Well, this information comes from the person mentioned in the article and who documented the work in question. Its an odd case, and the information seems more or less repeated from the primary source but that might be because there is one may only have one source, and that source someone directly involved in the matter being discussed. Much of the material about the artist Henry Flynt, the photographer mentioned here, is known through interviews and as such it is a matter of the validity of oral tradition. The subject is clearly contentious and notable, as a look on the discussion for the [Jean-Michel Basquiat] page will show. Perhaps this should be merged into that page? This page here offers a complete perspective in no way in contest with the ones presented in the Basquiat article (in other words, it includes the other people involved). what do people think?
- Well, the way this stub looks now my quick instinct would be to edit it and put it in the main (Jean-Michel Basquiat) entry. Normally a small piece of an artist’s oeuvre should not be published separately, but integrated in to the main entry, even if done under a pseudonym. [No one would want an entry for R. Mutt, the maker of the found object Fountain, because that object and the pseudonym are part of Marcel Duchamp’s work]. However, since the initial SAMO graffiti was done as a collaboration, there is an argument for having a separate entry. I tend to think that since Basquiat was the main force of the SAMO collaboration from start to finish a stub this short should still be included in his expanded biography. If an argument can be convincingly made as to the unique input of Al Diaz (or Shannon Dawson) into the SAMO graffiti then I could be convinced it should stay as a separate entry. Also, there is a lot of interest in graffiti and street art, which can unfairly overshadow Basquiat’s achievements as a painter. If this stub was expanded to a larger size concentrating just on the graffiti it might be best to have the details outside the main Basquiat entry for that reason alone. I’ll try to add the basics now, and others can see what they think. --76.15.219.211 (talk) 08:39, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
