SR Macedonia
editPlease be so kind as to leave Yugoslavia in place. It affects not only Macedonian citizens but people from the other former republics too. Likewise, we are using other historical names too such as Republic of Venice, Austro-Hungary, Kingdom of Serbia; Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes; Ottoman Empire etc. I know that in the UK, some are listed as being born in England or Wales, but there are many also said to be born in the UK. I may also stress that if you wish to add United Kingdom to these British-based articles, I doubt anyone will revert it. Thank you. Evlekis 09:57, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Music of Macedonia
editI have switched back the revert you made against me regarding Hip Hop being popular. The fact of the matter is that Hip Hop is largely unpopular, I am not talking about the so-called "ganster" nonsense from America; I'll give that scene its due, that does have a relative amount of popularity in Macedonia, just as it does in most of the world. I am talking about Macedonian language hip-hop. I know a lot of young Macedonians, I have many as relatives, such as my nephews. They are big on this American crap, but the notion of Macedonian or Serbian/Croatian-language Hip-Hop is one big joke. The whole reason that they listen to Hip-Hop in the first place is that it is symbolic of defiance; rejection of state and custom. By playing repetative attempts at a melody set against distorted noise with an irritating voice talking/shouting in poor rhythmn particularly in American English is sure to irritate the older family members, as well as give themselves an outward image of being "modern" and "west-orientated". The last thing they care for is local language Hip-Hop which goes against the grain of everything its listeners stand for. This is the reason that whilst thousands of young Macedonians can name your 2007 Rap music mongers, far fewer know their Macedonian counterparts. Localise Hip-Hop, and it becomes a Macedonian institution, and will be expected to be performed at the festivals in small part, where people also wear traditional costume and play ethno-folk; not exactly what hip-hoppers consider a great occasion. And just incase you are thinking of challenging this statement, I urge you to read the remainder of the same paragraph which I havn't touched. It goes on to state that the scene is underground. Nothing which is underground can be widely popular; that is the reason that it is a subculture in the first place! For all its efforts, nothing can stay obscure indefinitely. We've had Maceodnian rap/hiphop since the new republic was declared. If it were widely popular, you should be able to name someone whose name is as well known as Goran Pandev - known even to non-enthusiasts of football. So if it is popular, then it isn't "underground", see the Wikipedia entry. Evlekis 15:03, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
