User talk:Master Jay/Archives July-Nov 2006
Thanks
Appreciate the help--and the historical wipe out. I am pretty easy to find, but you are correct. Worried about whoever OSINT is--they keep deleting my stuff. I am working VERY hard to eliminate editorial tones and try to stay with neutral facts, but it is hard to write about OSINT without referring to the stuff that I have been central to. The elimination of the Aspin-Brown stuff by OSINT was in my view especially mean-spirited.
Would be great if you guys could "caution" OSINT.
I will work hard to get others to contribute and in that way lessen my profile. Just want to do this through Wikipedia and not in isolation.
User page vandalism
Thank you for reverting the vandalism on my user page. IrishGuy talk 19:28, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
My RFA
You protected this blank, saying that it "has been deleted 14 times", when it had only been deleted once. This is a real topic for an article, and I am now writing it (using most of the previous content, which was mostly accurate), after getting help from an admin. Please be more careful in the future about deleting and protecting articles. --SPUI (T - C) 15:17, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- I restored this for SPUI to make into a proper road article despite the mess left by the Satirocity idjit, and now it's a proper article. Just needs an eye kept out for m0r00ns - David Gerard 15:33, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Re: Andrea Bargnani
I changed it because, preferably, the opening sentence of any article should give a concise definition of the subject that is complete in itself. I feel that leaving out his current status as a player (member of the Toronto Raptors) yields an incomplete, unsatisfying definition. The sentence I wrote was not a run-on sentence, but I have now changed it to reflect your underlying concern. Punctured Bicycle 22:59, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
User 65.3.167.159/Demfourlife
Hi Master Jay, would you mind doing the honors on the talk page of this user 65.3.167.159 (talk · contribs · logs) who is also (I believe) this user Demfourlife (talk · contribs · logs). The first IP has broken the 3rr rule insisting on a dubious website citation that the subject is gay, engaged in low level incivility [1] and creatively vandalised an article [2]. The other has been doing likewise [3] and edits the same pages. I would do it myself but it may have more impact coming from another user, plus he's threatening to revert my contributions on other pages.--Zleitzen 02:18, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks MasterJay, good work. This user seems to have a few IP addresses as well as the Demfourlife name. I asked for semi-protection of the page earlier to deal with this but it was denied (?!?) which is frustrating and has just wasted more of our time. I suspect the user will continue with other addresses, will keep you informed. Cheers. --Zleitzen 02:34, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- Keep trying folks. I have done nothing wrong. I thought this was supposed to be non-personal. Now I am stupid also. Keep patting each other in the back. Semi protection for the page? Are you kidding me? Now it's your page? Of course you were denied.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.145.8.2 (talk • contribs)

My RfA
For those of you who supported my RfA, I highly appreciate your kind words and your trust in me. For those who opposed - many of you expressed valid concerns regarding my activity here; I will make an effort in addressing them as time goes on while at the same time using my admin tools appropriately. So, salamat, gracias, merci, ありがとう, спасибо, धन्यवाद, 多謝, agyamanak unay, شكرًا, cảm ơn, 감사합니다, mahalo, ขอบคุณครับ, go raibh maith agat, dziękuję, ευχαριστώ, Danke, תודה, mulţumesc, გმადლობთ, etc.! If you need any help, feel free to contact me.
PS: I took the company car (pictured left) out for a spin, and well... it's not quite how I pictured it. --Chris S. 23:34, 13 July 2006 (UTC)This article was soft-redirected and protected apparently because of repeated creations. Is the statement by the user in the Talk page accurate? If it is, there are no longer any articles linking to this page, it is found at Wikiquote, and it is unlikely to be recreated, and therefore would should be deleted completely. —Centrx→talk • 05:48, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- Then, is there any reason to have this is a protected page that is just a link somewhere else? Would you object to it being deleted? —Centrx→talk • 22:43, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
notes about blocking
When you indef block an account, remember to drop a note on the user/talk page saying so...saves others' time and gives the blockee an explanation. Thanks. -Splash - tk 15:18, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
Vandalism
Some of us lamers still use dial up. Hope you don't make it a policy to ban address ranges as IP's change with every connection. Not angry or anything, it's just that whoever used this address last must have done some scribbling, and sending cease and desist requests they'll never get does nothing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.222.126.236 (talk • contribs)

Dear Jay
Tell me, dear Jay - how could I have possibly not visited such a beautiful userpage before? But, never mind - I will make sure to return pretty often, now that I've seen it ;) But that's not the reason why I chose to visit you, but to congratulate you on your consistent, great efforts - rest assured, they don't go unnoticed. I only wish I had not missed your RfA some time ago... can you forgive me? <:( Big hugs! Phaedriel ♥ The Wiki Soundtrack!♪ - 19:59, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

RFA
Thanks for bringing up the email thing- I didn't realize I hadn't done it. I appreciate the RFA offer, unfortunately the timing is a bit unfortunate. I've been doing research to write up an article to featured status, and I would like to get that done before I do anything else. Could you give me a month maybe? 62.25.109.194 block
Thanks Jay
Too new to really know what to do but others gave advice. Hope it was the right thing to do. Looking at the history I'm not sure that a 3 hour block will do a great deal, can much be done about this kind of thing? (never mind the fact that as a UK citizen I appear to be funding a gov department that specialises in vandalism!). Regards Nigel 15:31, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Re: All Headline News and Viejito311
I would disagree and object to Viejitos311's argument. Generally accepted news convention is that world news agencies would all carry similar articles on world news events. Additionally Viejito311 states that the organization plagiaries, this is a civil and criminal distinction that is on it's face libelous and defamatory.
If in fact Viejito311's arguments have merit, then they should be brought in a legal venue, and not posted in the veil of anonymity and in a manner that has repeatedly been seen as vandalism.
Viejitos311's tone and demeanor is more indicative of someone with an "axe to grind" or someone with a grudge than the act of a professional journalist as Viejitos311 claims to be. Smells more like "SOUR GRAPES"

BTX motherboard article
I was wondering whether the BTX article at BTX_(computers) should be moved to BTX_motherboards. Having %28 and %29 looks messy imho. I also think the article should be entitled BTX Motherboards rather than BTX Computers. Id appreciate your thoughts on this proposal. -- RND T C 19:30, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

So where do I report impersonations, then?
I reported Christopher Keim (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) for impersonating User:Darth Culator and vandalising the Wookieepedia article, but it appears that you deleted the listing from the vandalism report page without taking any action, saying the listing was incorrectly listed. So where am I supposed to report this sort of thing?
I realize that this may, at first glance, seem like a dispute over content rather than a genuine case of vandalism. I would also be forced to admit this is obviously an off-Wikipedia dispute migrating here for some reason. However, considering that the editor in question seems to be only making edits to the Wookieepedia article which replace the site logo with Image:Troll.jpg, and that he seems to be doing the same thing as SiIly Dan (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), Darth.Culator (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), and Dan MacQueen (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), who have previously been blocked for impersonation (not to mention Dan MacQueer (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), who probably should be), I wouldn't characterize this as a content dispute. If the person in question had been using a single username, was not misrepresenting himself, and was not apparently editing solely to troll, we'd have taken it to the talk page without needing to bother Wikipedia administrators.
Thanks for your time, —Silly Dan (talk) 11:56, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. I'm still not clear about where to report this, though, beyond picking a random administrator and alerting them on their talk pages. —Silly Dan (talk) 14:35, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

I'm all for discussing changes. I have worked very hard to improve Gille de Rais article, I know I made errors but those were obviously resulting from the tug-o-war I was waging to preserve the improvements made and those errors were of course corrected by my hand. 72.195.144.113

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Butchcarter.jpg)
This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:Butchcarter.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. About my userpage: My wife was complaining that she wasn't mentioned on it, so I decided to give her the spotlight for a little while.
About my contributions: Well, thanks. I don't do as much as I'd like. I hope to take a few pictures of Brampton eventually to include in articles, particularly one of city hall, since the one in Brampton, Ontario is marked as fair use.
About the BCC article: Great work. A construction timeline and everything! Just one question. Did you take the picture that you have included on the page? There are no people visible, so it makes me think it was taken from a website. Or maybe you just went there early in the morning? I only ask because I'll add BCC to my list of things to take pictures of if it's not a free use image. Oh wait, just noticed you said it's "promotional"--I don't think that would qualify for a GFDL license. But as I said, I just want to know what I should take pictures of; I won't mess with its inclusion. └ OzLawyer / talk ┐ 13:19, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- I uploaded photographs for BCC and Brampton City Hall and took off the non-free use ones, although I think I'm going to need to redo the city hall one some time. └ OzLawyer / talk ┐ 02:09, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

A very Californian RfA thanks from Luna Santin
Thanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which succeeded with a final tally of (97/4/4)! I've never been able to accept compliments gracefully, and the heavy support from this outstanding community left me at a complete loss for words -- so, a very belated thank you for all of your kind words.
I have done and will continue to do the utmost to serve the community in this new capacity, wherever it may take me, and to set an example others might wish to follow in. With a little luck and a lot of advice, this may be enough. Maybe someday the enwiki admins of the future will look back and say, "Yeah, that guy was an admin." Hopefully then they don't start talking about the explosive ArbComm case I got tied into and oh what a drama that was, but we'll see, won't we? Surely some of you have seen me in action by now; with that in mind, I openly invite and welcome any feedback here or here -- help me become the best editor and sysop I can be.

Actually, I have a couple books about Brampton and Peel Region I got from the library a couple months ago with plenty of images in them for which the copyright would have expired by now. I haven't had the time to actually do anything with them, though (I was planning on adding a lot to the article, since it really is sub-standard). However, I can't renew them again and they're due back on Sunday. Maybe I can scan a couple images before I return them. └ OzLawyer / talk ┐ 00:32, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
