wikipedia users. If this is done through e-mail or in person or in some other way outside Wikipedia, does this matter? I think so. I would hate to see valuable contributors such as User:Linuxbeak scared away from Wikipedia because other users are making life difficult for them.

Ongoing personal attacks

edit

The following incidents occurred after this Request for Arbitration was initated but before it was concluded.

  • "Because you are an asshole. And I don't care if that's a fucking personal attack, asshole." [14]
  • Calls anonymous user a "racist vandal" [15]. The user in question was quite obviously a vandal, but nothing in their contributions history suggests that they are racist. (They had replaced images on a number of unrelated pages and templates.)
  • "Like I give a damn, you fucking robot." [16] in response to legitimate action taken against the fifth(!) violation of his temporary injunction.
  • Off-Wikipedia harassment of User:Linuxbeak [17] [18]
  • Mildly profane e-mail message sent to User:Psychonaut through the "E-mail Wikipedia user" function (contact me for a copy if required)
  • "Hi, my name's Linuxbeak, and I'm a fucking cunt" and various other taunting [19]
    • Just a comment: I believe this actually comes from the banned troll MARMOT, and not Jarlaxle. It is completely possible that Jarlaxle pretended to be MARMOT, but an IP check would be required to determine the true originator of this. Linuxbeak | Talk | Desk 21:25, September 8, 2005 (UTC)

Images for deletion

edit

This is to let the Arbitration Committee know that I have gone ahead and started to list some of JarlaxleArtemis's copyvio, duplicate, and superfluous images for deletion. I hope this is OK provided I mention the fact here; if not, let me know and I'll remove the deletion requests pending the end of the investigation. (I assumed there would be logs of any deletions which the arbitrators could examine if necessary.)

Please see the respective entries on Wikipedia:Images_and_media_for_deletion and Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images. —Psychonaut 21:41, 3 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Evidence presented by Kelly Martin

edit

I've run into this editor a few times while doing RC patrol. The following three edits were significant enough for me to feel the need to leave him notes on his talk page. Below are links to my warnings and to his edits which prompted the warnings.

June 22, 2005

edit
  • warned for inappropriate use of the {{nonsense}} tag (I can't find the edit that prompted me to warn him about inappropriate edit summaries): [20], for [21]

June 20, 2005

edit
  • warned for taunting vandals: [22], for [23].

June 17, 2005

edit
  • warned for marking a user's page for speedy delete inappropriately: [24], for [25].

Various dates

edit

The edits below are other edits which I now deem suspicious which I found while documenting the above edits.

  • [26] (mild personal attack)
  • [27] (inappropriate language)
  • [28] (technically harmful edit; note that attempting to view this edit crashes the differencing engine)
  • [29] (insertion of a large amount of nonsense into a user talk page)
  • [30] (insertion of a large amount of nonsense into a user talk page)

Evidence presented by Linuxbeak

edit

The purpose of this page is to chronologically document the edits of User:JarlaxleArtemis that have been questionable and relevent to this Arbitration case.

Disclaimer

edit

This is by no means a complete list. Jarlaxle has so many offenses that it would be a waste of time trying to come up with a exhaustive list. If I get the strength to do more posting, I will, but this list is rather incomplete at best.

How is typing "disruptive" a few times in the Sandbox disruptive? What does it disrupt? No one.

Of all the people affected by JarlaxleArtemis, I really wasn't affected all that much. In summary, he made a poorly-thought-out reversion to the article Darth Vader (with an abusive edit summary) that I reverted. This is no big deal, as at the time, I spent most of my time on Wikipedia reverting poorly-thought-out edits to that article. I was at the time (and still am) trying to get it to featured article status.

A little upset by his abusive edit summary and wanting to remind him that he is dealing with other people on Wikipedia, I went ahead and left a message on his talk page. He apparently didn't get the point.

    • User reverted one of my good-faith edits to the article Darth Vader. [32]. His edit summary read "revert idiocy", but it was his edit in my opinion that was the more destructive, as it pretty much screwed up the inherent spoiler issue with that page (as you can see).
  • 20:36, 8 June 2005
    • I replied on his talk page, calling him on his lack of tactfulness and explaining the rationale behind my "idiotic" edit. My intent was to remind him that the other editors on Wikipedia are people too, so maybe if he got a real live response from one he might get the point. [33]

    • Sadly, he didn't get the point, and responded abusively to me. [34]
  • 17:04, 9 June 2005
    • Minor edit to abusive response. [35]

I would merely like to point out the following message that the user sent me:

edit
  • [36] When I asked the user to explain this message at [37], I never recieved a reply. I believe that it was in response to my warning [38], which was in response to the users three removals (and my restorations) of the ifd tag to [Image:Moon.gif] ([39], [40], and [41].)
