Request reason:
Hi OrangeMike, I think there is a misunderstanding. I was reading the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine Wikipedia webpage the other day and I noticed that a lot of the information is out-dated and there is a lot of information missing. I attempted to include factual revisions that I made sure were all cited properly with legitimate references and sources. The current entry does not make it clear that school is actually one of the three programs of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine so I included that in the first line of the entry (http://casemed.case.edu/education/programs.cfm). I also quoted and cited the official mission statement from the school to emphasize that the school's focus is on training physician researchers. Under the "Reputation" heading, I included the reputation of the Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine by citing and referencing US News rankings, which is accepted practice in many Wikipedia entries for medical schools that are ranked by US News. I also updated the "Howard Hughes Medical Institute" sentence to include 2012 numbers and properly cited that information. Today, I was reading a BusinessWeek where they announced that IBM would be sending their computer program Watson to the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. After reading the article, I wanted to update the page and cited a local Cleveland newspaper (Plain Dealer, http://www.cleveland.com/healthfit/index.ssf/2012/10/ibm_supercomputer_watson_is_he.html). However, all these cited facts have been declared as spam, have been deleted from the entry by the moderator, and I have been banned from editing any Wikipedia entries. I apologize if my updates were viewed as spamming or advertising--that was certainly not my intention. I thought I was helping by updating the entry and including more factual information about the program. If you believe there is a conflict of interest because of my username, I choose that username because I was reading the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine page when I decided to join as a contribute to update the page. As for the argument that I was only focusing on the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine page, I just recently joined as a contributor less than a week ago, I would like a chance to contribute to other pages, as well. In the last week since I joined, there is no history of me spamming or incorporating inaccurate information. I have used Wikipedia extensively and would like to contribute. Regardless of the decision of this appeal, I personally do not believe the page should be reverted all the way back to its bare bones, wiping away information even before my edits. With all due respect, it now contains out-dated information from many years back and is doing a disservice to people who use or will use Wikipedia to learn more about a non-profit educational institution. The current page is now severely lacking in information and proper citations. I understand that my user-name gives off the perception that there may be a conflict of interest but I will ensure I maintain strict neutrality in my future contributions. Thank you for your consideration in my appeal.
Decline reason:
If you sincerely do believe that what you were doing was simply factual correction, then that is a very compelling reason why you should remain blocked, since your ability to view your own editing objectively is so poor that you are unlikely to be able to contribute in a neutral way. Adding very large quantities of content containing such prose as "A constructive partnership and mutually advantageous relationship has been built" and "committed to the advancement of biomedical research and clinical practice" is promotional editing, pure and simple. (And putting part of it in quotes makes little difference: Wikipedia does not exist to serve as a medium for organisations to promulgate the image of themselves that their PR staff wish to put out.) I agree the quotes of their mission statement and the information taken from their website do not contain neutral language. I was using information from their sources (their mission statement, their website, etc.) which undoubtedly will contain non-neutral language because their job is to promote their institution as you have suggested. I am a new user and now have read the guidelines and understand the rules that I need to follow. I'm glad Wikipedia strives to maintain neutrality, its very difficult to find sources and references now a days that maintain strict neutrality. I will strive to strictly use neutral language when editing if given the opportunity to edit again. It was not my intention, was a honest mistake and will not happen again.
Decline reason:
Unfortunately, this userid also fails the username policy as it appears to be related to an organization. You will need to use {{unblock-spamun|new name|reason}}
. I would highly suggest that one of your conditions of requesting unblock be that you will not edit the Cleveland Clinic or related pages because I don't believe the community believes that there is no WP:COI/WP:PROMO going on here - hence the delay in any action.
