Akron again

Just to let you know I reverted 33 edits to the Akron, Ohio article back to your last revision (plus removed the semi-protection tag as it had already been removed by the bot). It seems much of what was added was the same info that had been previously been removed either exactly the same or just reworded (like the list "firsts in Akron" was written out as a paragraph list rather than a bulleted list). Ya. It looks suspicious to me too. Thanks for the reversion, it's hard to AGF with an anon that edits the article that crazily for such a short period. Most of it was unreffed and didn't follow the general style anyways. There's more I want to hack (pretty much anything unreferenced) in the next couple minutes too. I just went ahead and removed the entire section on the KKK in Akron as I read it again and realized it wasn't that important to the article as a whole and was largely tangential. Nothing notable occurred as a result of that outside of some local politics. Hello, just so you know, I've moved this page to User:Stepshep/Akron, Ohio. Pages in the article namespace can't have subpages, so your "sandbox" was an actual article for about a month. That doesn't sound right for some reason. It's utilizing the same purpose of a /Temp subpage which are allowed to cleanup articles. Composers bot run (continued!)

I've now checked about 50 of the remaining 600-odd Category:Unassessed Composers articles and I've found that almost all of them have been mis-assessed by the Biography Project - or that the assessment is completely out of date.

I'm wondering if we can continue the bot run to mark Category:Unassessed Composers articles as Start class, specifically ignoring Biography Project assessments? Wikipedia: The Missing Manual

First, I'm glad to see the edits you've done so far to improve the wiki version of the book.

Second, thanks for the suggestion about {{Wikipedia-screenshot}}. I actually uploaded an image using that template, then asked about it and three other early uploads here. Unfortunately, the response was more than 36 hours (with the same suggestion as yours, as a matter of fact), and I'd uploaded all but a dozen or so images by that time. And at this point I don't want to go back and manually make that change. (If it has to be done, I'll ask for help at WP:BOTREQ.)

Third, regarding the figures/screenshots that ended up (improperly) with Wikimedia Foundation logos, I'm surprised that I missed those - I was certainly trying to avoid the globe in the upper left corner of Wikipedia pages (though not fully successful even at that). Two of the seven are not actually used in the Help pages are can be deleted; for the other five, the solution is probably for me to take the tiff images I have, modify them, and then upload them as replacements in png format. I'm planning to start on that.

Fourth, regarding your offer of doing an imagemap, I appreciate that, but I'm not planning to add any functionality to the wiki version of the book; rather, this is a sort of experiment as to what other editors want to do with the book. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 16:44, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

I'm actually pretty sure that the images with logos are fine to use on Foundation servers, I believe it's more of a note for people from other sites that want to use the image; but I'm not a lawyer by any means. When you get a chance, you may want to check the latest images added to Kent State University Stark Campus. I checked them and didn't see any copyright notices from KSU, but I just want to make sure. Thanks!

Also, I noticed you removed the reference to Jeff Timmons from the Kent, Ohio article the other day citing him as being from Canton. While that is definitely true, he was properly placed in the section (by another user) in the list of people who had graduated from or attended Kent State, which Jeff Timmons did for at least a year. I was wondering if you had some time to look at something for me. I created a stub of Werner Company Building, and have more hidden content in the article. I can't figure out if the news article I found (online version) is talking about the big red buidling (Picture), or if it's even registered. When it mentions a printing plant that was part of an 11 building complex I'm not sure if I have the right thing. Do you have any idea is I'm on the right track? Curious

I'm curious why you basically reverted most of my edits on Kent State University Stark Campus, particularly the Almuni section. The KSU Alumni site identifies the chapter as the "Kent State University Stark County Alumni Chapter" and makes no reference of Kent State Stark having its own alumni chapter separate from KSU's. In other words there is the Kent State University Alumni Association which includes all campuses and has chapters in various locations (like Stark County). I also removed the many of the entries from the alumni list that did not have articles of their own and were not notable outside of limited local notability. --JonRidinger (talk) 22:48, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

I was going off of WP:REFPUN where it states that the norm is for the ref to be after punctuation marks. Hi there, I see you've added a reference list at the bottom of the article. That's a great start. What I'd recommend is adding footnotes throughout the article, preferably using citation templates (though these aren't necessary). You might want to categorize the article under Category:Lawsuits (it is a lawsuit right?) and one of more of the subcats of Category:United States law if any apply. WikiProject Law might have someone who know about the area more than me help you. Also, what infobox template did you use for your article? I usually don't see infobox text in the article unless it's a mistake. Finally, {{cite book}} should work for your one reference, I'm not sure how to cite a case#. Jim Brickman Start-Class article

Hi! I'm relatively new to this. So far I've created a very easy article and have tried to update a few articles by adding references where there are none. I figured that any work I do in such articles would have to be an improvement. So, I put in quite a bit of time trying to improve the Jim Brickman article. Then, along comes your ShepBot that rates it Start-Class on the Project's quality scale. I was wondering what I would need to do for it to move up to, say, B-Class. Although maybe my lot in life is to focus on articles in line for deletion and just add some references so they get to Start-Class. Any feedback welcome. Hi there, I hope you didn't take offense that the assessment happened. It was requested by the Composer's project to auto-assess Start-class articles if there were no conflicting assessments. For the project I work with, Ohio, I would assess the article as C-Class based on WP:OH/A. All projects are different though, for instance Composer's doesn't use C-Class for their own reasons; so ther B-Class restrictions might not be as tight as Ohio's. I made some quick changes, MoSNUM, whitespace, template mods, +pdata, alphabetize categories. The last one doesn't really matter, but I find it makes searching categories easier. Other than that, I'd say it's really up to your discretion of where you see the article to be based on the different projects standards. I ask because in another article, Lee Oskar I'm about 1/2 through improving it. It had no references, not infobox, no contents or organization, etc. So, unlike Jim Brickman where I just added references but otherwise left it alone, with Lee Oskar I'm starting to move things around. I assume that's OK. My question is: when is it OK for me to remove or change a banner based on my own work? Or is that never appropriate, and I should just wait (or ask) for someone else to do it? I created {{Portal:Ohio/FAFooter}} which adds the links that we used. All that you need top do is identify that article it should link to. ie {{Portal:Ohio/FAFooter|Cleveland, Ohio}}. I don't remember if we talked about this before or not, do we want to moved the subpages from /Featured to /Selected that way we can also use GAs/good Bs or do we want to keep it Featured Content only? I was wondering if you had some time to look at something for me. I created a stub of Werner Company Building, and have more hidden content in the article. I can't figure out if the news article I found (online version) is talking about the big red buidling (Picture), or if it's even registered. When it mentions a printing plant that was part of an 11 building complex I'm not sure if I have the right thing. Do you have any idea is I'm on the right track? Werner Company Building

As far as I can see in looking at the Flickr photo and reading the article from the Beacon Journal, it appears this is the correct building, but the building was not the actual plant; it is all that remains of the complex which included the plant. The article here states it was the office building, built in 1897. On the Flickr page, a poster stated: "According to some photos I found on the web, It was once the union hall for the Werner Company. The photo is dated 1978. I'm sure it has a history before that, and it would be interesting to know for what purpose it was originally built, probably in the mid to late 19th Century." I think the only thing you need to change on the Wikipedia article is that is served as the office of the 11-building complex which printed...etc. The building is on the National Register from what I can see. --JonRidinger (talk) 03:41, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Betsy Boze

I tried looking myself when I saw that update and found nothing, which leads me to believe that it was updated by either herself or an employee (especially since it was dated today). Many of the edits to her page and the Kent State University Stark Campus page have been made by her or by people who are obvious employees, which is why certain editors were so adamant about not having the full title "Kent State University Stark Campus" in the article even though it is the title and full official name (she even e-mailed me directly about that and some other issues) and have been upset about the KSU template being in the KSU-Stark and Betsy Boze articles. --JonRidinger (talk) 02:30, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

That is because most people are reserved to the fact that the images are going to be removed one way or another, so it isn't worth fighting. User:A Man In Black and User:Betacommand were on the forefront of removing all the image histories from pages. They stopped at nothing to remove them and any concern raised was shot down. The Pepsi logo is a pretty easy logo to put into words. What worries me is trying to discribe the ol' Westinghouse "Anklepants" KDKA-TV logo. That one is a little more tricky. Akron article...again

I removed and moved several pictures, but your friend and mine cited "errors" (no details of course) so has reverted them twice. I don't want to risk a 3RR, so just be aware of it. The article may need to be protected again as virtually any edits to get it in line with policy are almost instantly reverted and more and more cruft is being added. I just got the new signpost, and I noticed that you said it was still under design. Socks

I blocked the Sleepydre socks that weren't already blocked except for two: the IP address and the sleeper (no contribs) - I am watching both. I can semi-protect the Akron article if you think that would help or if there is any sign of more suspected socks. Sure I could help. What exactly did you have in mind? I think it definitely should be included since it has affected her career, but am unsure where to place it as the article reads much more like a promotional biography than an article (It would surprise me if she had a KSU employee write or edit it). I personally find the story somewhat hillarious and ironic as she actually e-mailed me a few months ago about the Kent State Stark Wikipedia article and would periodically edit it and her own article.

It was direct to everyone who instantly jumped all over the project without even giving it a chance to notify the respective parties. It's directed to everyone who feels that a page can't last on Wikipedia for more than a week because they disagree with the name of the page. It's directed at anyone who thinks that the project shouldn't be given the chance to actually discuss how to make some changes that were discussed on IRC. Actually, even in American English it is known to derive from a highly offensive British English phrase, and, this is not American English wikipedia, but rather en.wiki, so using a phrase as over the top offensive as this one is grossly inappropriate.
