Should we mention the low birth rate in the intro?

edit

The intro already has a lot of content about recent history and culture, most of which is highly laudatory. However, I think the low birth rate is a major issue and one of the most impactful recent developments for South Korea. It's the lowest rate in the world; per CNN it is expected to decline, the population is projected to fall to 1970s levels, and the median age is projected to reach 63.4 by 2072.[1] This will counteract some of the trends mentioned earlier, like rapid rise in GDP and a large impact on the global economy.

Current we should not, birth rates get only a small aside in the body. If sources have began discussing the issue with more weight in general coverage of South Korea (eg. impacts on the economy), this should be built into the body and the sources/body will make the case for lead changes. Sejong City

edit

I would recommend adding Sejong-si as the de facto capital of South Korea to the infobox.

The South Korean government has been moving ministries to the city ever since they have announced plans for a new capital (I could've not noticed a comment about Sejong in the infobox). Felleno (talk) 10:33, 2 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Seoul is by all means and purposes still the de facto capital of Korea. The centers of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches are still at Seoul. Also, South Korea is not moving the capital of Korea - they're moving the executive capital of Korea. Bluepotato81 (talk) 11:24, 2 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
South Korea is indeed moving the capital of the country to Sejong, currently they have relocated most of the cabinet and are planning to move the president there. Here is Korea Herald reporting on the decision to establish a presidential office in Sejong. A capital can be: executive, judicial, legislative or all three. If they moved the cabinet and other offices to Sejong, the city is the executive capital. Because the parliament and supreme court remain in Seoul, the city is the legislative and judicial capital.
There is no "leading capital" when it comes to authority over the nation. Both cities now have a significant presence of government agencies. Seoul is no longer the only capital of South Korea, there are many reasons for the eventual move of all of the government to Sejong. Currently, Sejong and Seoul are both capitals of the nation, almost indisputably and accordingly with the definition of a national capital. Felleno (talk) 16:31, 2 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
