Welcome

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Thanks for your comments on the Mathematical economics article. I am happy to have insight from someone closer to the discipline than I am. You are encouraged to help move the article down the path toward a more balanced depiction of the subject--it has a long way to go before it is close to featured status. I'll forgo the standard {{welcome}} template for now, as something more personalized is probably appropriate. If you have any questions you can ask them here, as I will watchlist this page for changes or you can ask me on my talk page. If you don't want to ask me, you can place the text "{{help me}}" (without the quotes) on your talk page and someone will be along to assist you shortly. Again, welcome. Thank you, Protonk. I'll look forward to help with the Mathematical economics article. --Forich (talk) 01:08, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re: hatnote

edit

"Harvard style" was a dab page, and included Irrumatio as the "other use" besides Parenthetical referencing. I redirected it to Parenthetical referencing as that's, IMO, the primary topic; thus, I had to move the other use to a hatnote. --Cybercobra (talk) 21:38, 23 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the explanation, after googling it I found that it is (unfortunately) also the name of a sex position. I didn't know that when I ask you. --Forich (talk) 15:25, 26 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Economics census

edit

Hello there. Sorry to bother you, but you are (titularly at least) a member of WP:WikiProject Economics, as defined by this category. If you don't know me, I'm a Wikipedia administrator, but an unqualified economist. I enjoy writing about economics, but I'm not very good at it, which is why I would like to support in any way I can the strong body of economists here on Wikipedia. I'm only bothering you because you are probably one of them. Together, I'd like us to establish the future direction of WikiProject Economics, but first, we need to know who we've got to help.

Whatever your area of expertise or level of qualification, if you're interested in helping with the WikiProject (even if only as part of a larger commitment to this wonderful online encyclopedia of ours), would you mind adding your signature to this page? It only takes a second. Thank you.

Message delivered on behalf of User:Jarry1250 by LivingBot.

Firstly, thank you for signing the census, and an apology if you are one of those editors who dislike posts such as this one for messaging you again in this way. I've now got myself organised and you can opt-out of any future communication at WP:WikiProject Economics/Newsletter. Just remove your name and you won't be bothered again.
Secondly, and most importantly, I would like to invite your comments on the census talk page about the project as a whole. I've given my own personal opinion on a range of topics, but my babbling is essentially worthless without your thoughts - I can't believe for one moment that everyone agrees with me in the slightest! :)
All your comments are welcomed. Thanks, - Jarry1250 [Humorous? Discuss.] 17:52, 21 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Manuel Ramírez Gómez

edit

A tag has been placed on Manuel Ramírez Gómez requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. edit

Err, nobody has nominated Manuel Ramírez Gómez for speedy deletion yet, so there's actually no need to use a {{hangon}} tag there. To tell you the truth, it can only be pernicious, because through the tag, you listed the article in the Candidates for speedy deletion category. ^___^ Salvio ( Let's talk 'bout it!) 18:22, 8 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Re: 99ers

edit

Forich, you put the 99ers discussion page as a low priority issue and called it a stub. It could always use more economic data, but it's also an article about current politics and is not a stub in that sense. Note that the 99ers article has been at effect of ideological vandalism by anonymous users who define the unemployed as "unimportant, un-American, and lazy." The 99ers issue is what we call here in America a political football because of two pieces of pending legislation documented in the article.

As evidenced by the Bureau of Labor Statistics link cited in the article, the long-term unemployed are a significant impact on the economy. If you have economic data on that to contribute (the cost of foreclosures, age discrimination, failed and recommended policies...), that would be great. Note that the article is political, as well, and is not a stub in that category. Your rating could be perceived as partisan, which could encourage vandals. I see the importance as mid and I do not see it as a stub, though I would love to see more economic data included. Thanks Oakbranch (talk) 04:52, 7 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hey, Forich. Thanks for the change on the class and for the rating explanation. Works for me. Oakbranch (talk) 07:45, 8 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi Forich. Sorry, but I rather sidestepped your articulate arguments about the applicability of the term civil war to the current conflict in Colombia in favour of brute force database searches. WikiProject Colombia collaboration

edit

Hi Forich,

I just noticed that you have changed your status in the WP Colombia to active, I also noticed your interest in Colombian history articles and I'm hoping that you interests coupled with your experience as an economist can provide me some feedback on something Im working on. After a discussion with another wikipedian about the content of List of Presidents of Colombia on being too complicated to read and full of misleading information, which was true, it prompted me to take some action and attempt do some changes and clarifications, specially because its not just this page that has misleading, unclear information, but every page relating to one of our "presidents", their vice presidents, first ladies, government ministers, elections, and the general way Colombian history is told in wikipedia in relation to its leaders and constitutional stages, and by fixing this list it can provide a guideline and backbone to fix and edit the relating articles and help in the making of future ones. So after a lot of research I have made some adjustments focusing on the constitutional presidents, like it should be, in any case could you take the time to look over what I've done in User:Mijotoba/List of Presidents of Colombia and give me your opinion, questions, feedback, and advice, it's hard to find other users from the Colombian wikiproject who may be familiar with its crazy history, and I wanna make sure that Im getting enough feedback before I make the changes in the actual page. Thanks. mijotoba (talk) 08:01, 24 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Roberto Fortich Mesa in 2014.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Roberto Fortich Mesa in 2014.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to [email protected], stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to [email protected].

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 01:35, 19 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • If you have already sent this message, it is possible that there was a problem receiving it. Please re-send it to [email protected] and let us know at the OTRS noticeboard that you have done so.

If we don't hear from you within one week, the file will be deleted. If we can help you, please feel free to ask at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 14:36, 6 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite

edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:34, 27 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

General Sanctions Notification

edit

This is just FYI. It should not be taken to suggest you've done anything wrong.

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

Please carefully read this information:

A community discussion has authorised the use of general sanctions for pages related to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The specific details of these sanctions are described here.

Broadly, general sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimise disruption in controversial topic areas. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to these topics that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behaviour, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. An editor can only be sanctioned after he or she has been made aware that general sanctions are in effect. This notification is meant to inform you that sanctions are authorised in these topic areas, which you have been editing. Before continuing to edit pages in these topic areas, please familiarise yourself with the general sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions.

WP:RSN lab leak discussion

edit

Thank you for attempting to summarize the discussion. For the moment, I am replying here, rather than there, in the hope of avoiding causing another slugfest over there. (though if one starts anyway, or if your assertion finds its way into a close, I might just post this point over there). I think you are wrong here:

The sources provided (New York Magazine and Infection Control Today) are not MEDRS. Editing medical articles require MEDRS, thus do not mention the lab leak theory based on Non-MEDRS sources

No, WP:MEDRS is limited to Wikipedia:Biomedical information. Per the content on that page, history, which would include a lab leak, is not Wikipedia:Biomedical information. Adoring nanny (talk) 19:43, 20 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Adoring nanny, great point. I have two responses: i) someone mentioned that Wikipedia:Biomedical information has little stature compared to the main policies, suggesting that it is somewhat like a work in progress. I did not verify that claim to be true. ii) Why would tracing the origin of a virus be history, instead of it being the conclusion of an epidemiological investigation. In the movie Contagion, the character played by Marion Cotillard was that epidemiologist, for example. Forich (talk) 19:49, 20 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
But WP:MEDRS refers to the page directly, in its own statement of when it applies. The situation is honestly a bit curious. If the statement of when something applies has not been vetted by the community, I do not know how the policy itself can be assumed to have been vetted. But at a minimum, it is definitely not clear that the lab leak hypothesis is subject to WP:MEDRS. Adoring nanny (talk) 19:58, 20 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
For example, if we assume that the content on the subpage is correct, then there is a strong case that WP:MEDRS does not apply. Additionally, the stated reason for WP:MEDRS (avoiding bad medical advice on wiki) definitely does not apply. Adoring nanny (talk) 20:00, 20 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
@XOR'easter, you brought the point that the page Wikipedia:Biomedical information was a supplement that had not been thoroughly vetted by the community. Care to respond to the above objections made by Adoring nanny? Sorry to bring the discussion here, at the RS Noticeboard it is too cluttered. Forich (talk) 21:10, 20 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Ivermectin

edit

Hi Robert, I'm concerned about the information bias on the Ivermectin page and can't edit because I have too few edits. I'm reaching out to see if you be willing to see this large research paper that substantiates the effectiveness of Ivermectin as a medicine for the prevention and treatment of Covid-19, which is a peer-reviewed Meta-analysis: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8248252/.

The medicine is listed as a parasite treatment only, in spite of its use over many years in anti-inflammation & anti-viral applications for which it has been used to combat Dengue, Zika, West Nile, etc with literally billions of doses.

Thanks for considering this correction/update to a site that appears to be managed politically.

Proposed deletion of Mentira (Karoll Márquez song)

edit

The article Mentira (Karoll Márquez song) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not meet WP:NSONG and there is no article about the singer or the album to redirect to.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Oye bonita moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Oye bonita, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. edit

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
