Well, thank you very much! I haven't looked at mine in a while, actually; I'm surprised it's still functioning. :P Yours is awesome as well! Newbie treatment

Hi Ilyushka88!

Because you interacted with User:Alis grave nil, you unwittingly became a participant in WP:NEWT. I apologize for any inconvenience caused by my edits under that name. However, I sincerely believe that looking at the way new users are treated, and where we can improve, will be beneficial to Wikipedia in the long run. The project is always looking to recruit new, dedicated editors, and I think it is very important that new users acting in good faith feels welcomed.

Your feedback is most welcome on the project page.

Again, sorry for the misrepresentation. If there's anything I can do to make up for your lost time, please let me know. Regards, decltype (talk) 09:08, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Ah I have heard of WP:NEWT several times, and even was going to try it myself. When I first searched google for Paul Hellsing, I didn't get many results, so I thought it falls clearly to WP:A7. After that I noticed Hellsing has another name, and searched for Lennart Hellsing. That search gave me several thousand results, and I noticed that also swedish wikipedia has an article about the guy. After that I decided to revert my own tagging, as I think that the article should be here and can be improved. As for the lost time - when I edit Wikipedia, I edit it for fun and to help other people. There is no a such thing as lost time for me :)  Ilyushka88  talk  13:14, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Hey there. I created the badger when I gave it to Tide Rolls. It didn't exist before that. I am not quite sure where I got the idea for that. I've seen so many animal barnstars, that I decided to create ony myself :) Yes I think your rabbit was one of the barnstars that inspired me  Ilyushka88  talk  07:27, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
If you want to steal the template for my rabbit, it is template:NRabbit, just swap out the image and sig, change the wording to your taste, etc. I suggest you get a template, as thus far I have given out about a dozen rabbits in two weeks... silly vandals. He eh. My mistake was making the template in the mainspace, make yours on a subpage. Ohh that reminds me, I need to go move that template... Ken Ober birthname

Does the reference you need have to be publicly verifiable or can I privately verify it for you? Once a lazy media has started to reproduce this erroneous data without going to a legitimate source it will be nearly impossible to correct this. I can give you a hundred people to call including Lee Kernis, Ken's agent, who was the source for the Times obituary. I would also suggest that since the Hollywood Reporter is willing to publish something they cannot possibly have verified, perhaps they should be removed from the list of acceptable sources. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Freandc (talkcontribs) 12:12, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, but it should be publicly verifiable. I have changed the {{tlp|editsemiprotected}} tag you added to Talk:Ken Ober into {{editsemiprotected}} (without the tlp-part) as when tlp is being put in front of a template, it is usually considered as done and won't alert editors that some edit is requested to be done.  Ilyushka88 Talk to me 19:10, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Some more information in case my previous message causes confusion: Usually reliable webpages and books can be used as a source of information. For more info, please see Wikipedia:Verifiability which says:

The most reliable sources are usually peer-reviewed journals; books published by university presses; university-level textbooks; magazines, journals, and books published by respected publishing houses; and mainstream newspapers. Electronic media may also be used, subject to the same criteria. Academic and peer-reviewed publications are highly valued and usually the most reliable sources in areas where they are available, such as history, medicine, and science. Material from reliable non-academic sources may also be used in these areas, particularly if it appears in respected mainstream publications.

User Duck Mania123

Hi, I just reverted a series of vandalism by Duck Mania123 in Tigran Petrosian page. I found your warnings in her/his talk page. I'm kinda new here, don't know what kind of warning I should leave for persistent vandalism like this (or this is not considered as persistent vandalism yet?), so I just contact you just in the case you think there's something need to be done. Thanks in advance! Wikislemur (talk) 11:17, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Hey there. If user keeps vandalising pages after he/she has been given a final warning, the user should be reported to WP:AIV where administrators decide if the user should be blocked from editing. Duck Mania123 has been reported already, so for now we should just wait for administrator to block him/her, and revert the vandalism he does while we wait. Keep up the good work you are doing with vandals :) Feel free to ask me if you need help.  Ilyushka88 Talk to me 11:23, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

why my VQiPS page is a subject for speedy deletion? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cluu2009 (talkcontribs)

It seems like the page was deleted because it was written in a way that it looked like an advertisement. I haven't seen what the article had inside it so I do not know if this was the case, but it should be written in a neutral tone. I suggest you to create a page to User:Cluu2009/sandbox and edit it there. Then other user might review it to see if it still sounds like it has been written like an ad before it is moved to the mainspace.  Ilyushka88 Talk to me 15:29, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi there can you please help me?

Hi Ilyushka88, I noticed you left a comment "(An article with fewer than three incoming links from other articles and needs to be wikified, added uncategorised tag, added [[:Cat using AWB) " on my article "Moko.mobi". I am really trying hard to understand whats the requirement and put in whatever that is missing. Its now even nominated for deletion! I wanted to ask the person who nominated my article for deletion for advice but can't seem to find a way to submit my question. I'm really new to wikipedia and hope you can help me out or give me a clue. —Preceding unsigned comment added by AustralianDevils (talkcontribs) 10:39, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Hey, AustralianDevils. {{Orphan}}-tag is nothing to worry about. It just means that Other articles in Wikipedia don't have links to Moko.mobi. {{wikify}} is nothing to worry about either. It is placed so that someone comes to 'clean' the article and/or make it to meet Wikipedia's quality standards.
The deletion tag seems to say that it's placed there because the article doesn't provide good enough references to establish notability. It would be good to have some 3rd party references that explain why the company is notable and should be included in Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). If you want to contact the person who nominated the article for deletion, you can contact him at this page. Hope this helps.  Ilyushka88 Talk to me 10:56, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Hey. I'm sorry, but wikipedia has guidelines in WP:BIO that should be followed when you are writing about a living person. The person should be notable enough if an article is created about him/her. Ilyushka88 Talk to me 18:21, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

you dont think a junior champion is notable enough? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeremy black9 (talkcontribs) 14:08, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Hey. I searched google for Grace Schusetka-Brown and Grace Schusetka. Both gave 3 results, and those results were from Facebook. When a biography of a living person is written, it should have reliable third party sources that state the person is indeed notable. Facebook and myspace, for example, are not thought to be reliable sources. If you think the person is notable enough to be included in wikipedia, I suggest you to create the article to Special:Mypage/Sandbox. When it is ready, ask some experienced editor to check if it is ready to be move to mainspace. Hope this helps. IlyushkaTalk!Contribs 20:50, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Bots

Hi, I have seen a few bots around this website and I was wondering what they were, what they do and whether a normal editor like me could use one (or two!). Thanks Quiggers1P (talk) 21:51, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Hey. Bots are used to do repetitive tasks that would be hard (or even impossible) to be done by only human editors. One of the most common bots that you will see most when you edit, is ClueBot. ClueBot, for example, tries to detect page blanking and other types of vandalism, reverts them and warns/reports the user. There are over thousand bots that have been approved at the moment, but most of them are not actively editing, or they do just small tasks.
Creating a bot might be pretty difficult process. Programming language is needed, and the bot has to undergo a testing and approvement process. More about creating a bot in here. IlyushkaTalk!Contribs 09:30, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
Some examples of bots are:
Wikipedia:Bots is a great place for information about bots. IlyushkaTalk!Contribs 09:27, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Is it possible for someone else to create a bot for you to use? Thanks Quiggers1P (talk) 19:15, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Well, theorically someone could give you the source code of their bot, but as far as I know, it would still have to go through the testing and approvement process. It would be best to get yourself more familiar with wikipedia in my opinion before trying to create a bot as users with bots should be able to know what the bot is doing and be able to shut it down and fix its errors if it starts going wrong. Articles for Deletion

Hi, I know there are tags for speedy deletion, but I don't really know the process for proposing a page to be deleted. Could you explain it to me? Thanks Quiggers1P (talk) 19:17, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

If you see a page that you think breaks some policy of wikipedia, you can nominate it for deletion/discussion in WP:AFD (articles), WP:TFD (templates), WP:FFD (files), WP:CFD (categories), WP:SFD (stub types), WP:RFD (redirects) or WP:MFD (everything else). If you want to, for example, nominate an article for deletion, follow these steps first (copied from WP:AFD) to make sure the article should be listed:
  1. Read and understand the Wikipedia deletion policy (WP:DEL), which explains valid grounds for deletion. If the page can be improved, this should be solved through regular editing.
  2. Read the article and review its history to properly understand its topic. Some articles may have been harmed by vandalism or poor editing. Stubs and imperfect articles are awaiting further development, and so the potential of the topic should be considered.
  3. If the article is not already tagged to note an existing problem, apply a tag, such as {{notability}}, {{hoax}}, {{original research}}, {{unencyclopedic}}, or {{advert}}; this ensures readers are aware of the problem and may act to remedy it.
  4. Consider turning the page into a useful redirect or proposing it be merged. Neither of these actions requires an AfD.
  5. Check the "What links here" in the article's sidebar, to see how the page is used and referenced within Wikipedia.
  6. Check any interlanguage links, also in the sidebar, which may provide additional material for translation.
  7. Read the article's talk page, which may provide reasons why the article should or should not be deleted; if there was a previous nomination, check that your objections haven't already been dealt with. If there is no discussion then start one, outlining your concerns. Then watch for responses from interested editors.
  8. Familiarize yourself with the guidelines and policies on notability, reliable sources, and what Wikipedia is not. Related guidelines include WP:BIO, WP:COI, WP:CORP, WP:MUSIC, WP:WEB, and, for list articles, WP:CLN. For a list of policies and guidelines that can be useful in a deletion proposal, see Wikipedia:List of policies and guidelines to cite in deletion debates.
  9. When nominating due to sourcing or notability concerns, make a good-faith attempt to confirm that such sources don't exist.
  10. If the article was recently created, please consider that many good articles started their Wikilife in pretty bad shape. Unless it is obviously a hopeless case, consider sharing your reservations with the article creator, an associated WikiProject, or on the article's talk page, and/or adding a cleanup tag, instead of bringing the article to AfD. If the article can be fixed through normal editing, then it is not a good candidate for AfD.
  11. Confirm that the article does not meet the criteria for speedy deletion or proposed deletion.
  12. If you expect the AfD page will be edited by newcomers to Wikipedia (perhaps because the article is linked from some visible place outside Wikipedia), or if you notice this happening, you might want to insert the {{Not a ballot}} template into it.
  13. If you are not logged in, you won't be able to create the AfD discussion page. You should log in or sign up, or request an account first.

If you still think that page should be nominated for deletion, do these steps:

  • Insert {{subst:afd1}} at the top of the article.
  • When you place the tag, add an edit summary "AfD: Nominated for deletion; see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/''NominationName''" and change the NominationName to the name of the article.
  • Save the page.

The resulting AfD box at the top of the article should contain a link to "Preloaded debate" in the AfD page.

  • Click that link to open the article's deletion discussion page. Some text and instructions will appear.
  • Give a reason for the deletion and a category for the debate (instructions are on that page).
  • Use an edit summary such as Creating deletion discussion for [[PageName]]

Then:

  • Go to WP:AFD/T
  • At the top of the list on the log page (there's a comment indicating the spot), insert:

{{subst:afd3 | pg=NominationName}} replacing NominationName appropriately (use "PageName", "PageName (2nd nomination)", etc.).

  • Link to the discussion page in your edit summary: "Adding [[Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/NominationName]]"
  • Save the page. Your insertion will be expanded to the same form as the preceding lines in the file: {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/NominationName}}.

After everything, put {{subst:AFDWarning|Article title}} ~~~~ on the article creator's talk page.

As you can see, it is very complicated to nominate a page for deletion. That's why I think you should familiarize yourself better with wikipedia first. (Yes I gave same advice with our discussion about bots, but that is, unfortunately, true that both are difficult areas of editing). IlyushkaTalk!Contribs 08:24, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I thank you for your continued support of me on wikipedia. I was wondering, if you would mind if I nominated for you to be an Admin. By looking at your edit count I think that you have enough, and I believe that you would make a great admin. Thanks Quiggers1P (talk) 20:29, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

If you're not interested any more, would you mind removing yourself? Thank you and happy editing, Snowolf How can I help? 11:45, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Hey. Thank you for contacting me. I am about to remove myself from Adopters' list. I wasn't able to do that earlier as my computer went broken, and I couldn't edit Wikipedia from any computer until yesterday (I don't trust public computers). I am back now, but I do not plan to adopt anyone in near future. Again - thank you :) IlyushkaTalk!Contribs 14:26, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello

Hello Ilyushka88! I'm Sainsf, and as I see your userpage, I think you can assist me in beautifying my userpage. And I wanted to know if I may join in Wikilove. Do assist me. Thanks, --Sainsf<^> (talk) 18:00, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

trenchtown

hi, I refer to your comment on the page Trenchtown_band. Disarray Magazine and NOISE! are two top punk music magazines. Also, opening for Unwritten Law (historical punk rock band) and Death By Stereo meets the requirements of notability. Please let me know. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rembrandt83 (talkcontribs) 20:35, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Re: (notability & unreferenced, any real sources? Self-published two ebooks?)

Hi,

The author in question is widely known and read in his genre. Urban Fiction or Street Literature is a small niche. For a person to publish books and be able to remain in bestseller list is amazing. I noticed one of my verifiable sources was not working for some reason or another. Thank you for helping me to notice that. It is users like you, who undoubtedly make this website great.

My question to you is, how is the author in question any different from say, "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JA_Konrath" although while abundant in awards etc., shows no verifiable sources, links to sales except for the bloggers on website, where they could state whoever. Furthermore appears to be a blatant promotion by the author. Or "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Wright_%28blogger%29" where the information is scant.

Or The ones below.

"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kole_Black" "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Whyte"

Thank you for your patience.

Regards,

Chris —Preceding unsigned comment added by Greyhatmarket (talkcontribs) 18:11, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Acalamari 22:17, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Drew Pinsky

Sorry for my error on Drew Pinsky. I left a warning on the page of the editor who originally added that, and in the process of cutting and pasting the diff url, I must've inadvertently reverted that material back into the article without even realizing it. Thanks for correcting it. :-) Nightscream (talk) 00:57, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

Hey. I think you mean this revert. It was done by User:Tedder. ;) IlyushkaTalk!Contribs 16:54, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

New Pages and New Users

I've recently been doing some thinking (and a great deal of consultation with Philippe and James at the WMF's community department) on how to keep new users around and participating, particularly in light of Sue's March update. One of the things we'd like to test is whether the reception they get when they make their first article is key. In a lot of cases, people don't stay around; their article is deleted and that's that. By the time any contact is made, in other words, it's often too late.

What we're thinking of doing is running a project to gather data on if this occurs, how often it occurs, and so on, and in the mean time try to save as many pages (and new contributors) as possible. Basically, involved users would go through the deletion logs and through Special:NewPages looking for new articles which are at risk of being deleted, but could have something made of them - in other words, non-notable pages that are potentially notable, or spammy pages that could be rewritten in more neutral language. This would be entirely based on the judgment of the user reviewing pages - no finnicky CSD standards. These pages would be incubated instead of deleted, and the creator contacted and shepherded through how to turn the article into something useful. If they respond and it goes well, we have a decent article and maybe a new long-term editor. If they don't respond, the draft can be deleted after a certain period of time.

I know this isn't necessarily your standard fare, but with your adoption and new pages work I thought it might be up your alley. If you're interested, read Wikipedia:Wiki Guides/New pages, sign up and get involved; questions can be dropped on the talkpage or directed at me. Thanks, Ironholds (talk) 21:10, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi!

My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. I'm chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who make and use Wikipedia have so much to share.

I'm scouring user pages looking for inspiring, motivating and interesting stories of how Wikipedia has affected the lives of people. I'm asking questions like "How has Wikipedia changed your life?", "What's the most interesting story you have about Wikipedia?" and "Has Wikipedia ever surprised you?"

Last year, we used the annual fundraiser as a way to show the world who it is who actually writes Wikipedia. We featured editors from Brazil, Ukraine, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, India, United States and England. This campaign was a huge success, resulting in the most financially successful fundraising campaign ever. It was also a campaign that stayed true to the spirit of Wikipedia, educating the public that this free top-5 website is created by volunteers like you and I.

This year we want to highlight more Russian-language Wikipedia editors, so I am in the process of planning a trip to Russia to interview editors.

If you or someone you know (or have heard about) has been positively affected by Wikipedia, or have something interesting to say about Wikipedia I'd very much like to hear about it!

Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project, or if you know someone else with whom I should speak.

Of course, if you have any questions or concerns, please ask! I will answer as soon as I can. I apologize for any poor translation of this letter, I am using Google-translate. I hope it makes you laugh :)

Hullo. I spent a lot of time making edits to an article. I had a message from you saying you thought I was 'testing' (I forget the exact words). All my edits disappeared. I've only just this second got round to actually registering with Wikipedia, so don't really understand what's going on. EwanHP (talk) 18:17, 8 February 2013 (UTC) ewie

Hello. Can you tell me the name you used when you edited the article / or the name of the article? I am really sorry. I will correct the problem that I have caused. If you tell me the name of the article, I will revert my changes. Thank you IlyushkaTalk!Contribs 18:31, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
Sorry ~ I wasn't a registered user when I was making the changes. (I should really have made _some_ attempt to figure out how Wikipedia works before I launched into editing, I suppose ...) Heya. You haven't done anything wrong. It was me being an idiot :) I think I have fixed my errors now on the article. I'm sorry for all the problems I have caused. IlyushkaTalk!Contribs 18:39, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

IRC office hours for wiki-mentors and Snuggle users

Hi. We're organizing an office hours session with the Teahouse to bring in mentors from across the wiki to try out Snuggle and discuss it's potential to support mentorship broadly. The Snuggle team would appreciate it if you would come and participate in the discussion. We'll be having it in #wikimedia-office connect on Wed. July 17th @ 1600 UTC. See the agenda for more info. --EpochFail(talkwork), Technical 13 (talk), TheOriginalSoni (talk) 17:34, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
