First archive

edit

Greetings, fellow Wikipedian, I took the liberty of setting up an archive of your old talk which most people do every couple of months or so. Of course, one of the beauties of this place is that, if you don't like what I've done, you can feel free to revert it or to change it around as you wish. There are also bots that can help with your archiving if you choose to use one of them. I hope this helps. Cheers. — Rgoodermote 19:15, 20 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism and blocking users

edit

You can report people yourself, y'know. Just go to WP:AIV and follow the instructions. I'm going to report this Stunticons IP again, dunno what on Earth it's playing at. Chris Cunningham 09:15, 22 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Im not sure what to do about that IP that you had disucssed with me earlier, but it seems as though it's been temporarily banned. It's hard, though, because the IP address is shared, it isn't always the same person doing the vandalism. Hi, btw :)(Terra Xin (talk) 03:11, 19 November 2007 (UTC))Reply

What was the issue with the reversions? Was the person just removing stuff?--Jab843 (talk) 03:56, 19 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

They were making many changed to Transformers articles that were complete fan fiction. Making up characters, changing what the robots turned into. It was pretty random and usually highly inaccurate. They refused to talk and changed anonymoys IP often. Mathewignash (talk) 11:08, 19 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rank

edit

I'd rather not rehash the whole non-notability and insignificance of rank in the Transformers infobox. It is insignificant, trivial information. Note that User:The Matrix Prime has a history of disruptive editing and ignoring policy/guidelines; his assertion that it belongs is not substantiated by policy. --EEMeltonIV 01:18, 23 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Warnings for vandalism

edit

Hi Mathew, I just wanted to say that you should use the warning templates when you are warning vandals. It's usually more systematic and the language has been hashed out forever. For User:170.215.130.65, I declined to block because he seemed to have stopped after you warned (good job!) and policy is that blocks are for prevention, not punishment. If you catch someone else doing the kind of stuff, post it to AIV again (the rule is sort of let's tell him a few times to knock it off and if he doesn't, then block). -- Ricky81682 (talk) 02:57, 25 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Boxart images

edit

I see you've once again been uploading boxart and other copyrighted images. Can you point me toward the talk-page discussion or IFD discussion where a consensus was reached to permit these images? If not, why are you uploading material that has previously been deleted as in violation of Wikipedia's fair-use policy? --EEMeltonIV 03:02, 25 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

You've made several edits since I posted my earlier message. Please offer a rationale for the return of the boxart images, or I'll once again go through and have them deleted. Fair-use images need to the subject of critical commentary -- in the fair-use rationales you provide, you say they're there to show Hasbro's distinct style, but the articles themselves make no mention of this. --EEMeltonIV 09:14, 27 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Carelessness and AN/I

edit

Your dubious fair-use claims for toy boxart (e.g. lack of article discussion on Hasbro's "distinct style" that the images supposedly illustrate, and inaccuracy as to source) coupled with unwillingness to engage in talk-page discussion have led me to post a heads up about your editing behavior at the administrators' noticeboard. While waiting for a response, you may want to review WP:NONFREE.

Also, you continue to make careless edits, such as your removal of {{fair use reduce}} here and a spelling correction here. Please be more careful. --EEMeltonIV 13:16, 27 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I do apologize for removing the {{fair use reduce}} edits. It was an accidnet. Mathewignash 18:48, 27 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

It is absolutely imperitive that you respond to talk page comments about fair use. Failure to do so will likely get all your uploads deleted. I have already deleted box art that you recreated after it was deleted as replacible. If you reupload them again I will block you for disruption. Theresa Knott | The otter sank 13:42, 27 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Noted. Thanks for the warning. I'm sometimes unsure how to do things here, but I am trying. Mathewignash 18:48, 27 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Block

edit

It has become painfully obvious that the only way you know how to contribute to this project is by uploading fair use images with dubious claims or uploading copyright violations. As such, you are indefinitely blocked until you realize the problems you are causing to the project itself due to your lack of knowledge of Wikipedia's non-free content guidelines.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 22:59, 27 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Mathewignash (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

Excuese me, but the last admin who came on this page asked me not to upload certain box art or I'd be blocked, told him I understood and agreed. So why did you block me AFTER this was settled?

Decline reason:

Mathew, the issue here is not that today or over the past few days you uploaded a few fair use images with dubious sources/rationales, but that this is a neverending problem with you. You constantly upload fair use images, often several per day, and far too many of these fall outside of the non-free policy. The concerns EEMeltonIV raised at ANI earlier [1] are exactly the same concerns I had with you back in June. Everytime you are taken up on a non-free concern you make a haphazard effort at correcting the problem, if indeed you make any effort at all or even respond to the person leaving the complaint, and prattle off the same lines about how you don't understand the rules and how you'll be more careful in future. Frankly, if I AGF and you really don't understand WP:NONFREE after so much time (your first upload was April 2006!), after so many uploads and after so many blocks then you really should not be uploading anything at all. You are not behind this project's aim of being a free encyclopedia and I have absolutely no doubt that you would continue paying minimal attention to policy as you have always done if unblocked. – Steel 02:47, 28 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Okay I'm obviously not doing this right. I will agree NOT to upload ANY fair use images to Wikipedia. Then we can't have this problem again. Deal? Mathewignash 03:01, 28 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
After a short discussion with Ryulong, we are willing to unblock you under the following conditions: You agree to (a) upload no images at all (fair use or otherwise), and (b) make no edits to the 'Image:' namespace. – Steel 03:10, 28 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Before I agree, please clairify this for me... What does #2 mean? I can't move an image around on an article (say, left to right, top to bottom)? Or do you mean I can't edit the image's page? If somoeone posts to my talk page to about an image I previously uploaded can I address their concern? Or maybe I should write you and ask about it before I do anything? I could live with that.
I would like to at least ask that EVENTUALLY I be allowed to add GDFL-self images I take of my toy collection with my own camera, since these can't be disputed as being free. Of course I won't post them for now though. I'll ask you again in a couple weeks see if it's okay to post them. I will only post these AFTER I get your permission. Mathewignash 03:19, 28 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Meaning that you can move images around articles, but not edit image pages. If someone posts about a previous upload, write to their talk page about it. We can, of course, revisit the conditions in future if necessary. – Steel 03:26, 28 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Okay. I can agree. I do have a collecton of classic toys I wanted to photograph and upload the Wikipedia where i see articles with no photos. I'll take some photos over the next week, but won't upload them. Let me come up with a few good ones, self made under GFDL-self with my digital camera, and I'll present them to you for your permission. You let me know what you think. In the meantime I can practice with my new camera and make sure the pictures are nice. I think I can contribute useful legal material here, but I'll take it slow. Mathewignash 03:41, 28 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Right, I've unblocked you. It doesn't sit well with me to be a dick like this, but there is a problem here that needs to be solved. See you around. – Steel 03:47, 28 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Still says it's Autoblocked. I wanted to revert a vandalism on the Targetmaster article that some anonymous poster put there. Can you do it? There is some guy using 170.215.130.65 to make vandalizations to Transformers articles. He goes in and changes what the character turns into, or their name, or changes what series they belonged to. He keeps coming back every few weeks under a new IP and I have to revert all his nonsense. Maybe you could just post a message to him asking him to stop the vandalizations? He's been asked twice already on his IP. If it's the same guy as before he'll keep doing it until he is blocked and them move to a new IP in a few weeks. For instance he used to be at IP 74.46.214.61 until he was blocked from it. I don't have real proof it's the same guy, but he makes the same sort of edits to the same articles. Mathewignash 03:57, 28 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've lifted the autoblock and Theresa knott [2] seems to be on top of this vandal of yours. – Steel 14:57, 28 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, and a comment on Image:Beast Mode.png

edit

Wanted to let you know that your work in rolling back the weird edits by the Transformers guy are appreciated.

That said, you were specifically told not to edit in the image namespace. This was, I believe, specifically because of your insertion of contentious fair use rationales specifically to avoid autodeletion. I've reverted your edit to Image:Beast Mode.png on this basis. Chris Cunningham 11:18, 30 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

This was probably a communication failure. Mathew, when you said "can I write one and you let me know if it sounds correct or not?" I was expecting you to bring it to my talk. Sorry for any confusion - please don't edit image pages. – Steel 11:28, 30 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes, should I have posted it to your talk page instead? Mathewignash 21:18, 30 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Santon (Transformers), and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.seibertron.com/database/character.php?char_id=683. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 21:17, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

edit

Hi. I'm posting to bring your attention to a move request located at Talk:Rodimus#Move request. I've made some comments there about how the article history needs to be patched up, and before doing that, we should decide which title to use for the main article. Normally I would just move the page as requested, because nobody has voiced opposition, but I notice in the history that there's been some disagreement about the name. Thus, I'd like to be sure that we're taking everything into account before I move any pages around. If you have any thoughts to share, please do join the discussion. Cheers. -GTBacchus(talk) 21:51, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Promotional images

edit

Greetings. I see above that you've stopped uploading promotional images of Transformers toys, since many of them have been deemed "replaceable" and have been deleted. I can also see, looking through your logs, that you've uploaded a ton of free photographs that you took yourself. Thanks for uploading those! It's great to have free photos of them.

I took the liberty of deleting all the "replaceable" notices on your page, since they seemed excessive. (If you disagree and want them to stay, please just revert me, I don't mind.) I'll be going through your old uploads and tagging for deletion all the promotional photos of existing toys. No offense. (I won't tag any of your free images, those are great.) It'll probably add a ton of new messages to your talk page as well, but I'll go back and delete those too when I'm done. All the best, – Quadell (talk) (random) 19:42, 7 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Okay, whew! I'm done. I've removed all the new notices I put on your page, and I also removed the old ones on your talk page that have been dealt with. You can look through this page's history if you want to see them, and like I said, feel free to revert me if you want to see all the notices for some reason. Thanks again for uploading your own free photos! – Quadell (talk) (random) 21:45, 7 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I was checking through those logs to see if any of them were disputable or could be replaced with my free images. Although I don't need the long notice, can I get a list of what's being deleted so I can check them over? For instance a few of those pictures were of toys never produced, only made as a prototype, so the only known photograph of said toy would NOT be replaceable. Others were for toys set to be released next year. They can be replaced, but next year. They should be fair use UNTIL THEN. What do you think? Mathewignash 21:51, 7 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes, you're right -- so long as an image of the unreleased toy is necessary. (If a photo of a different existing toy could illustrate the article just as well, then the unreleased photo wouldn't pass WP:NFCC#8.) There may also have been some photos that you created yourself, from your collection, but that you accidentally tagged {{promotional}}. If so, they should be retagged, not deleted.
Anyway, one way to get a full list is to look through this page's history. Another way is to look at my logs; the first third or so of this page should be the applicable images. All the best, – Quadell (talk) (random) 13:13, 8 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think Quadell said everything I wanted to. Please post the names of the images of the unreleased toys on my talk page. east.718 at 02:47, December 15, 2007
I've replaced those images. Cheers! east.718 at 03:35, December 15, 2007

According to Wikimedia Commons, uploading photographs of toys with a free license is not permissable; such photos are considerd derivative works and the copyright is still held by the original creator (see Commons:Derivative works). It might be prudent to mention that the photos depict copyright works, and include non-free tags with fair use rationales for these images. --Muchness (talk) 22:15, 16 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Csspike.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Csspike.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. UIN revo (talk) 04:57, 25 December 2007 (UTC) Reply

Blocked

edit

You have been indefinitely blocked from editing in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for repeatedly putting the project at risk with multiple, repeated copyright violation and breaching the parole agreement which was a condition to being unblocked the last time. If you believe this block is unjustified you may contest this block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below.

{{unblock| I was asked not to upload image for a time and I did. Then I talked with user Steel359 about adding proper tags to my former images, and he said it was okay as long as I didn't delete any info, which I did. Later he allowed me to ONLY post GFDL-self photos I took to articles. If there is a problem with this, just email me okay? I only have done as I've been asked to do for all this time and I don't want any problem. My address is [email protected]}}

Thanks, no problem. If there are any questions in the future, just email or message me. I'm trying to follow all rules here. Can someone remove the Autoblock too? Mathewignash (talk) 20:57, 26 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Photographs

edit

I noticed that you have uploaded a large number of photographs of Transformers toys. Unfortunately, you cannot release a photograph of copyrighted modern sculpture or art under a free license. Please read the Wikimedia Commons page on derivative works. I know it seems counterintuitive — after all, you did take the photo — but in addition to the copyright you have in the photo itself, Hasbro also has a copyright in the image and appearance of the Transformers toys. Thus, either each of these photos needs a valid fair use rationale, or they will have to all be deleted. *** Crotalus *** 22:08, 29 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Can someone PLEASE give me an example of a proper copyright notice for these toys? I worked so hard to do all these PROPERLY, by Wikipedia standards, and now I'm told it was wrong. Mathewignash (talk) 22:23, 29 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Photographs of toys are fair use. As such, most of the uploads you made may have to be deleted if they cannot qualify for inclusion under WP:NONFREE because they are of too high a quality.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 01:13, 30 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Transformers articles

edit

The mass of articles you are creating about characters in the transformers universe look as though they will never be expanded beyond stubs, and they look as if they will all eventually end up being deleted as non notable. Why not create something like a List of Transformers characters, or add to it if something similar already exists? J Milburn (talk) 14:39, 30 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Let's give it time to see if they are added too or not. If they are not, they can be deleted. They are just stubs. Mathewignash (talk) 14:40, 30 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Tsrepugnus.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Tsrepugnus.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 00:38, 12 January 2008 (UTC) Reply

Combaticon Article

edit

I noticed you keep attempting to correct a submission to the Combaticon Wiki page.

If you watch the Episode Aerial Assault, Episode 58 from Season 2, you'll see that the Combaticons are in that episode "before" they are created by Starscream in Episode 62 of that season, Starscream's Brigade.

I would appreciate it if you did research on what is put in before modifying the page back to inaccurate data.

I put a caveat that perhaps Episode 58 comes AFTER Episode 62 in the timeline, but in fact, the Combaticons first appear BEFORE their creation.

Please feel free to respond to me letting me know what you think.

Thank You. —Preceding unsigned comment added by BengalsFan74 (talkcontribs) 01:19, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Autobot City

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Autobot City, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Autobot City. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Tscheetorbm.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Tscheetorbm.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Fair use rationale for Image:Techspecinstructions.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Techspecinstructions.jpg.

Thank you. Ricky81682 (talk) 04:19, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Incinerator-movie.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Incinerator-movie.jpg.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. edit

Hi there. Yes, a *few* non-free images are OK, but the article had something like 20 in before, which per Foundation policy we can't allow. As you know more about the subject than me, can you have a look to see if it can be done with, say, no more than five images? Especially if some of the images are used in other articles (and so don't need to be repeated). Thanks, Black Kite 23:50, 20 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Bboom-robot.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 13:48, 26 February 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rossrs (talk) 13:48, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Image:Bboom-robot.jpg

edit

A tag has been placed on Image:Bboom-robot.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image with an unknown source or an unknown copyright status which has been tagged as such for more than 7 days, and it still lacks the necessary information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Bboom-robot.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. αѕєηιηє t/c 15:52, 5 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Nightbird.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading Image:Nightbird.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 14:40, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:14, 9 March 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rossrs (talk) 12:14, 9 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Jetfireiii-anim.gif)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Jetfireiii-anim.gif.

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:25, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Dinbot

edit

Regarding the clone image - please take note that all non-free images on Wikipedia must adhere to WP:NONFREE. In the case of the Dinobot article, the clone image can only be used for assisting specific commentary within the article. Given there is already an image of Dinobot in his pre-Transmetal 2 form, and the (somewhat needless) segment regarding his clone no longer exists (see WP:WAF), I removed the image when I copy-edited the article. The other images can be used to give a general depiction of DB throughout the BW series (more or less). Alternatively, you could swap the first image for the clone picture.

Also, Do you have source that claims Dinobot was...er was planned to be in Transtech? The article only said he was rumored to be. --  ShadowJester07  ►Talk  22:20, 13 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Blackout-soundwave.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Blurr.jpg}

Thank you for uploading Image:Blurr.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Why...

edit

...did you label Image:Rumble-boxart.jpg and Image:Frenzy-boxart.jpg as comic images when clearly they are not? Can you please also point me toward the discussion/agreement about what type of images you're allowed to upload and how to tag them? --EEMIV (talk) 06:36, 1 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've been allowed to upload pictures for months and only done a few every few weeks. The talk was had a long while back and it was agreed that EVERY picture of a Transformer, scan from a comic, pic of the toy, box art, was all equally non-free, so moderate use of pictures with a non-free tage was fine if done in moderation to help explain an article. If you want to replace a particular picture, feel free to submit it for review. Mathewignash (talk) 13:07, 1 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Can you provide an exact link for where Image:Scrapper-movie.jpg came from? I remain dubious of your claim that so many images come from transformers.com. Notability of Alex Kubalsky

edit

A tag has been placed on Alex Kubalsky requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. — ERcheck (talk) 13:44, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

How is it possible...

...that after so many notes, discussions, and occasional blocks, you persist in inaccurately indicating where so many of your Transformers images come from? --EEMIV (talk) 17:27, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for pointing out any problems, I'll see about fixing them right away. I had been using a template for many pictures which pointed to the main Transformers site, but I'll change them to the specific page the images now reside on. You are, as always, always helpful. If any continue to have problems just notify me. Mathewignash (talk) 20:39, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think I have them all fixed. Let me know if you see any more. Many of them WERE from www.transformers.com, if you look closely. They ones which were not are corrected. If they are from bad sources, let me know if they have to be removed. Thanks Mathewignash (talk) 21:06, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Nemesisprime-alternators.jpg.

Hot Rod / Rodimus

edit

Thanks for your work with the Hot Rod (Transformers) and Rodimus articles. Previously, the articles were almost completely identical, as by far the most of the content was about the G1 character. You removed the G1 content from Rodimus and instead left a link to Hot Rod (Transformers) in place. There are other, later, characters named Rodimus too, presumably because Hasbro lost the trademark to "Hot Rod". It was the duplication of identical content that annoyed me in the first place. You have resolved this by making Hot Rod (Transformers) about the original G1 character and Rodimus about the other characters. Thanks. JIP | Talk 19:43, 12 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

image deletions for Transformers articles

edit

What was not correct on all those pictures which you just deleted today? I fixed everything that was noted, and someone else reduced the size, and then you still deleted them. Was there something still wrong with them? Mathewignash (talk) 19:30, 14 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I would really appreciate a response. I can't find a good reason why these pictures were deleted after I fixed them. Please talk to me. Thanks Mathewignash (talk) 14:13, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

"Hasbro Transformers Series" is not really a sufficient source. If you choose to re-upload the pictures, you'll need to provide a more specific source (episode #, comic issue #, etc.). Melesse (talk) 21:02, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't think you understand. Many of these are pictures from the www.habsro.com web site, used for promotion of the toy, and I sited the pages. For instance the image Breakaway-movie.jpg was just a picture from the manufacturer's web site as a source. I linked to that page on their site. How much more detail can I give? I understand the comic book scans and the TV show screenshots, I will add specific artists and issues, but I can't give more from a promotional item than the site it came from. Let me know what else I could add. Thanks Mathewignash (talk) 21:14, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
For that example, you would want to add the exact url of the page the promotion was on. Since it's just a promotion it might have expired by now, so if that page is gone you'd need to link to an archived version of it. Melesse (talk) 01:54, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Okay, for instance, that Breakaway pictuter I mentioned, was linked back to the page on www.hasbro.com it came from, wasn't it? So why was it deleted? Mathewignash (talk) 02:22, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I see the problem here. You'll have to excuse me because I delete hundreds of images a day and they all tend to blur together, and your question prompted me to think it was a source issue and it wasn't. My bad. I see lots of people have already talked to you about this so I'll try to make it brief. Fair use images are for critical commentary about design or form that the reader could only easily get an idea of with a picture. I know a lot of fair use images don't really fit that and admins (myself included, and rather unfortunately, I think) let them slide. Now, more or less, all transformers are the same, right? Once a reader sees one transformer, written color and feature descriptions could give them a pretty good idea of what another one looks like. When that's the case, all but the first reference image aren't necessary and ought to be deleted. Melesse (talk) 02:55, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I have been told by other admins that one fair use picture per character would be allowed. In the case of Breakaway, there have two different characters to share that name over the years (Hasbro recycles names sometimes) - they were very different characters Hasbro produced in different years, one a red jet who was a medic, the other a white car who was a warrior. I had one picture of one, and one picture of the other. You deleted the second. I hope I'm explaining this properly. Let me know what you think. Mathewignash (talk) 09:25, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I either made a mistake and overlooked that or that wasn't explained in the rationale. Find the link to the deleted image and I'll restore it and if you need to, add that to the fair use rationale. Melesse (talk) 09:33, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for understanding. I'll go over the other pictures you deleted in that group and see if any others were just things you didn't understand or if they were legit deletions. Some probably were legit, but I'll double check them. If I see any others that I think should be there, do I post them to you, or just re-upload them and try to explain in the rational? Mathewignash (talk) 09:37, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Whichever you prefer, I don't care. Melesse (talk) 09:41, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Starscream's Clones

edit

Why don't you show me a piece of official material that says Animated Starscream's clones are called Skywarp, Thundercracker, Ramjet, Sunstorm and Dirge before you go and add them to the character pages again? --Hiryu84 (talk) 14:27, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Merge problems

edit

The proposition to merge the air Razor to "List of Beast Wars..." does not necessarily mean it will be moved there; it just means it needs to be merged somewhere - perhaps multiple places - due to the fact it fails the guidelines specified on Talk:List of Beast Wars characters. See it as an alternative to AFD. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  09:26, 15 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I did not quite understand that last comment you left on my Talk page; are you saying you you want to merge the Character page with the other Characters? --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  09:35, 15 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
The thing is, there are various problems with the articles that make them very difficult to stand by themselves. As I stated on the talk page, the articles contain no reliable sources for trusted third party sources, fail to assert any notability given within the guidelines of WP:GNG, nor does it contain much actual critical commentary in a way that satisfies WP:WAF. The ultimate kill-point for the article is that there are not many third-party RS' that cover the topic. According to WP:V, "If no reliable, third-party sources can be found for an article topic, Wikipedia should not have an article on it.". --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  09:47, 15 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Energon30.jpg.

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Shockwave-moviegame.jpg}

edit

Thank you for uploading Image:Shockwave-moviegame.jpg.

Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Fair use rationale for Image:Csironhide-cobra.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Csironhide-cobra.jpg.

Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 21:06, 18 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Defensor-universe.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Defensor-universe.jpg.

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 04:26, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:Downshift-g1.jpg

edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Downshift-g1.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Melesse (talk) 09:54, 23 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

edit

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Metalhawk.jpg.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:42, 26 October 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 19:42, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
