Vandalism?
editCould you explain this one?
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=500_home_run_club&diff=377218321&oldid=377212430
It seems pretty mean to remove the work I did and call me a vandal. I'm trying to make a good-faith effort to add more detail, and everything is sourced properly. The only reason this stuff was removed in the past was because it was partially unsourced. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.180.193.21 (talk) 15:13, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
You reply that the table was "still heavily unsourced" -- what part was unsourced? Nearly every cell in the table linked to a box score or other outside citation. --67.180.193.21 (talk) 02:01, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

editTo quote Batman, "That's not what I wanted to hear", but at the same time I kinda knew I was gonna get this message. This is gonna be a hard task for me, but I'll try, don't guarantee anything. -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 21:03, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
- Hopefully that's done soon; I just checked the topic retention notes, this should be at FLC basically by the end of the month, and season 5 needs to be supplementally nominated. RBI champions
editYou undid my renaming of List of Major League Baseball runs batted in champions to List of Major League Baseball runs-batted-in champions, saying, "They aren't called 'runs-batted-in', this list shouldn't be." I believe you misunderstood the point of my move. When I first saw the article title, I asked myself, "what the hell does 'batted in champions' mean as a description of 'Major League Baseball runs'?" Of course, I figured it out, but it would be more clear if the compound modifier "runs batted in" were joined with hyphens. Personally, I would prefer "RBI champions", but I suppose that was considered to, um, "inside baseball" [w] for a WP article title... - dcljr (talk) 04:50, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

- Pool B's close second was ThinkBlue (submissions). Awarded the top score for good articles and topics this round, ThinkBlue primarily writes content related to television and film, including 30 Rock.
- The first wildcard was TonyTheTiger (submissions). Awarded the top score for did you knows and valued pictures this round, TonyTheTiger writes on a number of topics, including baseball, American football and Chicago.
- The second wildcard was White Shadows (submissions). Someone who has helped the Cup behind the scenes all year, White Shadows said "I'm still in shock that I made it this far" and writes primarily on Naval warfare, especially U-boats.

We say goodbye to the six who fell at the final hurdle. Geschichte (submissions) only just missed out on a place in the final eight. Resolute (submissions) was not far behind. Candlewicke (submissions) was awarded top points for in the news this round. Gary King (submissions) contributed a variety of did you know articles. Suomi Finland 2009 (submissions) said "I'm surprised to have survived so far into the competition", but was extactic to see Finland in the semi-finals. Arsenikk (submissions) did not score this round, but has scored highly in previous rounds. We also say goodbye to Ian Rose (submissions), who withdrew earlier this month after spending six weeks overseas. Anyone interested in this round's results can see them here and here. Thank you to Stone (submissions) for these.
Signups for next year's competition are now open. Planning is ongoing, with a key discussion about judges for next year open. Discussion about how next year's scoring will work is ongoing, and thoughts are more than welcome at Wikipedia talk:WikiCup/Scoring. Also, TonyTheTiger is compiling some information and statistics on the finalists here- the final eight are encouraged to add themselves to the list.
Our final eight will play it out for two months, after which we will know 2010's WikiCup winner, and a variety of prizes will be awarded. Your GA nomination of 1962 National League tie-breaker series
editThe article 1962 National League tie-breaker series you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:1962 National League tie-breaker series for things which need to be addressed. Brad78 (talk) 21:06, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
- Added two further suggestions. Brad78 (talk) 21:43, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
- Everything looks smashing. However, I'll keep it on hold in case you can find any source for the 2001 SFG-LAD game. If you can get verification from somewhere that that was indeed the game that broke the 1962 tiebreaker length, I'd be tempted not to mention the NYY-Red Sox match at all, otherwise you'll have to revisit this page every time the record is broken, when in fact the most important subsequent game in this regards is the one that superceeds its length. Brad78 (talk) 00:31, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
- Just found this game too:
- "The previous American League record was 4:22, which the Yankees and Orioles set on Sept. 5, 1997." [1] Don't know if that helps find a source to say when the 1962 tiebreaker record was beaten. Brad78 (talk) 00:59, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
- Good find and great work. Passed it. Brad78 (talk) 01:37, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
- Been editing without an account for ages. Decided I wanted to actually focus on trying to write GA content so guessed an account was better way to do so. Brad78 (talk) 01:40, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

FLC National Treasures of Japan swords
editHi! Since you already reviewed a List of National Treasures of Japan, I thought you could help out with the following. List of National Treasures of Japan (crafts: swords) is currently a featured list candidate and listed as Nominations urgently needing reviews which means that it might fail unless somebody (you ;-) ) reviews the list. So far it received two "support" votes and one "oppose". All issues raised in the oppose vote have been addressed (the reviewer, "The Rambling Man") just needs to revisit the page). I'd be happy if you could take the time to review the list and leave comments, questions, suggestions and a vote ("support" or "oppose") on the nomination page. Question
editHow does season four look? -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 15:17, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, when I did a read through of the summaries, I tweaked them a bit so that they no be copy-vio, but just to be on the safe side I'll ask for a copy-edit, better that way, right? You deserve credit, I mean you did add some useful info. into the season page, so, besides it might be best not to do it alone. ;) And by that I mean nominate it alone, kinda scary. Yeah, I want to get this over with so I can start work on season five. -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 15:37, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, I guess we should delete the current ones, and rewrite them. Well, I'm glad that info. is available for the new season, cause I just started work for the season premiere, the second episode, and the live episode, so I guess we're set with the first few episodes, and you don't have to break a sweat. ;) Maybe we can get those DYK?'s right this time, you know. -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 16:10, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
- Alright, alright, I got it, don't need to yell at me. :) Yes, I went hardcore, I'm trying to be ready so that we don't have the same problem we're having with season four, so. I'm ready, I'm gonna do what I did with "Emanuelle Goes to Dinosaur Land" and "I Do Do", meaning create it the day after the broadcast, which I believe I did with the two, or the same day but after it has aired, cause I want a DYK? out of it. -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 16:31, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

Hey, is that DYK? I submit for "The Fabian Strategy" a good one? -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 03:39, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- Oooh, that's a good hook. If they have a problem with it I'll change it to that, and you can get credit as you suggested it. So, what do you think of the plot from the episode? I'm only asking if you saw the premiere, if not then don't answer this. -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 05:02, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'm gonna fix the run-on sentences, I promise you that. :) Hey, do you think I should add in Liz and Carol's plot what Liz tells him at the end, you know see you October 14 which so happens to be the live episode or do I not add it at all? I need a second opinion about this. -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 20:40, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi Staxringgold, I noticed you first created the What Is… Cliff Clavin? article. I'm assuming you are a Cheers fan). I am hoping that you will be sympathetic to my cause. I created the The Gift of the Woodi article years ago to cover the Cheers episode in which Woody sings the K-E-L-L-Y song. People who apparently know nothing about Cheers are threatening to delete this article. Please take a look at the article and judge for yourself.Clerks. (talk) 19:15, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

Based on feedback and commentary received during the section-by-section analysis of the current criteria, I have proposed a new version of the criteria here. I would like your input on ways to improve and refine this proposal, in hopes of reaching consensus to implement this change to the criteria. Thank you for your attention. –Grondemar 17:14, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:HappybdMMmp3.ogg
editThanks for uploading or contributing to File:HappybdMMmp3.ogg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:30, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

WikiCup 2010 October newsletter
editThe 2010 WikiCup is over! It has been a long journey, but what has been achieved is impressive: combined, participants have produced over seventy featured articles, over five hundred good articles, over fifty featured lists, over one thousand one hundred "did you know" entries, in addition to various other pieces of recognised content. A full list (which has yet to be updated to reflect the scores in the final round) can be found here. Perhaps more importantly, we have our winner! The 2010 WikiCup champion is Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), with an unbelievable 4220 points in the final round. Second place goes to TonyTheTiger (submissions), with 2260, and third to Casliber (submissions), with 560. Congratulations to our other four finalists – White Shadows (submissions), William S. Saturn (submissions), Staxringold (submissions) and ThinkBlue (submissions). Also, congratulations to Sasata (submissions), who withdrew from the competition with an impressive 2685 points earlier in this round.
Prizes will also be going to those who claimed the most points for different types of content in a single round. It was decided that the prizes would be awarded for those with the highest in a round, rather than overall, so that the finalists did not have an unfair advantage. Winning the featured article prize is Casliber (submissions), for five featured articles in round 4. Winning the good article prize is Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), for eighty-one good articles in round 5. Winning the featured list prize is Staxringold (submissions), for six featured lists in round 1. Winning the picture and sound award is Jujutacular (submissions), for four featured pictures in round 3. Winning the topic award is Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), for forty-seven articles in various good topics in round 5. Winning the "did you know" award is TonyTheTiger (submissions), for over one hundred did you knows is round 5. Finally, winning the in the news award is Candlewicke (submissions), for nineteen articles in the news in round three.
The WikiCup has faced criticism in the last month – hopefully, we will take something positive from it and create a better contest for next year. Like Wikipedia itself, the Cup is a work in progress, and ideas for how it should work are more than welcome on the WikiCup talk page and on the scoring talk page. Also, people are more than welcome to sign up for next year's competition on the signup page. Well done and thank you to everyone involved – the Cup has been a pleasure to run, and we, as judges, have been proud to be a part of it. We hope that next year, however the Cup is working, and whoever is running it, it will be back, stronger and more popular than ever. Until then, goodbye and happy editing! 30 Rock Season 4 and 5
editIn what way were my corrections to the 30 Rock viewing figures vandalism to the previous editor? If an episode was watched by 4.996 million it rounds up to 5.0, does it not? Similarly, 5.66 rounds up to 5.7 - that is correct. I'm getting a little tired of making any edit whatsoever to Wikipedia and some militant member comes and gets rid of it. You submit your work and anyone can change it - why do some users have such a problem with their work being changed? RM-47 (talk) 00:00, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
- No worries, apology accepted. It seems like there's quite a few ratings mistakes in the 30 Rock episode list. A number of them seem to need rounding up correctly. Maybe I'll get around to it, unless somebody else spots it. RM-47 (talk) 00:30, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the message, Staxringold. I've just re-worded the "considered rare" part in the article and added a source. As for .330, that just seemed like a good cutoff, in my personal opinion. There are much fewer players over .340, and a lot between .320 and .330. - PM800 (talk) 14:28, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
- Good point. Although of course, there was no source for .325 either. I also just found this 1959 Baseball Digest article. It's an interesting read, if nothing else. - PM800 (talk) 15:03, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Pete Rose
editHi there,
I know it may seem silly, but I keep editing the caption of Pete Rose on the "3000 hit club" page because mentioning his 4256 hits in the caption is irrelevant because the page isn't about his 4256 hits. Mentioning his 3000th hit is, IMO, very relevant. I'm just trying to provide the best information, as are you, and I just wanted to explain my actions.

Wesley Clark
editHi ! I've translated this article for the french wp and I try to make it a featured one. So I have several questions about your version (I say "your" because you seem to be the main contributor), could you answer to it, please ?
- About topic concerning Bosnia you say that Clark followed Holbrooke on a mountain road before being attacked during the first week. Is that possible to know the exact date of this "first week" ?
- I'm not sure to have well translated this section. Are that the Bosnian fighters who led the wounded man to the hospital ? Why did they do that ?
- The article says "The bombing was noted for its high degree of accuracy, with estimated 495 civilian deaths and 820 wounded reported to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia as a result of the entire campaign" in the Kosovo war section. Why talking about "accuracy" while the ICTY said so many civilians were killed ? You mean that all the targets have been destroyed successfully ?
I'm sorry for language mistakes, if any :). Could you answer me on my french page please ? Thank you ! Petit Djul (talk) 15:24, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- I haven't touched the article or source material in a long time, so I don't know. Though I will say 495 civilian deaths is not "so many" at all, that's an exceedingly low total for a large scale bombing campaign. Staxringold talkcontribs

From the submissions' page, a bot will update the main scoresheet. Our rules have been very slightly updated from last year; the full rules can be found here. Please remember that you can only receive points for content on which you have done significant work in 2011; nominations of work from last year and "drive-by" nominations will not be awarded points. WikiCup 2011 January newsletter
editWe are half way through round one of the WikiCup. Signups are now closed, and we have 129 listed competitors, 64 of whom will make it to round two. Congratulations to The Bushranger (submissions), who, at the time of writing, has a comfortable lead with 228 points, followed by Hurricanehink (submissions), with 144 points. Four others have over 100 points. Congratulations also go to Yellow Evan (submissions), who scored the first points in the competition, claiming for Talk:Hurricane King/GA1, Miyagawa (submissions), who scored the first non-review points in the competition, claiming for Dognapping, and Jarry1250 (submissions) who was the first in the competition to use our new "multiplier" mechanic (explanation), claiming for Grigory Potemkin, a subject covered on numerous Wikipedias. Thanks must also go to Jarry1250 for dealing with all bot work- without you, the competition wouldn't be happening!
A running total of claims can be seen here. However, numerous competitors are yet to score at all- please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. The number of points that will be needed to reach round two is not clear- everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! Hi Stax. Just a quick note to let you know about the GA review here. I found the game summaries to be particularly good reads, so I'll look again tomorrow to ensure that I have scrutinized them objectively, and I always leave the lead until the very end. On the whole it's an excellent article, and I look forward to promoting it soon. Regards, —WFC— 08:25, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
- I have done some re-wording of the "aftermath" section to emphasize further the falling fortunes of the Braves which contrasts with the rising (or continuing) fortunes of the Dodgers. It's possible you'll want better wording. And if you want specifics for their positions in each year, Retrosheet could be a good source,[4] or the MLB site for that matter. I think the closest they came again to first place was 7 games behind, in 1960, and they finished double-digits behind pretty much every year after that. Basically, they were competitive but not strong enough to win the pennant. There was also a resultant decline in attendance which helped fuel the drive to Atlanta. I was expecting to see a list of Braves year-by-year records somewhere, but I didn't find one. Maybe I looked in the wrong places. Anyway, 1959 was a watershed year. It established and legitimized the Dodgers in L.A., and while they didn't know it at the time, the fun was over in Milwaukee after several giddy years. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 13:13, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

editThe official baseball guides had "92,500" as the baseball seating capacity for the Coliseum, which was probably a round number. Capacity could be more like 100,000 for football and other events. However, "over 90,000" is certainly a safe figure. The three World Series crowds ranged between 92,300 and 92,700. The largest-ever regular season crowd was about 78,000, as the seats in the east end of the stadium were too far away, but they were opened up during the World Series, resulting in those huge crowds. The folks in the lower rows of the east-end seating probably got a good view of the right field fence and not much else. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 02:14, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
- I'm worthless at doing the proper citations, so I'll give it to you: Official Baseball Guide 1960, compiled by J.G. Taylor Spink in collaboration with Paul A. Rickart and Clifford Kachline, published by Charles C. Spink & Son, St. Louis, Missouri (The Sporting News Publishing Company). Page 51, Los Angeles Dodgers info: "Park Location: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Figueroa and Exposition Streets. Seating Capacity: 92,500". 1958 and 1959 editions say 94,600. 1961 edition says 92,500, same as 1960. That covers the 4 years the Dodgers were there. Largest crowd ever was 93,103, "Roy Campanella Night" on May 7, 1959. Hard telling where 2,100 seats went between the beginning of 1959 and the beginning of 1960, if they even existed. "Over 90,000" is still a safe bet. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 05:22, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for your comments at this review, I have responded to each of your points, and hoped you could revisit? Harrias talk 12:37, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- Good point with regards to the cap: it's linked now. Nice to get input from outside the cricketing world, it's so easy just to slip jargon in without even realising it! Harrias talk 14:54, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

MLB
editIf anything happens over WikiProject way that deserves my attention, let me know. Otherwise, I've un-watchlisted it. I have too much important work to do writing content to worry about politics.

FYI
editI regret to inform you that one of your featured sounds uploads was delisted. However another of your uploads, the original, unedited version of the same song, was promoted in it's place. Details are at Wikipedia:Featured sound candidates/delist/A Long Way to Tipperary. Sven Manguard Wha? 22:14, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

WikiCup 2011 February newsletter
editSo begins round two of the WikiCup! We now have eight pools, each with eight random contestants. This round will continue until the end of April, when the top two of each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers of those remaining, will make it to round three. Congratulations to The Bushranger (submissions) (first, with 487 points) and Hurricanehink (submissions) (second, with 459), who stormed the first round. Casliber (submissions) finished third with 223. Twelve others finished with over 100 points- well done to all of you! The final standings in round one can be seen here. A mere 8 points were required to reach round two; competition will no doubt be much more fierce this round, so be ready for a challenge! A special thanks goes, again, to Jarry1250 (submissions) for dealing with all bot work. This year's bot, as well as running smoothly, is doing some very helpful things that last year's did not. Also, thanks to Stone (submissions) for some helpful behind-the-scenes updating and number crunching.
Some news for those who are interested- March will see a GAN backlog elimination drive, which you are still free to join. Organised by WikiProject Good articles, the drive aims to minimise the GAN backlog and offers prizes to those who help out. Of course, you may well be able to claim WikiCup points for the articles you review as part of the drive. Also ongoing is the Great Backlog Drive, looking to work on clearing all of the backlogs on Wikipedia; again, incentives are offered, and the spirit of friendly competition is alive, while helping the encyclopedia is the ultimate aim. Though unrelated to the WikiCup, these may well be of interest to some of you.
Just a reminder of the rules; if you have done significant work on content this year and it is promoted in this round, you may claim for it. Also, anything that was promoted after the end of round one but before the beginning of round two may be claimed for in round two. Details of the rules can be found on this page. For those interested in statistics, a running total of claims can be seen here, and a very interesting table of that information (along with the highest scorers in each category) can be seen here. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
