Is Servo open source? What license does it use? There really needs to be more information on this project. If someone can point me at some references, I'll be happy to add information to the page, but I'm having a hard time finding much about the project, and the GitHub repository doesn't seem to include such info. - Apotheon (talk) 20:09, 1 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

It is open source, but I don't know what licence it uses. CWC 15:52, 19 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
A LICENSE file was checked into the repository recently, it's MPL 2. --asqueella (talk) 21:34, 4 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

After reading this, I did a google search about Servo and found some useful sources from last December:

Origin of the name

edit

I don't think it belongs in the main article at this point, but Brendan mentioned that the inspiration for the name comes from Mystery Science Theater 3000: "MST3K lives on in our hearts, and will provide further names" [3] --asqueella (talk) 21:34, 4 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Logo - source needed

edit

Is there any proof it's an actual logo?

  1. it's not used anymore - nor on GH, nor on official webpage
  2. when it was, it wasn't described as logo
  3. I highly doubt it's GPL picture owned by Mozilla, but that's just assumption — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.71.222.65 (talk) 01:38, 4 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

What’s still unclear in the article…

edit

So, did Firefox never actually switch to full Servo, but merely picked its working parts and put them in to Gecko?

I’m researching/asking, because I looked for an embeddable webview component for my program, and of course since I do not want to support psychopathic organized crime, using Google’s things is out of the question.
And people are telling me to not use Gecko but Servo.
But I do not want to use some experimental abandonware, even if I wish it was dominating. I want to use what Firefox does! (Basically, I want to create the next Phoenix, but with HTML5 as one of many inner platforms to run web applications on.)

So… It is unclear what Firefox is actually using and what that is called. Servo? No, due to abandoning it before it was finished and claimin it “always” was a research project. (I distincly remember that that was not the story back then! Even when accounting for false memories!) Gecko? Also no, due to added Servo bits. Then what? 2A02:3035:66D:9DAC:E5FE:3F6A:EBED:1808 (talk) 19:50, 27 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please remember that talk pages are not forums to discuss the topic of the article (WP:NOTFORUM), they are forums to discuss the article itself. It seems like you're raising a point about the article itself (given your topic title), but I would appreciate some clarification on what exactly you'd like to see fixed.
