AfC notification: Draft:The Misguided has a new comment

I've left a comment on your Articles for Creation submission, which can be viewed at Draft:The Misguided. Thanks! RangersRus (talk) 21:17, 30 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
The article includes several reliable critical reviews from established film publications:
1. The Hollywood Reporter (Frank Scheck, January 26, 2018) - one of the film industry's primary trade publications
2. Cultured Vultures (Patrick King, January 5, 2018) - established film criticism platform
3. Cinema Crazed (Emilie Black, January 25, 2018) - long-running film review publication
These are not blogs or personal sites, but established film review outlets. Additionally, the film received theatrical distribution through Indie Rights (US) and Umbrella Entertainment (Australia), and premiered at the Lone Star Film Festival. These sources together meet WP:NFILM criteria for notability. Stan1900 (talk) 21:21, 30 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Stan1900: what is your relationship to Shannon Alexander or any of the other persons or companies involved with the films you have been writing about? DMacks (talk) 09:14, 1 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I am working with proper documentation and reliable sources like The Hollywood Reporter review, official festival selections, and legitimate distribution information. All content is based on independent, verifiable sources and maintains a neutral point of view. Happy to make any adjustments needed to meet Wikipedia's standards. Hello Stan1900. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. Paid advocacy on Wikipedia must be disclosed even if you have not specifically been asked to edit Wikipedia. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Stan1900. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Stan1900|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. MrOllie (talk) 21:25, 4 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Dear MrOllie, I want to be completely clear: I am not receiving any compensation, payment, or other benefits for these edits. These contributions are made independently using reliable, published sources to document notable films. I am acting in good faith to improve Wikipedia's coverage of independent cinema and am following all guidelines regarding neutral point of view and verifiable sources. I understand the seriousness of paid editing concerns and assure you this is not the case here. I'm happy to continue working within Wikipedia's guidelines to improve these articles. Stan1900 (talk) 23:49, 4 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Can you explain your connection to Shannon Alexander, then? MrOllie (talk) 00:22, 5 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your question. I want to clarify that while I reached out to Shannon Alexander for source materials and permission to post, I have no personal or professional connection with them. There has been no financial transaction or paid involvement in my contributions.
I have a history of editing articles related to notable figures from Perth, Western Australia on Wikipedia. I’ve followed the careers of Shannon Alexander and Katherine Langford, starting with their collaboration in The Misguided (2017), and continued to follow their work in subsequent projects. I noticed a significant gap in the coverage of Alexander’s transition from Perth’s independent film scene to later New York-based projects like Sex, Love, Misery (2022) and It’s Coming (2023). My goal has been to improve the documentation of this progression using reliable, independent sources.
My sole aim is to ensure these works are accurately represented in accordance with Wikipedia's guidelines on neutrality and verifiability. While I prefer to maintain my privacy as an editor, this does not impact my commitment to these core principles.
I am not receiving any compensation for my contributions. I’m open to further guidance to ensure my edits meet Wikipedia’s standards. Stan1900 (talk) 02:43, 5 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
100% of your editing here has been connected to Shannon Alexander, much of it based on unreliable sources. If you are here to build an encyclopedia, I would suggest you find more diverse subjects to write about, and study the sourcing guidelines carefully. MrOllie (talk) 03:11, 5 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I appreciate the opportunity to clarify my approach.
While much of my editing has indeed focused on Shannon Alexander and related figures, this is because I identified a significant gap in the coverage of their careers, especially regarding their transition from Perth's independent film scene to recent New York-based projects. My goal has always been to fill that gap with well-sourced, verifiable information.
Regarding the concerns about unreliable sources, I want to emphasize that the materials I’ve used are sourced from longstanding, reputable outlets, including well-regarded publications such as The Hollywood Reporter, Los Angeles Times, and Film Threat. I make every effort to ensure the sources are reliable, adhering to Wikipedia’s standards for neutrality and verifiability. Stan1900 (talk) 03:18, 5 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
