Would you kindly explain to me what this edit summary is about? --GGT (talk) 22:32, 10 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

GGT There is use of pro-Turkish sources, that's all I didn't mean any offense just the sources are undue. Des Vallee (talk) 22:34, 10 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
The article talks about human rights violations against Greek Cypriots living in Turkish Cypriot-controlled territory, so I find this statement puzzling. Why do you think the sidebar is necessary? The article is about a group of people, discrimination against them is only part of the discussion. This is akin to adding the discrimination sidebar to the article on Jews because it discusses antisemitism. Unsurprisingly, my personal take on this is that this could be offensive to this group of people. --GGT (talk) 22:41, 10 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
GGT Hey, can we bring this to the talk page of Cyprus? I would love to speak their instead of my talk page, I can give my rational there. Isn't really the place to discuss here. Overall if you don't find necessary I won't revert and also lack much knowledge on the subject, however usually for statistics we only include controlled territory, the de-facto situation as an example Ukraine. I won't revert any further if only because to stop long painful discussions. Des Vallee (talk) 22:47, 10 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
This is a different article about the Greek Cypriots in Northern Cyprus. I have worked on such articles on and off for a number of years - if you say that it's OK for me to revert I will do so, as I am convinced that the sidebar is inappropriate. --GGT (talk) 23:03, 10 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
GGT Fair, for Greek Cypriots in Northern Cyprus you made your position clear. Des Vallee (talk) 23:06, 10 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in the topics of Kurds and Kurdistan, broadly construed. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

ANI comment

edit

Thankyou for your comment on the ANI against me. The whole thing wears me out. Especially the editor who maliciously attacked me for edits that were done 8 years ago. It is really galling that people falsely represent the issues in those edits in such a one sided way. The reality is that Category:American women novelists was created by a woman who wanted Wikipedia to shift away from an inordinate high number of articles on pornographic film actresses and show case instead women who were notable for writing. I did my contributions because at the time I did not fully understand the ERGS exception to categorization rules. The journalists and editors who engaged in character assassination against me did so on the odd assumption that it is better to directly and maliciously insult someone than to let stand a deep linguistic action that if you think about it a lot insults people, but you have to think about it a lot. Also note that despite the best efforts to muddy the waters American women novelists remains as a category. Sorry if this was too long. I just need to say some of these things.John Pack Lambert (talk) 23:50, 16 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Johnpacklambert Nice I do agree some consensual restrictions could be good, everyone makes mistakes and that's ok. Sometimes limited restrictions are good the proposed are possibly bad (only put in AFD's in my life), but trust me they are not as bad as they seem. And if you don't need them you could get rid of them in month. In fact you stating so would probably help, like "I will make an effort to do x" is the best system or you proposing something. Anyone keep editing Wikipedia and thanks! Des Vallee (talk) 02:46, 17 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Confusing indentation

edit

Dear Des Vallee, in this comment at ANI, it seems you are talking about the user Drassow, who used the term "manchild" ([1]). If so (great to be back on topic!), you might want to un-indent and bullet-point your comment, since now it appears as if you are speaking about Alexis Jazz. Apaugasma (talk|contribs) 04:18, 22 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Apaugasma Yea I mean Drassow sorry I am not caught up fully in this situation I will be clear that is just Drassow. Des Vallee (talk) 06:09, 22 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
I changed it, of course extremely minor not changing the meaning, thanks for telling me this I didn't know that it could be meant as not Drassow. Sorry about the possible kerfuffle. Des Vallee (talk) 06:15, 22 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Marina Colorized.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Marina Colorized.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Thespündragon 18:32, 11 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Beaver wars

edit

Sorry for my revert on your addition to Beaver wars. Thanks for adding sources. A bit of a nitpick though: On pages 33–34, van den Hout mentions a beaver building a dam in the Bronx in 2007, and a second in 2010. "the first beavers to return to the City in more than two centuries" is a bit different than "beaver populations in North America would take centuries to recover in some areas", which suggests that they already have recovered. As far as I can tell, they never have. Do your other sources give any indication that there is an area where they have beaver populations have (fully) recovered? That would be great news. Vexations (talk) 11:24, 12 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Vexations You are correct, Beaver populations in most areas (like the Midwest) have never fully recovered to before European trading for Beaver pelts, practically no organism has recovered to pre-Industrial or even pre-Human contact levels of populations. So perhaps there is some better wording. Anyway if we look at Beaver we can see that it is currently least concern and indeed beaver populations have steadily recovered since the 19th century (source) going from endangered to least concern, so many beaver populations have recovered slightly it's still however, extremely depressingly small compared to their original population. There are currently 6-12 million Beavers of an original population of 60–400 million. So I agree there should be some better wording as Beaver populations are still depressingly small to this day compared to their original population. Many thanks. Platypoda

edit

Hi, you seem to be continually reverting my edits on Platypoda on the request to merge into Monotremata. Instead of doing this, please contribute to the discussion in the appropriate way. Thanks. YorkshireExpat (talk) 06:36, 19 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

YorkshireExpat I don't think you are that familiar to Wikipedia but what are you doing isn't a move request. Please desist, I was reviewing the request only to find that not only is it not a move request instead being a glorified discussion but also the reason for the merge was completely non-sensical, I don't know if you know this but being a sub-order article on Wikipedia is not a cause for deletion what so ever. Des Vallee (talk) 06:40, 19 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Des Vallee It's not move, it's a merge. Platypoda does not appear to be an accepted taxon so why does it need a page? Anyway, you shouldn't just revert people's edits in this way. If they are 'not that familiar' with the ways of Wikipedia they need to have things explained in a reasonable manner. I would be happy to withdraw if you engage in a reasonable manner. Thanks. YorkshireExpat (talk) 06:55, 19 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
YorkshireExpat I am happy to help out, the main issue is that you didn't do a correct formatting. I fixed your merge request and added the correct templates. you didn't do the correct formatting or use any templates for the a merge see Proposing a merge on Wikipedia you need to include a template for the merge. You need to do this for two reason, one it allows discussions to be standardized and much more importantly it allows administrators to review merges much more easier as they can use tools that automatically brings them to these pages and even chime in. If you don't do this merge requests could set there for months, or years without getting attention which your merge request did because reviewing admins can't access it easily. Anyway it's now a merge request and users interested in evolution can not more easily get involved in the discussion moreover now people can see it hasn't been open for over two months. The one major issue I think is the merge rationale. I don't quite understand it, if could explain it here it would be great. Many thanks Des Vallee (talk) 07:23, 19 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Ok sounds good, I can immediately tell by the IP's, as they have clear knowledge of Wikipedia and come in and out of existence to either revert something give a warning or comment and then disappear, they also have to specific edits to be anything other then an obvious sock. I can tell users like Elsen is also likely a sock. Des Vallee (talk) 20:26, 4 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Reverted move of Makhnovia

edit

Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Your bold move of Makhnovia has been reverted because an editor has found it to be controversial. Per Wikipedia:Requested moves, a move request must be placed on the article's talk page, and the request be open for discussion for seven days, "if there is any reason to believe a move would be contested". If you believe that this move is appropriate, please initiate such a discussion to form the appropriate consensus. Again, please note that moving a page with a longstanding title and/or a large number of incoming links is more likely to be considered controversial, and may be contested. Note that such consensus is particularly required before moving a title with incoming links in order to create a disambiguation page at that title. -Thespündragon 02:51, 28 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Perfectly acceptable for two months, but regardless your move in my opinion is completely unfounded. Des Vallee (talk) 14:58, 28 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Battle of al-Hasakah (2022)

edit

DiB2014 has once again removed sourced info and its source and inserted his own unsourced OR/SYNTH in the results section of the article Battle of al-Hasakah (2022). I have reverted him and warned him that he already violated the 1RR ban by making 4 reverts in less than 24 hours, with a 5th soon after, which can get him blocked. I have also made him aware of WP's guidelines on sourcing, but I expect he will not respond and continue to push his own unsourced POV. Any help on this issue would be appreciated. EkoGraf (talk) 17:08, 5 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Yea that is definitely breaking of arb guidelines. The article is now extended protected but I suspect he may attempt to game the system by making a series of dummy edits, but for now the article is proctored, in my view he clearly understands the basis of the guidelines of articles relating the Syrian Civil War just does not want to follow them. Many thanks. Des Vallee (talk) 07:03, 6 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Many of your drafts that I'm looking at seem more like personal essays than sourced, encyclopedic articles supported with academic or journalistic references. You might consider maintaining a personal blog where you could share your ideas and theories because I don't think drafts like these will ever receive AFC approval and make it into the main space of the project without being tagged by the New Page Patrol. They are fairly vigilant. But it seems like you have a lot you want to say and share and a blog might be the best platform for this content. Good luck. Liz Read! Talk! 22:23, 28 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
Liz They were in fact very rough drafts that I made on the basis of an essay, and then with the intention of fleshing them out. Indeed very few of them have sourced info, just a basic skeleton, you may delete them all I am not active. Fundamentally however most information in these articles were taken from my time in University, and much of the sections of these articles were added in limited space, as an example the draft on Proto-Goedelic was inserted into the article Goedelic languages. All drafts I submitted were approved although I only submitted 6. Likewise the draft manipulation on language was made after I added a section on Slogan, particularly in context of propaganda. I don't necessarily understand what you mean by share, but yes I was very active on Wikipedia, I find the section on blog somewhat rude, specifically considering how much content I added to Wikipedia, but thank you I suppose. Interesting words

edit

Hi, I was at the Village Pump and I noticed that you used the word "irregardless". It's actually one of my favourite words, although it's not in any dictionary. You might be using it deliberately, but if not it's a mix of "irrespective" and "regardless", which are essentially synonyms for the same idea. Apologies if you are already aware of this, just thought I'd let you know. Best, MinorProphet (talk) 11:59, 15 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Grnrchst What are you talking about the articles mention mutual aid directly. Des Vallee (talk) 22:16, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
They don't though. I have gone through the sources you just added for the purposes of verification and can't find a single mention of "mutual aid". Never, not even once. The rest of the sentence is correct to what the sources are talking about (i.e. camaraderie among soldiers) but it also has nothing to do with mutual aid.
Can you provide me a direct quote that shows what you see in these sources that I apparently can't? Because right now it still appears to be either original research or a novel syntheses.
(This isn't to mention the ones you added previously. Which also had problems of being cited to information they didn't actually reference.) -- Grnrchst (talk) 07:26, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Introduction to contentious topics

edit

You have recently been editing articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, which has been designated a contentious topic. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Ways to improve Kansas Women's Bill of Rights

Hello, Des Vallee,

Thank you for creating Kansas Women's Bill of Rights.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Only shows one side of the argument, there is no coverage from the proponents of the bill.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Onel5969}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

onel5969 I added the proponent stated position to the article. When I first made the article nearly all sources of the coverage was negative, and on it's ramifications for trans people so the article focused on that. I added the stated reason for the bill from this source "Critics call proposed Kansas ‘women’s bill of rights’ sexist, transphobic," which has a paragraph explaining it's proponents. The article is really short and it should have been added. Many thanks! Des Vallee (talk) 15:58, 25 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Deletion discussion about Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence

Hello, Des Vallee, and welcome to Wikipedia. I edit here too, under the username MaxnaCarta, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence.

You might like to note that such discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. And, our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|MaxnaCarta}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Intersex

edit

Go on then, clarify my “misunderstanding of text” given that nobody assigned me a sex at birth. At best, if not already determined by scans, my sex was simply identified at the time of my birth having previously been determined at the time of fertilisation. Those individuals who may have mixed genitalia, do so because the standard foetus development was interrupted in the same way, for example, by those who suffer from Phocomelia. 86.189.234.69 (talk) 05:28, 21 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

I did not revert your edit, that was Roundish but I agree with their revert. Sex is most certainly assigned, I am intersex and I don't want to get into my gender/sex identity because it's complex. But sex assigned at birth in the context of an intersex perspective is often arbitrary, attempting to define someone with CAIS as an example as "biologically male" due to XY chromosomes is ridiculous when the phenotype of someone with CAIS is identical to a endosex female, the same principle applies with Sewer Syndrome, or with de Chapman Syndrome. You cannot define an arbitrary of biological sex because it does not exist, and in the context of intersex people is often arbitrary, sometimes assigning someone who is biologically closer to male as female, or closer to female as male, see Christiane Völling as an example. Even some endosex individuals were even assigned the opposite sex and medicalized off of it, I would recommend reading Definitions_of_intersex#Assigned_sex. Zenomonoz That's literally nonsense:
XYY syndrome is a chromosomal condition in which an individual is born with XYY sex chromosomes. Jacob's syndrome is today considered to have the most mild effects of other sex-chromosomal based conditions, causing no major developmental differences. Despite this the condition was heavily stigmatized due to a lack of understanding towards it's effects, and was incorrectly thought to cause severe developmental problems. John Money unsuccessfully attempted to treat XYY boys and men (ages 15 to 37) with a history of behavior/educational problems by chemical castration using high-dose Depo-Provera. The study failed with many participants suffering weight gain and some committing suicide, the case is often seen as a breach of scientific ethics.
is a near word for word basis of:
In 1974, psychologist John Money at Johns Hopkins Hospital experimented on thirteen XYY boys and men (ages 15 to 37) in an unsuccessful attempt to treat their history of behavioral problems with chemical castration using highdose Depo-Provera. The side-effects were weight gain (avg. 26 lbs.) and suicide. This was not a case of science “going wrong.” This was a line of research where people were actively involved in attempts to create a paradigm shift: an attempt to find “the seat” of violent behavior in biological entities.
