I'll take this one Cavie78 (talk) 20:17, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
Lead
- "Aronofsky was enthusiastic of the story and developed the script with Selby, despite struggling to secure funding for it." Suggest rewording to "enthusiastic about the story" Also, it's not entirely clear what Aronofsky was struggling to secure funding for - the script itself or filming?
Plot
- "At the recommendation of a friend, she visits a physician" Suggest "Sara visits a physician" to make it clear who you're talking about, as it's a new paragraph
- "but the price is doubled and the minimum high" Suggest rewording to "but the price has doubled and the minimum purchase is high"
- "This request, along with their mounting withdrawal" Suggest rewording to "This request, along with their mounting withdrawal symptoms" with wikilink to Drug withdrawal
- "Sara's increased dosage of distorts her sense of reality, and she begins to hallucinate that she is mocked by the host" Suggest rewording to "Sara's increased dosage of amphetamines distorts her sense of reality, and she begins to hallucinate that she is being mocked by the host"
- Wikilink Miami?
- "buy directly from the wholesaler" Suggest rewording to "buy heroin directly from the wholesaler"
- "The shocked doctor" change to either "A shocked doctor" or "The shocked doctor who treats them"
- "receives even more" Even more what? Heroin? Money?
- Wikilink dissociated to Dissociation (psychology) and vegetative state to Persistent vegetative state?
- "Marion returns home from the show" What show? If you mean the sex show, I think you can just say "Marion returns home", if you mean the television show Sara was meant to be on, you need to say what she was doing there
Cast
- If Darren Aronofsky is uncredited, you need a cite
Production Development
- "The novel Requiem for a Dream by Hubert Selby Jr. was published in 1978." Cite needed
- "Aronofsky had been a fan of Selby's work since his college years." Cite needed
- "Aronofsky said" When did he say this?
- "financiers were not convinced on his next film idea" Suggest rewording to "financiers were not convinced about his next film idea" You should be clear that his next film idea was Requiem for a Dream
- "screenplay had once been written by Selby" -> "screenplay had been written by Selby"
- "as the film could be too graphic for audiences" Suggest rewording to "as they felt the film would be too unsettling for audiences"
Casting
- "Burstyn also spent time in Brooklyn, talking to women with a narrow outlook in life and emulating their speech patterns" I think this misses the key point in the source, that, for the women Burstyn met in Brooklyn, "their life is about getting enough money to put food on the table to feed their children, and that's it."
Filming
- "Filming last 40 days, and the locations were in and around" Suggest rewording to "Filming lasted 40 days, with locations used being in and around"
- "Burstyn wore two fat suits; each one simulating 40-pounds (18 kg) and 20-pounds" Suggest rewording to "Burstyn wore two fat suits; one simulated an additional 40-pounds (18 kg) in weight and one 20-pounds (9 kg)"
- "In a grocery store scene, real drug addicts were brought in as extras, whom Aronofsky recalls some were injecting themselves during filming" Suggest rewording to "During a grocery store scene, real drug addicts were brought in as extras. Aronofsky has recalled that some were injecting themselves during filming."
Editing
- "As with Aronofsky's previous film, Pi, he uses montages of extremely short shots throughout the film" Suggest rewording to "As with Aronofsky's previous film, Pi, montages of extremely short shots were used throughout the film"
Reception Box Office
- Ok
Rating
- Ok
Critical response
- "along with films similar to" Suggest rewording to "along with films such as"
Accolades
- "In a 2016 international critics' poll conducted by BBC, Requiem for a Dream was tied with Toni Erdmann (2016) and Carlos (2010) as the 100 greatest motion pictures since 2000" Suggest rewording to "In a 2016 international critics' poll conducted by BBC, Requiem for a Dream was tied with Toni Erdmann (2016) and Carlos (2010) at 100th place in a list of the 100 greatest motion pictures released since 2000"
Soundtrack
- What are you using as a cite for the first para?
Images
- Licences seem good. Small clip seems to meet fair use and helps illustration of the cuts used prominently in the film.
Sources
- Look good
A well written and well researched article on a great film (really must watch it again!). I've got a few concerns, but they're all relatively minor. Placing on hold for now Cavie78 (talk) 20:02, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
- Cavie78, Thank you for reviewing. I also hadn't seen the film in a while.. and I knew that this article needed improving! Anyway, I have addressed all the points above, with a few tiny word changes here and there. The only thing I couldn't find a source for was Darren Aronofsky's uncredited role (I found a source about his cameo, but not about it being 'uncredited'). What do you think - remove him from the cast or remove the word 'uncredited'? Thanks again. L150 18:52, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks Lizzy150. As far as the cite goes, I'd say that you can use the source that confirms his cameo and leave the "(uncredited)" note, as the main source for the cast is the film itself. When that's done I'll be happy to promote Cavie78 (talk) 20:10, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
- Cavie78, Great, this has been added. Thank you. L150 21:11, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
