Notes: Wikipedia Notability guidelines and archiving

edit

Hi Sdpdude9, thank you for creating UFC 298 and UFC 299 pages. Pls note that for a page to be notable to be included in the main space of Wikipedia, the subject needs to be have significant coverage by independent, reliable sources where by the sources talk about the subject in lenght and in dept for verification. So, add about 5-7 sources when creating a page. The additional sources can be removed one other sources are presented in the page (background info and etc..) User Gsfelipe94 will usually remove the addtional sources and do a clean up of the UFC event page. Secondly, you can archive your talk page instead of remove/black the messages, (all edits in Wikipedia is recorded and also can be found on the history page and other means). It is good idea to archive them so you can find the info easily and also remove the suspicious of why you are trying to remove it instead of archiving them when dispute issues occur where admin/editors will look into your talk page history page/talk page. See Help:Archiving a talk page for instructions or you can copy mine at my talk page just remember to change my user name to yours.

Btw, I can find the the event page of UFC 297, UFC 298, and UFC 299 on UFC event web page as such I remove the info of the associated pages. If you could, pls provide me the linked sources. Be safe and thank you for your contribution. Cassiopeia talk 02:33, 7 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Cassiopeia:Thanks for the advice. I will keep that in mind next time I create a page.
As for the event pages, check the cited sources under the fight card sections. It is the official ufc event page for the cards. I would not add it without citing the official source. Sdpdude9 (talk) 02:43, 7 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the sources. I checked so many times, and I could not find them. Thanks for letting me know. So happy to that we have you as one of the productive and great contributors/editors in Wikipedia MMA community. THANK YOU!. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 02:47, 7 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Cassiopeia: The event page isn’t showing them right now for whatever reason but you can find the pages through the url. I apologize if I was not clear what source I was citing. Thank you for all you do as well, you have taught me a lot and I appreciate it. Sdpdude9 (talk) 02:51, 7 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question on MMA results

edit

Adesanya's loss is considered a rear-naked choke, but Sherdog has "face crank". Which should we put for Wikipedia. UFC officially called it a rear naked choke submission. Marty2Hotty (talk) 08:23, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Marty2Hotty: Initially, I use judgment to determine the method. This is acceptable because live sporting events are marked to be potentially be inaccurate and rapidly changing. However, once sherdog updates their method that is generally what we should use. Sdpdude9 (talk) 17:00, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question on UFC FN pages

edit

Editors update the pages based on the UFC.com events page. On ESPN MMA, https://www.espn.com/mma/fightcenter/_/id/600049122/league/ufc, they added Alice Ardelean vs Melissa Martinez for an upcoming event. Are we allowed to add that to the UFC page and source ESPN MMA? or do we have to wait for an independent report. Marty2Hotty (talk) 22:55, 18 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Marty2Hotty: I believe ESPN is not considered independent and we should wait for a different source. Sdpdude9 (talk) 14:47, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
but editors add bouts on the "Fight card" based on what is on the ufc.com/events page? Marty2Hotty (talk) 14:56, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Marty2Hotty: That is correct. I’m not privy as to why that is, but that is the rule. Sdpdude9 (talk) 17:13, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Is it weird that we can't use social media posts of official accounts for new bouts. I guess it's better if a website publishes the information with a link to the same social media post? Marty2Hotty (talk) 05:19, 21 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
