Dubai

edit

Hello DubaiTerminator, thank you for your comments. I am assuming that you read my user page. I should say that I have many exaggerations written there; but yes, I do like Dubai. Sadly, I have been disliking the city more and more over the past several months. I see the large number of problems that are being created as we speak, and I also see how the current problems are failing to be addressed (which are probably going unnoticed/ignored by the emirate's leaders). I also feel that the United Arab Emirates has so much potential for many different opportunities (including democracy among many others), but they fail to grasp them. Despite these sentiments, I still feel that Dubai is an amazing place. The forward-looking atmosphere that is so present in Dubai (and expanding to some extent to the rest of the Gulf) is something that I admire. I also praise Dubai for its demographics. It is very nice that so many people from so many different countries live in Dubai; something that I know will only provide a strong foundation for its future. There are many other things I would like to discuss, but I know that you do not want to read a book-length message. So, thank you again for your comments. I look forward to working with you in the future. Leitmanp (talk | contributions) 04:36, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Greg Sang

edit

A tag has been placed on Greg Sang requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Thingg 17:19, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Al Burj's name

edit

Do you have a source for this? I know that Nakheel referred to Al Burj as the "Tall Tower" for a while now. And if there are no official sources to back up this, then I do not think we can change it. But if what you say is true, I doubt that Nakheel would keep that name. I am sure that Nakheel would want something much more sonorous and indicative of the location. I am confident that the building's name will be in Arabic. Leitmanp (talk | contributions) 23:38, 21 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Aa true soldiers cover.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Your Opinion Needed........

edit

Your opinion is need for consensus, as to whether some new sections should be added to the article or not. While this is currently a hot issue on Dubai's talk page, me and User:AreJay are more or less on a deadlock on this issues of adding these new section, namely ...

  • Entertainment (Dubai is certainly a hub for concerts, musical shows, shopping festivals, bustling cinema's showing Bollywood and Hollywood's latest films and much more for the entertainment in Dubai, after its the sources of entertainment that attracts tourists to Dubai, or what attracts them, OIL ? )
  • Sports (Dubai is famous for hosting games from tennis championships to cricket from rugby to horse races that earn dubai alot of money and and it often got flooded by sports lovers)

  • Architecture (with sub-headings Skyline or cityscape and Parks , Its not any thing which is not famous, Dubai, no doubt have one of the most magnificent and fastest growing skyline in world, it have Architecture that are no doubt modern wonders of the world, the article should have its section, with main link to their main articles, after all can any one imagine the article of alexander the great with out his splendid conquests ?, so why Dubai with out its crown ?)

  • Tourism (Dubai is 8th most visited city in the world, and have several tourist attractions and events that attracts million of visitors every years, while all other most visited cities like Newyork, London, Bangkok have this section, Dubai's article is deprived of it, a section must be introduced by the heading tourism and their a brief introduction must be given with a main link to Tourism in Dubai. )

To give a summary of mine and User:Arejay's discussion, let me tell you that the above headings are suggested by me and they are also included in several feature article in wikipedia like....

These headings are strongly opposed by User:Arejay and thus we had a deadlock, a third opinion is needed about whether these headings should be added or not. I dont know why some one who is honest with Dubai's article can oppose addition of such an important section. To me its like you are snatching a crown from Dubai, one of the most famous cities in the world, the article really dont pay a due coverage to dubai, and rather seem to me an article of any ordinary city in Persian gulf ! Dear WikiProject Video games member,

You are receiving this message because you have either Category:WikiProject Video games members or {{User WPVG}} somewhere in your userspace and you have edited Wikipedia in the recent months.

The Video games project has created a member list to provide a clearer picture of its active membership.

All members have currently been placed in the "Inactive" section by default. Please remove your username from the "Inactive" listing and place it under the "Active" listing if you plan on regularly:

Ideally, members are encouraged to do both, but either one meets our criteria of inclusion. Members still listed inactive at the beginning of November 2009 may be removed. You may re-add yourself to the active list at any time. Thank you for your help, and we look forward to working with you.

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Systems Alliance Codex Image.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 16:36, 16 December 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Salavat (talk) 16:36, 16 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

It's going to get orphaned again. The article it's now in violates WP:NFLISTS. The amount of non-free images on it is extreme, and not supported by policy/guideline. --Hammersoft (talk) 02:40, 8 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

--The image does not violate it because it's being used to visually identify a certain subject. --DubaiTerminator

File:ShepardCommander.jpg

edit

As I previously cautioned, this image was inappropriate for Races of the Mass Effect universe, per WP:NFLISTS. I've once again orphaned this image. Please, do not attempt to shoe horn this image into some other article in an attempt to prevent its deletion. There simply isn't a place for this image on the project. The character has already been illustrated. There is no need for this image. Thank you, --Hammersoft (talk) 14:37, 10 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

--The image is NOT being used to specifically identify the character. It is being used to represent a "human" in the article. --DubaiTerminator

  • I understand that. That's not the point. The point is the mass number of non-free images on this article violates WP:NFLISTS most egregiously. You can't use per-character, per race, per episode, per album, per book, per whatever-non-free-item images to depict things on lists without a very strong reason for doing so, preferably one where the image is being directly used in support of cited discussion. I've reverted your re-addition of this content. If you want to include, plead your case at WT:NFC. Continuing to re-add the content in violation of WP:NFLISTS is NOT the way forward. If you have questions, ask. --Hammersoft (talk) 01:20, 12 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

--I hate to continue forward with this but I am only because what you have stated is false. It does not violate WP:NFLISTS because it only states that it is not advised, not violating. In this case it would be advised because of the difference in each section of the list. You're hammering down far too harshly on these images; you should soften up a bit. Like the pun right there? --DubaiTerminator

  • We don't include non-free content as you are wanting to do. You're looking for some element of WP:NFCC/WP:NFC that would permit the use you want. That's the wrong approach. You have to look at all of it, and if NOTHING is found that disallows the use, then an exception is made to allow the use. Non-free content use is the exception, not the standard here. If you really think I'm wrong, then ask at WT:NFC. --Hammersoft (talk) 14:07, 12 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • Removing warning tags, as you did here, when the underlying problem has not been fixed constitutes vandalism. If you persist in doing this, you may find yourself blocked. Further, the solution isn't to restore the image to any place where you have previously put it, as it is not an acceptable use as you have been attempting. Please desist. --Hammersoft (talk) 05:31, 16 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. File source problem with File:Theshepard.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Theshepard.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Regarding Sustainability_in_Dubai Wikipedia Page

edit

Dear Wiki user,

I just came across Sustainability_in_Dubai page and Wikipedia and wanted to further add relavant information. However, I am not a Wikipedia user and not aware of the procedure of becoming one. So thought of contacting you to see if I can pass on some related information, which can add value, and maybe you could add this information (after required verification) to the page if you would like. As the awareness and actions towards sustainability in Dubai have been picking up for the last few years. There is a grassroots movement in the UAE called Sustainability Tribe (http://www.sustainabilitytribe.com/), which was started 11 years back with a blog called 'Green Living in Dubai'. This blog was founded by an expert sustainability professional, Amruta Kshemkalyani who is still active in the industry with the aim of raising social awareness. Sustainability Tribe is an educational resource on all things sustainable in Dubai and also founded #ZeroWasteUAE Social Initiative. I think some positive stories like these from Dubai also need to be added on this page (Sustainability in Dubai) to get a complete view on the topic. So will appreciate it if you take an interest in this. Thank you for your time and help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.204.93.10 (talk) 17:57, 8 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Dubai

edit

Hi there! As part of my goal to clean up and revamp WikiProject Dubai, I've gone ahead and removed all members who haven't edited in 1+ years listed as "active" on the members page and moved them down to "former members". You are one of those members. If you think this is a mistake, or you wish to return to being an active member of the WikiProject, feel free to add yourself back to the active members section. Thank you! jolielover♥talk 16:58, 5 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
