FPC promotion
edit
FYI, a slightly-modified version of your Cricket Positions diagram has been promoted to featured picture status. Stevage updated your original diagram to address a couple minor issues, and his edit was promoted. You are both credited on the featured version. Congratulations! -- moondigger 14:25, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

India Map
editWell I modified the original significantly. I changed some of the dates b/c they were incorrect & I added original territorial ownership for clarity. As for attribution, I cited it as my own work b/c I wasn't sure how 2 cite an earlier version when I essentially created an new image/file all together. B/c last time I checked, you can't correct an image/map w/o deleting the original file. & any way, I edited it significantly that little of the original information persisted into the updated file {i.e.- some of your dates were incorrect & one of the cities may have been mispelled & the key did not include a listing of all the colonial powers represented on the map}. But any way, sorry if that bothered you. I don't even know if that image is still up any way.
& Bombay should be cited as Portuguese 1st, British second. It was given to Britain by the Portuguese monarch as a wedding gift for the marriage of his daughter to King John of Lancaster {his wife was also the one who introduced tea to England}.
& if there is a way to cite an earlier map already hosted on Wikipedia, then by all means tell me how I can do that.

AfD nomination of Postage stamps and postal history of India/Sandbox
editI have nominated Postage stamps and postal history of India/Sandbox, an article you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Postage stamps and postal history of India/Sandbox. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. -- Suntag (talk) 00:18, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Image:60px WikiIndia 1.png
editA tag has been placed on Image:60px WikiIndia 1.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:60px WikiIndia 1.png|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Attribution Violation
editI've been rather busy for several years now with life... so I didn't notice your message on my board. 1) You make a fuss over nothing. You clearly don't understand what it means to copyright something nor do you understand what it means to significantly alter what someone else created to the point at which they no longer deserve credit. 2) You're too full of yourself and your work that you think that somehow your work/intellectual opinion is the only thing worth being included in article.
With respect to "1)" I could have mentioned that you created something similar which I substantially altered... however, I am by no means required to do so by law. Furthermore, you were completely wrong about dates and locations and flags {and even included the contemporary flags, something you never did}, in other cases b/c you made note of certain changes of flag, but only those which were of convenience to you.
Regarding "2)" I shall expand upon my "1)" note to include the following: under copyright law as I understand it, significant alteration of an image as I did constitutes a new document and something entirely separate from your creation. This is the same as one artist taking a drawing by Picasso, altering it slightly or not at all, but adding that drawing/painting as a subset feature of a larger work of art. For an example of what I mean, see the derivative work "L.H.O.O.Q." by Marcel Duchamp based on the Mona Lisa.
Furthermore, as to the US legal definition of a derivative work: 17 U.S.C. § 101: :A “derivative work” is a work based upon one or more pre-existing works, such as a translation, musical arrangement, dramatization, fictionalization, motion picture version, sound recording, art reproduction, abridgment, condensation, or any other form in which a work may be recast, transformed, or adapted. A work consisting of editorial revisions, annotations, elaborations, or other modifications which, as a whole, represent an original work of authorship, is a “derivative work”.
At the end of the day, I think the only real loser in all of this is the casual Wikipedia user who makes use of your inaccurate map as opposed to my revised one. And an fyi>> I did cite you in my derivative work, but you still marked mine INACCURATELY as a COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT only b/c I removed your map from the "History of India" article. Of course, had Wikipedia made it easier to edit and remove your rudimentary map, I would have done that instead.. but they didn't at the time. Sorry about the wounded ego. --EricSRodrigues154 07:50, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
- Happy holidays to you. The point being raised here a few years old, and is a moot point now that the pirated version had been rightfully discarded from WP a couple of years since. You accuse people of being full of themselves. It is evident, however, from the above what you are full of.
- I would urge you yet again to respect people's effort and work and the licenses associated with them; make required attributions as mentioned, and not to plagiarize; do not 'steal' images from the Internet and upload it to WP - it increases sysops work; and be civil and sober on talk pages.
Request to use your Gujarat District Map in an academic publication
editHi
I'm a scholar who wishes to use your district map of Gujarat in an academic publication. If I need to attribute it to you under the CC license, how would you like me to cite your name? Also from what I can see, you created this map in 2005?
Many thanks

File permission problem with File:Malwa India 1823.png
editThanks for uploading File:Malwa India 1823.png, which you've sourced to cc-nc-sa-2.5. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or

You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. Something goes wrong on the road
editFile:Language travel from India.png there are some errors and possible misinterpretations on this map. This is map is about script, not about language, which is related to language, but most of the (spoken) language here that use indic writing system had no relationship with indian (spoken) languages.
There are few spoken languages super-families :
- Indo-european (spoken) languages in India, at west of China.
- turkish, mongol, korean japanese (or uraloaltaic superfamily), at north, from turky to japan
- Sino-tibetan in the middle (sinitic and tibeto-birman)
- Austronesian in south-east (that come from east of china, near shanghai really long long time ago, and is not related to chinese languages at all.
Well perhaps a day we find a super-giga-family of all those nice languages and a general relationship ???
For the writting :
- korean hangeul could (I feel really probably) come from one mongol writing (phagpsa) used only during (mongolian) Yuan dynasty (~70 years) in china, that comme from tibetan writing, that comme from devargani. sout-east asian writting systems are for sure coming from indic ones.
- All japanese writing and former vietnamese and korean ones come from chinese han writting system, that is independant writting system, no relationship with indic one or arabic one.
- Traditionnal mongolian writing (mongol bitchig/ khalkha syllabic, that has no relationship with phagspa at all) come from uyghur, that come from sogdian (as written in this docuemnt), that probably come from arabian. there is probably some question abuot arabian/brahmi first one after protosinaitic ?, Don't know enough this part, studying this get me there). Manchu & Jurchen come from this traditional mongol writting system too.
- http://www.proel.org/img/alfabetos/mapaorie.gif <= I suppose this map is the start of the erroneous (or at least really confusing) one => http://www.proel.org/img/alfabetos/mapaasia.gif
In the first map :
- simple black arrow are like wind (vector gradiant) maps, of general tendences of displacement of languages.
- Double black bordered arrows are indic writting moves.
- Double dashed arrows are move from non-indic writting (uighour come from arabic (protosinaitic/egyptian/...), chinese is the origin of the second writting spread).
The final red arrow come probably from another student that didn't understood the fist map from other one and need to finish the final document the last day...Popolon (talk) 00:24, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
