New York City Meetup

Next: Sunday January 18th, Columbia University area
Last: 11/01/2008
This box: view  talk  edit

In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, look at our approval by the Chapters Committee, develop ideas for chapter projects at museums and libraries throughout our region, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the November meeting's minutes and the December mini-meetup's minutes).

We'll make preparations for our exciting museum photography Wikipedia Loves Art! February bonanza (on Flickr, on Facebook) with Shelley from the Brooklyn Museum and Alex from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

We'll also be collecting folks to join our little Wikipedia Takes the Subway adventure which will be held the day after the meeting.

In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and generally enjoy ourselves and kick back.

You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.

To keep up-to-date on local events, you can also join our mailing list.

Bit of help please

Hiya, I noticed you are up on the adoption page as willing to help noobs like me.

I am putting together some ideas for editing some articles but am running into a few problems (for example on Kaspersky Labs)

1. Persistent vandalism (by the same person, via different accounts and many IP's), what is the best way to deal with it (I can undo and leave a warning but what if they carry on)?

2. Someone is pretending to be me on the article talk page, is there anything I can do about it apart from revert it?

3. How can I cite a source when there is a "citation needed" tag on a particular sentence in an article?

Really appreciate any help, TIA. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamshud (talkcontribs) 17:44, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

In need of mentorship

Hi,

I saw your name over at WP:ADOPT.

I need the advice of an experienced Wikipedian.

I'm currently coordinating development of Wikipedia's Outline of knowledge, and I am having trouble making the Wikipedia community aware of that navigation system. We need more editors to develop it, and I need advice on how to recruit them.

I also need advice on the guidelines I've been writing for the Outline of Knowledge at User:The Transhumanist/Outline of knowledge. Is it good enough? Did I miss anything important?

My latest effort to recruit help on the outlines is a proposal for a contest between all of the country WikiProjects on Wikipedia (about 200 of them). This will be a very big event, and I'm not sure I'm going about it in the best way.

So you see, I've taken on a lot, and I need as much advice as I can get.

I look forward to your reply on my talk page.

Hello - I'm a newbe and looking for a mentor. I want to develop a series of pieces about celebrity investment culture and the celebrities involved. Like Dragons Den Duncan Bannatyne, James Caan, Trading Places' Luke Heron, Scott Fletcher, Tom Winnifrith etc etc. It is a fascinating area where these individuals have won huge followings among the investment community. I penned my first piece on Luke Heron and I am a little unstuck. I have asked for advice from the people that wanted the article deleted and I have sought their advice. One of them suggested I get a mentor - I would be very grateful if you would consider taking me on! (MyraSendak (talk) 21:22, 23 July 2009 (UTC)). I am keen to learn and develop as a contributor to this fantastic resource. I think I have a lot to offer - just trying to work at getting things right. (MyraSendak (talk) 21:22, 23 July 2009 (UTC)).
