Richard Benjamin Harrison

edit

Hi. Rick never mentioned which grandmother told him this, and even if it's the Old Man's wife, that would be Rick's mother, not his grandmother. Also, it was Rick who expressed skepticism of this, not the Old Man. I reverted the passage, but clarified this with a bit of detail.

I added that material myself after rewatching the episode. The Old Man isn't in the scene. Only Rick and Corey are. Nightscream (talk) 00:41, 15 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Regarding the edits, all I did was correct the passage, because you stated that the idea that the Harrisons descend from Presidents Harrison came from the Old Man's wife, and that the Old Man expressed skepticism about this. The first point is wrong because the Old Man's wife is not Rick's grandmother, but his mother, and we don't even know which grandmother Rick was talking about, his maternal or paternal one. The second point is wrong because it was Rick, not the Old Man, who expressed skepticism at this idea. The Old Man wasn't even in the scene. I explained this above. Do you dispute this?
Regarding the article protection, it was done because of persistent addition of unsourced material and/or vandalism done to the page. Wikipedia's concept of mass participation does not extend to this behavior, and when articles become targets of it, administrators can protect the pages from further edits by anonymous IP editors. Such behavior is completely appropriate, which is why administrators are given that ability in the first place. If you disagree, then in which instances do you understand article protection to be prescribed? Moreover, why should this affect you? You're not an anonymous IP editor, so you can continue to edit the article. If you feel you can improve the passage with better wording (albeit accurate wording), then by all means, Be bold! :-) Nightscream (talk) 00:33, 16 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I found a YouTube video of the scene in question. The entire episode is here, and the issue of the Harrisons' relationship to W.H. Harrison is at the 7:44 mark. Nightscream (talk) 04:21, 3 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hey, Todd! I think I may have figured out the source our prior confusion about the presidential connection. A different episode, "Les is More", reran tonight, and in it, the president mentioned is Benjamin Harrison, and Richard is indeed in that scene with Rick. In the scene, Richard says that they are distantly related to Benjamin Harrison, a point Rick does not dispute one way or the other. Perhaps that was the episode you were thinking of? I added the info from that episode to both Rick and Richard's articles. Nightscream (talk) 02:44, 25 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
