Talk:List of longest cable-stayed bridge spans

Puente La Amistad Costa Rica Taiwan

edit

While the full lengths of this bridge is 780m, the cable-stayed longest span is only 260m so it's position in the list was changed to the proper position.

Definitive List of C-S bridges?

edit

If anyone knows of a good list please include it on the page as a reference. I haven't found one that is up-to-date.

Start with the most up to date one you can find, and then search through structurea.de to find any more recent bridges. -- Samuel Wantman 07:34, 17 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Freedom Bridge ("Most Slobode" in Serbian), built in 1981, destroyed by NATO aviation in 1999, rebuilt in 2005: - height of the towers: 60 m - length of the main span: 361 m - bridge length: 1382 m - number of cables: 48 - built: 1976-1981 - 30.000 cubic meters of concrete - 2.150 tons of concrete steel - 10.000 tons of steel - 6 lanes of trafic + 2 pedestrian - at the time WORLD RECORD in cable-stayed brigde science with cables in middle plane (more: http://sr.wikipedia.org/sr-el/Мост_слободе)

Architect: Nikola Hajdin, president of Serbian Academy of Sciences and arts: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikola_Hajdin

Picture (year 1981): http://vojvodina.srbija-info.yu/posledice/mostovi/sloboda_cela.jpg Pictures (before and after the bombing): http://vojvodina.srbija-info.yu/posledice/mostovi/most_slobode.htm Artistic pictures: http://www.dizajnzona.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=30547&mode=threaded&pid=385508

People ON THE BRIGDE during the bombing: 9; all civilians (since the bridge was never used by the army, it was a civilian bridge); all were rescued.

Before and after, pictures taken from the same place: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=404185 (somewhere in the middle of the page, at the end of first post; search for: "Most Slobode")

The bridge was rebuilt in 2 years and 22 days, with the cost of approx. 40 million euros. Academic professor Nikola Hajdin said that the brigde had no strategic role, that it was a city bridge, and that NATO destroyed it for no reason whatsoever.

Another bridge by professor Nikola Hajdin: New Railway Bridge in Beograde http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Railway_Bridge_(Belgrade) - 1928 m long - THE FIRST CABLE-STAYED RAILWAY BRIDGE IN THE WORLD, oppened 1979.

More about world-famous scientist Nikola Hajdin, professor of University of Belgrade, can be found here (and need to be translated from Serbian to English): http://sr.wikipedia.org/sr-el/Никола_Хајдин

New Railway Bridge in Beograde is among the largest cable-stayed brigdes in the world; it should be mentioned at the appropriate page. Freedom Bridge in the city of Novi Sad is the only cable-stayed brigde built-destroyed-rebult in the world. It now looks the same as it was before NATO destroyed it.
