How was that vandalism? Although the edit was somewhat... off color, it was factual and not really a joke. I'm just not sure how to cite the book. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gigasuperbunny (talkcontribs) 18:24, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

Moving images to better names

Greetings. I've been going through dozens of badly-named images lately, nominating some for deletion and requesting name changes for others. I noticed you've done a lot of the actual moving. Since you seem to have more experience with this than me, I thought I'd ask you some questions.

If an image is used in an article, and I move the image while leaving a redirect behind, nothing seems to break. The article still displays the image, and clicking on it takes you to the new image name, even though the old image name is still used in the article text. Do you know if there's a bot that goes around fixing these? Or do you know if they even should be fixed? I notice that when I then move the image to Commons, deleting it from here, the redirect no longer seems to work in the article. (E.g. The article no longer shows the image.) Is there an automated way to fix this that you know of, or would I have to edit each article manually? Thanks, – Quadell (talk) 17:48, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi Cloudbound, just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled right to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. Hi. When you recently edited BBC Sport, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Salford (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

B&W Logo?

I believe this is the official Marussia Logo, not the black-and-white version. Any reason why you preferred the B&W version to the colored one? It just doesn't look as good. C1010 (talk) 06:25, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

I was hoping you would add the color version. My image editing skills are very limitted. C1010 (talk) 09:13, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

I notice

that you just sent over to commons some pictures that I had uploaded years ago. Before I understood the lack of freedom of panorama in the United States. Three of them,
• File:HMWashington1.jpg‎; • File:HMWashington.jpg‎; • File:HMPrinceton.jpg ,
are pictures of works of sculpture that are possibly still under copyright. It is possible that the Princeton one could be considered to be a picture of my kids 20 odd years ago, but I would not count on it. I'm not surer what happens next, but it won't be done by me unless I get some pretty good instructions. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 22:55, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Great. I have a theory, pounded into me by a series of hard wikipedia knocks, that "old art" means pre-1923, which these are not. However I posted them to share and am happy to do so. Carptrash (talk) 01:13, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

Thanks so much for the barnstar. I think you did some editing on one of my Mason City, Iowa pictures. That was a trip. Afriend and I drove across a good chunk of America and slept in the car in some abandoned building parking lot so that we would be there in the early morning. 25 years ago. I'd forgotten about those until your barnstar showed up. Tanks again. Carptrash (talk) 14:55, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

Marking free files as non-free

I don't have any idea why you're marking {{PD-ineligible-USonly}} files as non-free. English Wikipedia explicitly uses American law only for which fiels we can host here - British laws need not apply. Magog the Ogre (talk) 22:51, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

It is presently a mess and not at all consistent. Cloudbound (talk) 17:11, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
A lot of our files are inconstent (e.g., application of the {{trademarked}} tag). But that doesn't mean we should entirely remove the tags. Magog the Ogre (talk) 19:15, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
I believe they should be retagged as fair use, which is why I changed the licensing tags. Cloudbound (talk) 22:48, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
Right, but they don't need to be tagged as fair use according to Wikipedia policy (or for legal reasons), because they are public domain in the US jurisdiction. Why do you still think they should be tagged? Magog the Ogre (talk) 21:04, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
I don't think that files should be tagged as being used under fair use unless they are used under fair use. These logos are free in the US and should thus be listed as being free. Wrong tagging may prevent reusers from using the images (e.g. reusers in countries with limited fair use conditions may have to skip fair use images while keeping images ineligible for copyright) and it also risks making people change the licence into PD-ineligible which is very wrong since it may result in a Commons transfer, causing problems both here and at Commons. Besides, a wrong tag prevents people from using the images outside the article namespace, a limitation only necessary for fair use images. Also note that {{Non-free logo}} means that the logo is copyrighted in the United States, so that tag is obviously reserved for logos copyrighted in the United States and not for logos ineligible for copyright in the United States. --Stefan2 (talk) 00:19, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
And please immediately stop marking free images as having orphaned non-free revisions! It risks causing admins deleting history, for example higher resolution versions of free images. --Stefan2 (talk) 00:24, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
I've only tagged images as having orphaned non-free revisions when they are tagged as non-free images in the first place. Stop being so demanding. Cloudbound (talk) 16:16, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:S Stock concept.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:S Stock concept.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Acps110 (talkcontribs) 19:11, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

I don't understand your dispute of my deletion tagging. Many S stock images exist that are free, and anyone can create one by photographing an S stock train. Acps110 (talkcontribs) 19:35, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

I'm fully aware there are free images of S Stock images - I've uploaded several myself. The image you have tagged is of a concept image for the design, released before the stock entered service. Cloudbound (talk) 19:38, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
That's why it must go. It was a valid argument to say that no images exist before any S stock trains were built. Now, S stock trains exist, thus the concept image is non-free, and can be replaced with free images of the released product. Acps110 (talkcontribs) 19:49, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
I don't agree but will remove my dispute note as it could actually free up space in the article for other photos. Cloudbound (talk) 19:58, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

File permission problem with file 18thStreetA.JPG

Hi Cloudbound You just left some complicated message on my talk page about a picture that you thought was not properly sourced or tagged or something. I have no idea what I didn't do properly. I uploaded it for a friend because he didn't know how to upload things to the wiki. He gave permission as I said in the explanation. Can you just ask him yourself? He is the photographer and is here: User:GKoskovich. thanks Saudade7 03:27, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Okay, I just wrote him on the facebook, he said " Thanks for the alert — and thanks, too, for posting the photos. I'll get this straightened out." - I told him to write something under the licensing section. Does that sound right? Saudade7 04:18, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

  • 8 april 2012 69th Infantry Regiment (United States) ?
    • on the other hand it does illustrate, that a picture is worth a thousand words, by posting the wrong COA, everyone who subsequently looked at the page dident bother to read it and assumed that it was the famous unit of song and legend, and emedeatly started to "fix" it. wish I had caught it sooner. but I was trying to be retired Brian in denver (talk) 20:14, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Hey,

I see you've uploaded a transparent version of the Waterstones logo - that's cool, the one flagged for deletion was the only one available at the time for the Good Article stuff I was doing. The only thing I'd suggest is the new version really should be on Commons rather than Wikipedia, but some bot will do that at some point. I also saw you moved some images to the right, not a major thing but I only placed them on the left to avoid image stacking, which doesn't look good. Either way, article still functions well so cheers for doing this, RandomArticles||Talk 23:37, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
