Ruritanian romance
editHi. The information you added was WP:OR, because your sources did not support the idea that LeGuin's setting is Ruritanian. You can't just cite her publications; you need, instead, to cite a critic who says that her stories are Ruritanian. If you can find any such sources, feel free to try again, but please be more concise. All the best! -- Ssilvers (talk) 20:03, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the constructive criticism. And you're right. I've already found a nuanced scholarly essay exploring LeGuin's oscillation between what the author sees as the fantastic nature of Ruritanias as opposed to more naturalistic fictional countries - but stating definitely that Orsinia does fit in the Ruritanian "map" (as well as the naturalistic "map" of the fictional setting in Joyce's "The Dubliners").
- While that part of the article is wordier than the preceding ones, it's not WP:UNDUE WEIGHT. LeGuin's "Orsinia" extends over almost as long a literary corpus than Anthony Hope's original three novels which gave Ruritanian romances their name. loupgarous (talk) 20:04, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for paring my prose down to a level more spare than the preceding edits. I'll try very hard not to numb Softlavender's mind unnecessarily in the future, because frankly, it's not worth what happens afterward. All the best!! loupgarous (talk) 23:14, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for your gracious ending to this dispute. Sometimes on Wikipedia (and the internet generally), misunderstandings happen and people get angry and react hastily. If I may offer one piece of advice for the future, which I hope will make things easier, I would say that when you have something to add to an article, just take a quick look at the whole article and judge how important your new content is in relation to the article as a whole, and try to add something that is proportionate with respect to the topic. For example, if I am editing Abraham Lincoln's article, I wouldn't add two paragraphs about his grandfather, even if I had excellent sources and the information was fascinating -- perhaps it belongs in a different article. Anyhow, thanks again, and happy editing! -- Ssilvers (talk) 02:49, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
- I appreciate your advice. It's well-taken, and I don't dispute a single word of it. And I acknowledged my errors in the ANI board without addressing further valid concerns of my own regarding how WP:Civility was or was not followed. I dropped the stick.
- I humbly request that you withhold further advice that reiterates other points that have already been made several times. I was properly admonished then. Please, just stop. Drop the stick. loupgarous (talk) 17:11, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
