What I wrote to Jennylen was

Yesterday I saw you mentioned in the articles talk page that sources were on its way and suggested you mention that in the AFD debate - the link to that was within the AFD tag.

If she had done what I suggested right away I doubt the article would have been deleted at that time. It was for her to do not me - her article to be defended not mine.

Now with regards to the deletion debate I agreed with the nomination but listed the reasons as to why to give the author a chance to address the issues. More specifically I placed tags in the article itself as an aid and also pointed out that I felt the nomination was a bit premature. Hardly urging. There is a strong move in wikipedia to increase the reliability which means third party sources and not original research. Notability requirements have also to be met.Peter Rehse 10:08, 15 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ah - perhaps that it the problem. It sounds like me to write I would when dispensing advice. I can't tell someone to do somethingPeter Rehse 10:37, 15 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Welcome, colleague

edit

Always good to see another librarian here, and I hope you'll say a little about yourself. Just wanted to mention that I have a secondary user name Librarian B, that I employ once in a while when editing local history & articles about other places I know, and similar topics of personal interest, as distinct from the stuff I mainly work on as an administrator. I don't think there will be any confusion. If you think there will be, one of us can change. My email is enabled if you want to talk.

as for your question above, start with how to write a page--and then just follow the examples. If you're interested in AfD, WP:Deletion policy. The detailed policy pages are a quagmire. Worse than the cataloging rules. DGG (talk) 17:35, 17 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
no objection about the user name, just thought you should be aware. You're being a more active editor than my alter ego is ever likely to be. If you do want to change, see WP:CHUDGG (talk) 16:40, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please don't carry the debate to my page. I happily get your messages and talk to each but don't engage to each other in my page please. Thank you Librarian2 19:20, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

WP:TORIG is now WP:TIMETRACE (also WP:TIMET)

edit

WikiProject True Origins WP:TORIG is now WikiProject Timeline Tracer WP:TIMETRACE also WP:TIMET. This follows many opinions that the previous name of the project could confuse or provide negative feelings in some users. Daoken 02:10, 22 August 2007 (UTC) Reply

I hope you're still interested in improving Psychic surgery, I've suggested to Perfectblue that you would be a good collaborator on it.[1] She tried some simple structural changes, which didn't seem to go over well... I'm happy to stay involved and try to keep the peace. Dreadstar 08:38, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

WP:TIMETRACE has been enhanced, give a look

edit

WikiProject Timeline Tracer has been greatly enhanced with Guidelines and Strategy as well as many alternatives which will make your editions more easy to target, easier to tag or comment and much more. Please go to WP:TIMETRACE, give a look in the new tools and get busy helping articles. Remember that this WikiProject is helping the backbone (beyond content) of all articles , Reliable Sources and Verification. Thank you for participating Daoken 11:18, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the compliment and the invitation! WP:TT looks like an interesting project, I'm definitely interested and I'll take a look to see if and how I can contribute! Glad to see you, JL and PB working on the PsiSurgery article..I'll continue to see what I can do to help there too. Dreadstar 16:57, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your invitation

edit

Thank you very much for your invitation. I can't commit to anything, as my schedule makes my work with Wikipedia somewhat "streaky" — I may have a lot of edits for a couple of days, then nothing for a week. When I am on duty, it's usually on new-page patrol, which could be a full time job if someone were so inclined. I appreciate the "fair and balanced" compliment, as I am a reporter by trade who attempts to be just that. Maybe I should work for Fox News. :-) Realkyhick 17:20, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re your note

edit

Hi Librarian2, thanks for your note. I'm afraid I don't fully understand the intended function of the TT project - could you give me a real or hypothetical example of what might be involved?

As for bots, I have relatively little knowledge about Wikipedia bots, but I am a software engineer and would be happy to talk about the feasibility of an idea if that would help. Jakew 17:35, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

This project seems perfect for pedants like myself. I approve.
Hmm. I had some conversations with User:David Gerard some time ago about a similar idea (an '{{unsourced}}' bot). Personally, I think it's a great idea, but I doubt that a bot would be approved unless there was a human element. I don't fully understand why not, I'm afraid.
I doubt there would be an objection to customising browser software, however, which I know David was thinking of doing for the unsourced tagging. Modifications to AWB and/or Popups might be possible... Jakew 19:18, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks!
You need the HTML output to have a style="float:left;" attribute on each label, but not on the surrounding box. I'm not 100% certain how to do this in Wiki's markup - I've never tried - but I will find out and let you know shortly. Jakew 19:47, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Have a look here: User:Jakew/sandbox. Is this what you need? Jakew 19:59, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'm happy to do it, but I might break some pages while I'm doing it, because I'll have to change all of the label templates. Do you happen to know if anyone's using them yet? Jakew 20:11, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks - I fixed the language links. There is a slight layout problem still to fix -- the languages labels seem to overlap on my computer... Jakew 20:35, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Glad to help. I wouldn't be surprised if there are still some problems in the templates, though, so please let me know if you find any. Jakew 20:58, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, I prefer K.I.S. (or KIS) over KISimple, but I won't be too upset if it's changed anyway. Jakew 18:29, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Homeopathy

edit

Actually it's progressing very well and I'm basically done, aside from a few minor things that might need to be changed that others propose. Aside from that it should be done within a few days. You could help by correcting minor grammar problems in the draft or proposing other changes on the talk page. Wikidudeman (talk) 18:17, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

water memory fact tag

edit

Can you explain the fact tag in the intro? I can't tell what it is you'd like to see a ref for. One reading suggests you want to fact the entire statement, but the whole article does that. But maybe you're asking for something else? Maury 20:07, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Possible revision to label template

edit

Hi again. I just wanted to let you know that I've been tinkering with my sandbox copy of the labels. I think I've found a better way that will make it much easier to add new labels, as well as to change them if needed. Have a look at User:Jakew/sandbox2 for an example; it uses User:Jakew/sandboxtpl2 to control all the formatting. Jakew 23:44, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, I had to say it probably meets the guidelines for being notable enough. I haven't read the article, but I assume it is one of those which needs an NPOV fix. If you need help doing that, let me know. –––Martinphi (Talk Ψ Contribs) 06:42, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

BTW, you might want to look at this. –––Martinphi (Talk Ψ Contribs) 06:46, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hmmm, you ask what I think of it. Well, bios should be about the person, and that could include the controversy- but the article should not be mainly about the controversy. The controversy, if it's going to be such a large part of the article, should be its own article, and should have a technical name, not something like "The Jacques Benveniste controversy." Anyway, I think it is a sorry excuse for a bio, but might make a pretty good basis for an article on the controversy. –––Martinphi (Talk Ψ Contribs) 21:03, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's a nice idea, but I think it will be practically impossible to do. I might see if I can design a logo, though. Jakew 19:21, 28 August 2007 (UTC) Reply

Obsolete articles

edit

Well, one of the examples you used "elections 1992, what we can expect", actually sounds like an article that should not have existed in the first place, under WP:CBALL. For something "obsolete", that had a fleeting moment of 'fame', its basic notability would be in question, so I think Wikipedia:Notability#Notability is not temporary would be most appropriate for that. Reading through WP:NOT and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Common outcomes may give you more insights. That's off the top of my head. I'd be more than happy to look at any specific articles you have in mind..! Dreadstar 17:47, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

User pages, WP:UPDATE, etc

edit

Yes, I feel very privileged. WikiFairies are strange and wonderful creatures. Now all I need to do is update the text!

I'm afraid I don't understand what you're asking about WP:UPDATE. Sorry to ask, but would you mind explaining? Jakew 19:44, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

There seem to be two templates on WP:UPDATE. Both add Category:Outdated articles/sources to the page. I'm pretty sure that {{UpdateWatch}} is the one that's causing WP:UPDATE itself to appear in the category. Do you want me to try to fix it? Jakew 20:02, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ok, fixed it. :-) Jakew 20:11, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi

edit

I'm fine, thank you for thinking of me. I made a few changes to KIS earlier this afternoon - I'm really pleased that more people are starting to use the labels now. Jakew 18:55, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, you must take the credit for the initial idea. I think that's one of the great things about the Wiki concept: you start something and, before you know it, other people have taken the idea and made it into something you never imagined.
As for the pink rack: it was a happy accident. It was supposed to be orange, but I typed in the wrong number! :-) Jakew 19:14, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Good lord no you've not done anything wrong! I have the page on my watchlist, and I had not seen any requests, and I was letting Jake take care of the new layout stuff, so I didn't have much to contribute is all. Nothing personal! I guess I must have been sleeping when the activity was happening, huh? Lol. Sowwy! ArielGold 19:02, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
