We need all the information the wizard asks for to be able to upload the image, however the image looks like it is a professional photo and because of that is most probably copyrighted. 99% of the time we are unable to upload copyrighted images to Wikipedia. If you have proof that the image isn't copyrighted please edit this request and add that in. Wow, Wikipedia has really gotten obstructionist. It used to be a nice place to contribute to, but the deletionists and haters are ruining it. That is an image I released into the public domain. I took it personally last Wednesday. Yet again I try to contribute only to have my contribution blocked or deleted. I think this makes a dozen times in a row now. Hi. I'm sorry if you took my comment the wrong way. To upload an image to Wikipedia it generally must be a 'free' image and it sounds like yours would be, however, to be able to upload it I need a link to a page that states that the image has been released into public domain. Something like "I, the copyright holder of this work, hereby release it into the public domain. This applies worldwide." would work. Although, it might be easier if you upload the image to Flickr (if you don't have an account you can create one for free), mark the image with a license that would be acceptable on Wikipedia (public domain works), then point me to the link here. Comment: The website clearly says copyright, so your claim of "public domain" seems invalid (if you are the creator, you can change what the website says to make it clear this image is released into the public domain). I am unsure as to what exactly I am to be providing. Sorry. The game (which can be downloaded from http://www.verge-rpg.com/files/detail.php?id=348) starts with a statement close to "(C) 2001 Guillherme S. Towes. All rights reserved.". Should that cover it?

I can't find a web URL to the copyright status, however. Regardless, the author has granted permission to freely display the image on wikipedia. Failing that, I believe that fair use applies.

Hi, sorry I worded my first question poorly. Can you provide a link where Verge have said that the image is under an appropriate license to be used on Wikipedia? The link has to say that the image has been released under an appropriate license for use on Wikipedia (Public domain, Creative Commons Attribution, Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike, for example), not just that it can be used on Wikipedia. According to the Flickr page, the license information is not PD, but actually CC by-nc-sa 2.0. The "NC" is important because it means no-commercial. On wikipedia, we allow for commercial use of our content, therefore the current license of that image is not comptable with wikipedia. If you are the owner of that Flickr account, and you want the image to be used on wikipedia (even for commercial purposes) please log into your flickr account and change the license to either CC-SA or CC-BY-SA (the only two available licenses which are compatable with wikipedia.) If you want to release the image into the public domain, you could also add a note stating that on the flickr image page as well. I do not know how to comment directly to your comments, so I apologize for this indirect communication. This is in reference to the pictures I am trying to upload, JetBlue 292 Nose Wheel Pictures. My coworker took these, we work in a parts searching and supplying company to many of the worlds large airlines. These were pics obtained during the incident by my coworker who was on the scene almost immediately. They are not copyrighted in any way. Please let me know how to proceed. If they can not be uploaded, it is not the end of the world, I was just trying to provide some pics for more details.

Also, I saw that you had a concern regarding my username. That is the username I use for everything, and it is the name of my website, so I can see your view of the conflict of interest. I am happy to change it, there is no hidden agenda, but I did not want to do it right now or else or communications might get lost between the two names.

Hi there. Unfortunately, there needs to be some way that we can verify that there is no copyright on these pictures. Since you have the rights to these images, this should be very easy. There are a couple of ways you can release your images' copyright. One way is to simply place a note somewhere on your website that releases these particular images in the public domain (or, if you'd rather, some other license listed here), then linking to that page here. Another way is to use a system involving emailing the volunteers at the Commons releasing your pictures into the public domain or other free licesnse, called OTRS. If you'd rather do this, see this page. However, I think the first method is a bit easier. I hope I've helped; let me know if you have any questions. You were on the right track. It does not appear that right off the bat flickr has any appropriate images. But you could contact someone on flickr and ask if they wouldn't mind changing the license of their photo so that it could be used here on Wikipedia. Or you could follow WP:COPYREQ and contact WWE or her publicist and see if they wouldn't mind donating a picture. Finally, you could post a request at Wikipedia:Requested pictures or contact the Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling and see if anyone could take a photo. Yes, if you can get the license-holder of that image to either a) write somewhere on her website that s/he licenses the picture under a free license or b) get that person to email you stating explicitly that s/he will release the image under a free license then the image can be uploaded (see this page). Joe Humphreys was born in 1872 and started his announcing career in 1888, at age 18. I believe this photo, as stated in the image description ("He became a well-known and popular ring announcer of the early 1900s"), was taken sometime around the turn of the century. Humphreys was 51 years old in 1923, and the image is clearly that of a much younger man. I think a modest estimate at perhaps between 30-45 is likely and supports the claim that the photo was taken during the early 1900s. Compared to a photo taken in the 1930s, while in his early 60s, there's a noticable difference in appearance. 71.184.42.242 (talk) 05:29, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's highly doutful that this photo, which was taken the height of his popularity, would remain unpublished for 20+ years especialy if the photo in question at at least a century old. According to the Flickr page, the license information is not PD, but actually all rights reserved/copyrighted. If you are the owner of that Flickr account, and you want the image to be used on wikipedia, please log into your flickr account and change the license to either CC-SA or CC-BY-SA (the only two available licenses which are compatable with wikipedia.) If you want to release the image into the public domain, you could also add a note stating that on the flickr image page as well. Sorry if this is a bit complicated. Comment: That article already has an image of a movie poster. Are you suggesting replacing the existing image or supplementing it? We have fairly strict criteria for non-free content WP:NFC, and I'm not sure having two images that serve the same basic purpose would be appropriate. Could you write a fair use rationale for that image? Furthermore, the proposed image is not the normal aspect ratio of movie posters (where the existing image is). Hi Andrew, thanks for your response. This is the theatrical release poster, intended to replace the festival poster (which is not intended for promotional use) that is currently on the page. I will supply a copy of the image with the correct aspect ratio later today, once the designer has prepared it. As for the fair use rationale: we're not entirely sure about the wording, but use of the image is authorized in promotional context, provided that it is not distorted or defaced. Comment: On wikipedia, people cannot simply supply images for the purpose of a single article use. We have a more liberal license, so that if someone wants to donate an image, they need to license it under a compatible free license (see WP:ICT/FL). See WP:PERMISSION for more details. Basically, what needs to happen is that the copyright holder of the image would need to send a declaration into our WP:OTRS system for confirmation, assuming the copyright holder wants to release these images under a free license. WP:CONSENT has more information on that process and an example declaration, and WP:PHOTOSUB deals specifically with this situation. As it stands, it does not appear that you are the copyright holder of these images, and there is no evidence that they are licensed under a license that is compatible with wikipedia, so they would need to follow our non-free content guidelines (WP:NFC... noting that NFCC #1 basically prohibits non-free images of living people). Yeah, I apologize that this can be quite confusing and is a lot of information. The short of it is that we just need evidence that these images are licensed freely before we can accept them (see WP:PHOTOSUB).-Andrew c ^[talk] 15:54, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, that image is also tagged with "NC" and "ND", meaning no commercial use and no derivative use. On wikipedia, the only CC licenses acceptable are CC-BY and CC-SA-BY because we allow for both the things that this specific image restricts. Perhaps you could contact the flickr user and ask them to consider donating the image to wikipedia, and see if they won't change the license to one that is compatible with ours.
