Hi. I'm a little confused now about the logic some editors are using to apply WP:BIO1E in this article. The admin who reopened the discussion, A Train, said that the event BIO1E referred to was the media interviews, SMcCandlish said that the achievement of learning many languages was the event. I think that some editors are really stretching the "event" definition to the breaking point in order to apply BIO1E to this article, but don't know what to think because a few editors now have brought BIO1E to the table. Can you provide some insights in the discussion, specially relating to BIO1E and the applicability of "people involved in one event" in this article? Thanks in advance. - I think I already addressed this at the original discussion (technically at its talk page, here). In much more detail: "Event" doesn't have a narrow definition at BIO1E. It's not explicitly limited to concerts, riots, tournaments, and landslides. Importantly, some very broad, generalized WP:BIO rules are in that section, and are not tied in any way to "events" in the sense you've been thinking (like concerts, riots, tournaments, and landslides), and this proves that the meaning of "event" there is very broadly construed (i.e. something that can be put on a timeline and doesn't expand to such a big chunk of the timeline that the concept "event" no longer makes sense at all). Some examples of the general material:
- "Editors are advised to be aware of issues of weight and to avoid the creation of unnecessary pseudo-biographies, especially of living people."
- "It is important to remember that 'notable' is not a synonym for 'famous'."
- These provisions are frequently cited in contexts that have nothing to do with events like concerts, riots, tournaments, and landslides.
Further proof of very broad scope/definition of "event" is the fact that that same section addresses small "events" (in various senses) within the life of a bio subject, not just the role of a bio subject within some external event of much grander scope than the individual. So, an "event" can be an entire war (big), a broken ankle (little), the earning of a four-year university degree (little), a controversial Twitter post (little), the public controversy about global warming (big), etc., etc. For this particular case, I'm not sure it matters at all what you want to consider an "event" in the context of Perebal. There's just arguably nothing encyclopedic here. He got written up in a few Guatemalan sources as having learned 6 languages (sometimes exaggerated to 10), but this isn't any kind of record, even in Guatemala, and it was mostly just "gee whiz, this is odd for a guy who's a security guard". There's nothing likely to be lastingly significant about this alleged notability, which seems to be localized.
The overall arguments against the article are WP:N, WP:NOT#NEWS, and WP:NOT#INDISCRIMINATE. You could strike every mention of BIO1E in that AfD, and the deletion case would not be significantly weakened. (By the same token, adding BIO1E doesn't make it much stronger, either, now that I think about it.)

Ah, you Brits are so quaint. According to my quick online research, outwith is mainly Scottish and northern England. Is it used in other parts of Britain as well, or do you just like it because it sounds so 19th century literary?

- @Bbb23: "without" has taken on a more general meaning of "lacking" rather than the opposite of "within" over the years (I use it as the opposite of "within" sometimes and get baffled looks), so "outwith" can come in handy when you want to be clear, though it's not ever so common in my experience. Recent changes
- The MonoBook skin has been optimised for mobile devices. It now looks different. [1]
- Planet Wikimedia collects blogs about Wikimedia. It will now use the Rawdog feed aggregator to do this instead of Planet. [2][3]
- Redirect links in Special:WhatLinksHere now link to the original page and not the target page. This was done earlier and changed the used messages on some pages. This was a problem for wikis that customized the message. A new change fixed this by using the old messages with one more parameter for customization. Wikis that already changed their customized messages will have to move the customization back again. [4]
Problems
- You will not be able to edit some wikis between 06:00 and 06:30 UTC on 13 June. You can see if your wiki is one of them.
- MassMessage did not work 24–28 May. This is also why last week's Tech News was late. [5]

The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 5 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 6 June. It will be on all wikis from 7 June (calendar).

Guild of Copy Editors June 2018 News
  Welcome to the June 2018 GOCE newsletter, in which you will find Guild updates since the February edition. Progress continues to be made on the copyediting backlog, which has been reduced to 7 months and reached a new all-time low. Requests continue to be handled efficiently this year, with 272 completed by the end of May (an average completion time of 10.5 days). Fewer than 10% of these waited longer than 20 days, and the longest wait time was 29 days. Wikipedia in general, and the Guild in particular, experienced a deep loss with the death on 20 March of Corinne. Corinne (a GOCE coordinator since 1 July 2016) was a tireless aide on the requests page, and her peerless copyediting is a part of innumerable GAs and FAs. Her good cheer, courtesy and tact are very much missed. March drive: The goal was to remove June, July and August 2017 from our backlog and all February 2018 Requests (a total of 219 articles). This drive was an outstanding success, and by the end of the month all but eight of these articles were cleared. Of the 33 editors who signed up, 19 recorded 277 copy edits (425,758 words). April blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 15 through 21 April, focusing on Requests and the last eight articles tagged in August 2017. At the end of the week there were only 17 pending requests, with none older than 17 days. Of the nine editors who signed up, eight editors completed 22 copy edits (62,412 words). May drive: We set out to remove September, October and November 2017 from our backlog and all April 2018 Requests (a total of 298 articles). There was great success this month with the backlog more than halved from 1,449 articles at the beginning of the month to a record low of 716 articles. Officially, of the 20 who signed up, 15 editors recorded 151 copy edits (248,813 words). Coordinator elections: It's election time again. Nominations for Guild coordinators (who will serve a six-month term for the second half of 2018) have begun, and will close at 23:59 UTC on 15 June. All Wikipedia editors in good standing are eligible, and self-nominations are encouraged. Voting will take place between 00:01 UTC on 16 June and 23:59 UTC on 30 June. Recent changes
- In the Wikipedia app for Android or iOS users can create reading lists. The reading lists can be seen on different devices if you are logged in to your account. There is now a browser extension so you can add pages to your reading list from a web browser. At the moment it works with Firefox and Chrome. [8]
- There is a new version of Pywikibot. Pywikibot is a tool to automate tasks on MediaWiki wikis. [9]
Problems
- The MonoBook skin was changed to make it work better for mobile users. This caused some problems. The change was rolled back to fix them. The new version is now back on the wikis. MonoBook users can opt out from the new responsive design. [10]

User "RijonKhan"
This user falsely claims on his userpage to be a sysop of Bengali Wikipedia (I see no such credentials in Special:CentralAuth). His statements about being "with Wikipedia since 2015 but I started contributing in 2008 on Bengali Wikipedia & Meta" are equally false, as I suspect his claims of being a Wikimedia committee member and board member. I am convinced that he has copied another legitmate user's userpage content and passing it off as his own. Don't know if its just incompetence or intentional fraud, but either way I believe this could be grounds for a lengthier block. What do you think? --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 18:58, 17 June 2018 (UTC)

- Some old web browsers will not be able to read the Wikimedia wikis. This is because they use an insecure way to connect to them. This means that we get less security for everyone else too. This affects about 0.08% of all traffic to the Wikimedia wikis. This affects for example those who read Wikipedia on a PlayStation 3. [14][15]
- The new filters for edit review tools and interface for watchlists will leave beta. Because there is no new MediaWiki version this week it will happen on 25 June for most wikis. For the rest it will happen in early July. [16][17]
- All wikis that have not already done so will switch to use the Remex parsing library on 5 July. This is to replace Tidy. You can help fix remaining errors. [18]

- You can see how many pageviews a wiki had from specific countries. The Wikistats2 maps have now been updated. [21]
