Character on The District

edit
Quick note... in the District, Lynne's character was not a secretary, rather, she was the Director for Administration... hope that helps make this article a tad more accurate... bandg33k

Cause of Death

edit

A google search for "Lynne Thigpen" "heart attack" retrieves some articles that say heart attack and other articles that say:

  • apparent heart attack
  • apparently suffered a massive heart attack
  • allegedly a massive heart attack
  • He says he thinks she had a heart attack
  • a heart attack is suspected

Has there been an official autopsy? Or any official word? Kingturtle 03:35 May 11, 2003 (UTC)

If it's good enough for IMDB, then there should be some reference to it on here. Just don't wipe it completely from the bio.

I am reasonably certain that the Coroner's autopsy results are still pending. They will be somewhat more accurate than IMDB. Heart attack is but one possible cause. -- Someone else 03:41 May 11, 2003 (UTC)

Even this morning's Los Angeles Times said that the cause of her death had not yet been deterimined. -- Zoe 03:42 May 11, 2003 (UTC)

Personally, I used imdb to fulfill my trivial needs. I have no idea what kinds of editing process they have. What is their process? Kingturtle 03:42 May 11, 2003 (UTC)

imdb only includes what anybody off the street wants to put into it. All you have to do is become a registered user and you can update it. -- Zoe

Anyone can submit facts to them that are then included without much further checking. Just like here, sort of<G>. -- Someone else 03:44 May 11, 2003 (UTC)
Maybe I should sign up for imdb and remove the words heart attack from Lynne's page ;) Kingturtle 03:46 May 11, 2003 (UTC)

You probably should do that. I still dont see whats wrong with adding something about the heart attack though. It's not like you can't change it when the autotopsy comes out.

maybe like "Cause of death not known, but alleged to be a heart attack"

There's no history of heart disease, and no factual basis for believing it was a heart attack. It's not the only thing that causes sudden and unexpected death. Best to wait for facts rather than repeat unfounded speculation. -- Someone else 03:58 May 11, 2003 (UTC)
Any info on IMDb which is even slightly obscure is to be taken with a grain of salt. e.g. Sid Davis has about 20 films listed as producer--he produced at least 150 but probably closer to 180. Also, his production company is listed as Sidney Davis Productions, which it is not now and has not ever been called--it's Sid Davis Productions--and he's listed as being born in Hollywood CA but he moved there at the age of 4. Koyaanis Qatsi
KQ, you ought to write an article on him.  :) -- Zoe

absence of information should not mean its inaccurrate. wikipedia doesn't have any information on sid davis. If you refer to Kingturtle search results, they all returned something about a heart attack. So I think it's safe to say she more likely than not had a heart attack or stroke.

Find me one newpapaer which has attributed her death to a heart attack. -- Zoe

Some news agencies would rather get the information out there and correct themselves later. If someone wanted to do a school report on Lynne, im sure they would want to include something about what the death was alleged to be, even after we know the cause of death.

This is an encyclopedia, not a newspaper. I did ask for the post above, so mea culpa if now I have to object to it -- that is a columnist, not a news item. As I said before, the LA Times said just this morning that the autopsy hasn't been announced yet, and the cause of death is unknown. Why do you feel the need to jump the gun? -- Zoe

Many media outlets in the United States feel the need to jump the gun. How many times have we heard of chemical weapons finds in Iraq, only to find out later they weren't chemical weapons. The need to be first with the story compromises their integrity. There is no harm in waiting until official word is released. There is harm in posting information that we have to remove later because it is wrong. Kingturtle 04:32 May 11, 2003 (UTC)
Yes, 204.39.225.151, 204.39.227.248, and 172.148.44.28, you're really just trolling now. Don't StarProse, Annoying Users, Votes for Deletion and Vandalism in Progress need more of your attention? -- Someone else 04:37 May 11, 2003 (UTC)

172.148.44.28 is not me...i did not make those changes made by that user.

Must've been a confused AOL'er that you'd dazzled with your brilliant yet flawed argumentation, then. -- Someone else 04:56 May 11, 2003 (UTC)

This annoying person has been revealed to be Lir. -- Zoe

Good way of bringing in the singing angle...I just thought that when the opening line referred to her as an "American actress and singer," it left the impression that she had a singing/recording/concert-giving career, as opposed to acting and singing in musicals. Cafemusique 11:22 May 15, 2003 (UTC)

Seems a somewhat limited view of singing<G> but if it's clearer now, it's a good thing! -- Someone else 11:28 May 15, 2003 (UTC)

Books on Tape

edit

"While her later work emphasized acting over singing, her intriguing dusky voice made its way to over 20 socially-relevant books on tape,"

This statement ends with a comma. Was someone meaning to give examples of her books on tape or just gramatically deficient? MusicMaker5376 23:19, 11 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Neither. If you try typing while you are lying down with the keyboard on your belly, looking at the monitor on your bedstand, you'll find that (as Forrest Gump suggested) typos happen. <- a period, not a comma. ClairSamoht 06:58, 12 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, noticing it's still a comma. Perhaps some mention of which books she has to her credit would be apropros. MusicMaker5376 20:27, 12 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Minor revision

edit

I made a few minor revisions to the top of the article. Most of it expanded what was already in the filmography, etc. below.

This may be a little POV, but I liked her, and I was sad that the death portion of the article actually seemed to take up more space than her body of work. So I tried to add a bit more about her very long and illustrious career. NickBurns 02:49, 11 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hiatus of Bear in the Big Blue House

edit

While the article claims that Thigpen's death was the reason for Bear in the Big Blue House's hiatus, there's no citation accompanying this claim. Meanwhile, Noal MacNeal, the man behind the bear, has posted a video on TikTok debunking this claim. https://www.tiktok.com/@noelmacneal/video/6944786744097164549

This claim should be removed from the article unless a citation can be provided. 2603:6080:5A04:5F4F:9475:DDA8:60BB:D754 (talk) 20:42, 2 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
