Disambiguation link notification for July 17
Hi. When you recently edited Dorona Alberti, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Rotterdam University (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Good suggestions which are obviously not as controversial as my recommendation. Thank you. Ankh.Morpork 16:41, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

I am trying to upload a new version of File:Krank sample.ogg, which includes a fade in and fade out for the sample. But the current version seemed to not update. I finally checked in another browser, and it must be my cache that is goofed up. If an admin would just delete all the extra copies I uploaded, and leave 14:44, 21 July 2012 (UTC) (the second version) as the only file, that would be excellent. Thanks. —Torchiest talkedits 14:54, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

Self-revert?
Why did you self-revert? Ryan Vesey Review me! 22:28, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- I saw the edit summary in my watchlist, and it looked obnoxious, so I reverted. But the text that appeared in the reversion summary made it look more like a friendly chat for a second, so I undid. Then I went back to your talk page and read the whole thing, and it looked not-so-friendly again, but I figured I'd meddled enough already and left it alone. Plus, I saw you were taking your own steps to handle the situation. Sorry about that. —Torchiest talkedits 22:32, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- I'm just waiting on oversight, I've decided not to revert anything myself. Ryan Vesey Review me! 22:34, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

CE of the month
Hiya. Will there be any rule on earliest start date of submitted copy edits? The reason I ask is that I'd like to update the ombox to remind people both that the drive is coming to an end and to prepare themselves for the August contest, and that might affect the timing and wording. Best, --Stfg (talk) 19:42, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
- Yes. My idea was to limit it to just copy editing done in August itself, to spur new activity rather than dredging up older work. Does that seem okay to you? The nice thing about this is that there's not a lot of overhead as with the monthly drives, so we can always change the rules for future contests without much trouble. —Torchiest talkedits 19:46, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. Yes, definitely OK, and as you say, we have flexibility. It might be a good idea to state that rule on the contest page, do you think? I'll do something with the ombox tomorrow. --Stfg (talk) 20:38, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
- Looks good on the contest pages. The ombox isn't forgotten, but I decided to wait till nearer the time as that might have better impact. --Stfg (talk) 12:57, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

GOCE July drive wrap-up
Guild of Copy Editors July 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up
Participation: Out of 45 people who signed up this drive, 31 have copy-edited at least one article. Lfstevens continues to carry most of the weight, having edited 360 articles and over a quarter of a million words already. Thanks to all who have participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, will be available early in August here. Progress report: We are once again very close to achieving in our primary goal—removing the oldest three months from the backlog. Only 35 such articles remain at press time. The total backlog currently sits at under 2400 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We are just two articles away from completing all requests made before July 2012 (both are in progress). Copy Edit of the Month: Starting in August, you'll be able to submit your best copy-editing work for palaver, praise, and prizes. See here for details. – Your drive coordinators: Stfg, Allens, and Torchiest. To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list. Gen P-Orridge
Hey there, it's great to hear that you are doing some work on the Gen page; one day I must get around to continuing the work that I started over there. Anyway, in response to your question, the footnote should be to an interview that Gen gave: Abrahamsson, Carl (2011 [1989]). "An Interview with Genesis P-Orridge". The Fenris Wolf I–3 (Stockholm: Edda): pp. 32–50. ISBN 978-9197953412. Best. Midnightblueowl (talk) 17:29, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi Torchiest. Thanks very much for keeping an eye on the drive and doing the daily updates as well as the checking work you did and the newletter you created. It was all greatly appreciated. Cheers, --Stfg (talk) 09:45, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
- No problem. I'm not sure what our procedure is for calculating awards and all though. Didn't Allens have some code he was going to run that would compile all the information for us? —Torchiest talkedits 14:17, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, he does. He's been away on a teaching assignmnet -- summer course covering 15 weeks' learning in 5 weeks -- and I don't know exactly when he'll be back on line, but I've left a message asking him to do it. It's worth waiting for, as the program generates much more accurate output that a human bean could do manually. --Stfg (talk) 15:35, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

DYK for Missing Foundation
On 4 August 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Missing Foundation, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that anarchist industrial music group Missing Foundation helped instigate the Tompkins Square Park Riot in August 1988? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Missing Foundation. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Hey! So I noticed in WP:MOSALBUM#Personnel that production/technical credits should follow the same format as personnel credits (ie. Name – production), as opposed to "Producer – Name". I was going to go ahead and make this change to the various KMFDM album articles in the next day or two (when I have some time to do them all at once), but before I did that I wanted to let you know, to avoid any warring between us, etc. (ETA: Forgot to log in!) MrMoustacheMM (talk) 16:24, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, that's fine. I'm not sure why I started doing it that way. For some reason, I thought I'd seen it done like that on another good or featured article somewhere. But no problem; go for it. —Torchiest talkedits 16:27, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

Great minds (2)
Funny thing. The fix you just did on Allen's talk page, I did the same one at the same time (edit summary was "fmt"). It appeared to accept the edit without showing an edit conflict, but only yours shows in the history. Must've been clever enough to see we were doing the same thing, I suppose. Not bad! --Stfg (talk) 17:18, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
- Nice! I wonder if it didn't detect an edit conflict because your edit didn't technically conflict the just saved version. —Torchiest talkedits 17:20, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
