Inactive Section
editDoes anyone think it would be a good idea to have an inactive section for people like (Spencer Fisher, Georges St-Pierre?) Lukejordan02 (talk) 04:15, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
- It would be too hard to keep up with. LiberatorLX (talk) 12:06, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

Strikeforce records under Zuffa ownership.
editSince we list WEC records under Zuffa ownership as part of the UFC record, we should do the same for Strikeforce records. I'm going to work on doing that. It will be a new thing for 2015.
- Personally I don't like the idea of showing a "Zuffa record" "or a "Zuffa and ultimately-bought-by Zuffa record" as part of a UFC page. I would wack anything that mentions Zuffa, or requires Zuffa to be mentioned. Wickorama (talk) 04:55, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
Should it be GBR or ENG?
editI have discussed this subject elsewhere but I thought I should bring it here. Why are British fighters not held to the same standard? When they are listed on List of current UFC fighters. English fighters are listed as GBR but Joanne Calderwood is listed as SCO I assume Americans are unaware the Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish are British too? Why the inconsistency? Alphabetizing "de la" names.
editI've been trying to fix the alphabetization and capitalization, and keep getting reverted.
Here is something explaining that "de" doesn't count as D, for Chris de la Rocha (not "De La") and Mike de la Torre (also not "De La").
One belongs at R, one at T.
Clear? InedibleHulk (talk) 08:39, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
- With Mike De La Torre his last name is De La Torre, not first name Mike De La... No edit war please. I am trying to fix the mistakes you made. Discuss here but no edit war. 72.187.46.255 (talk) 08:50, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
- His name last name is De La Rocha, not first name Chris De La. 72.187.46.255 (talk) 08:53, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
- The source beside his name in Heavyweights says it's "Chris de la Rocha". So does Sherdog. So it's the same as the "Zayas, Maria de" example above. Do you have anything saying "De La"? Mike de la Torre gets it both ways in the sources, but this guy is far more unanimous. InedibleHulk (talk) 08:59, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
- His name last name is De La Rocha, not first name Chris De La. 72.187.46.255 (talk) 08:53, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
- We will find out when he gets added to UFC.com 72.187.46.255 (talk) 09:11, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
- In the meantime, his wife would know. And his official website. Why wait? InedibleHulk (talk) 09:17, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
Fixed so the pages shows total number of fighters again.
editHopefully it is a good improvement, I think it is. 72.187.52.138 (talk) 11:10, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

Determining the sort number next to the record
editThe way I did this was to take their winning percentage and add it to their total amount of wins. If a person has not won a fight, I put the negative amount of losses they have had. A draw counts as .5 of a win and a no contest does not factor into their percentage at all.
Some examples:
10–2 = 10.83 | 10 + (10/12)
7–5–1 = 7.58 | 7 + (7.5/13)
4–3 (1 NC) = 4.57 | 4 + (4/7)
0–3 = -3

Ultimate Fighting Championship rankings
editThe following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
This page is over 400,000 bytes in size. Way too big! The rankings should be deleted here and people should be directed to Ultimate Fighting Championship rankings! — Preceding unsigned comment added by NICHOLAS NEEDLEHAM (talk • contribs) 15:30, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
- Given that another editor has also recently expressed concern about the page length, I've added a merge proposal based on this suggestion to better gauge opinion. Given that the content of this page is much broader than that is indicated by the title, I am not opposed to it. This is not an issue I am very invested in, though. Dancter (talk) 03:13, 18 January 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose - the ranking section only contribute to a very small percentage to the total size of the article which I have discussed that before with Neeedleham.. The total size of the article is because of the sources in the article which about more than 500 of them. There sources are there is to statisfy and adhere to the verifiable which is the core policy of Wikipedia.Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 07:59, 19 January 2020 (UTC)
- Support - although the article size is massive the more pertinent reason for supporting a merger is because listing the exact same data in two locations is redundant in this instance and I don't know why it was reproduced into this massive article when a dedicated article for it already exists. 156.204.250.28 (talk) 23:17, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
- Comment - Do note Ultimate Fighting Championship rankings has only one source and the source is UFC.com which means it is not an independent source, thus the article does not pass the Wikipedia notability requirements and should not be in the Wikipedia main space in the first place. The content of Ultimate Fighting Championship rankings should be merged into List of current UFC fighters instead. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 23:31, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
Sherdog
editI propose that the Notes/key be modified, amended, or clarified in the following ways:
- 2. All names presented are in accordance with UFC
websiteprofiles and may include common nicknames or alternative spellings rather than birth names.[note 1] - 5. Unless otherwise cited, MMA records below are retrieved from Sherdog web site.[note 2]
- 10. Fighters' age and height are based on information obtained from
Sherdog's websiteUFC Stats.
UFC Stats (formerly Fightmetric, acquired by the UFC) is a more reliable repository of the UFC's own data than UFC.com, and should be preferred for date of birth, height, and even names. UFC.com, as well as its regional variants, tends to resort to lazy hacks in order for the data to behave a certain way. Note how unlike on the UFC broadcasts, UFC.com refers to bouts involving Chinese fighters such as Song Yadong and Zhang Weili by the Chinese fighters' given names, rather their family names.
With respect to records and other information, it should be permitted to list correct data, even if it conflicts with what is currently listed on Sherdog Fight Finder, as long as the data is properly sourced and attributed. Furthermore, it should be permitted to omit incorrect, out-of-date, or otherwise questionable data, even if the data is what is currently listed on Sherdog Fight Finder. Back in July 2019, an editor tried to correct Ode Osbourne's record using Tapology as a source. It was soon reverted, with a comment added that "MMA record is as per Sherdog.com indicated in the Key/Notes section above and also as per WP:MMA guidelines. When Sherdog.com changed/corrected the record, then we will do so accordingly. As of now we put Sherdog.com fight record here." Although the Notes/key does indicate that records are retrieved from Sherdog.com, I have found nothing in the current text of WP:MMA that insists that any fighter data other than finishing Method be listed as indicated on Sherdog Fight Finder. Similarly, I have found nothing in this article's revision history or its talk page archive that indicates a consensus establishing the use of Sherdog Fight Finder as an ultimate authority regarding fighter data. To note, the edit correcting Osbourne's record was always valid, but the Sherdog Fight Finder profile wasn't updated until much later. I tried correcting the record myself recently, but was reverted out of hand, despite the fact that at that point—nearly six months later—even Sherdog had affirmed the correct record. Elsewhere on the internet, the sentiment has been that Sherdog Fight Finder ceased being the best database for MMA years ago, and I think it's time the community here reassessed the outsized status the site has here. Dancter (talk) 20:49, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- 'Oppose': UFC website does not have fighter nick name, no overall mma record (only UFC record). Info on mma infobox is a per Sherdog. Fight record is as per Sherdog as per WP:MMA Wikipedia guidelines. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 04:08, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
- You are incorrect. The UFC website does note fighter nicknames. Even so, that is irrelevant, since the site I am proposing to be used is not the UFC website (https://www.ufc.com/), but the UFC Stats website (http://ufcstats.com). Also, if you had read the proposal carefully, I did not propose use of that site for win-loss-draw (NC) records. You continue to claim that "Fight record is as per Sherdog as per WP:MMA Wikipedia guidelines," but have provided no proof, despite repeated requests by me. It is a simple request. Find the passage on WP:MMA that says what you say it does, copy it, and paste the copied text in a comment that you can point me to so I can read it. You can do it right here. Easy-peasy. Dancter (talk) 07:53, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
- We used UFC.com web site since 2006 here and mma info box info is as per Sherdog.com. If you want to ask for change go to Wikipedia MMA to propose. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 08:06, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
- This article did not exist in 2006. I'm not talking about abolishing the use of UFC.com throughout Wikipedia. My proposal is about this article. Again, show me where it says that "mma info box info is as per Sherdog.com." How does that even matter? There is no infobox here. That fact that you are not quoting any text seems to be a tacit admission that there is nothing in the guidelines that you can quote to back up your various claims. I should not have to seek project-wide consensus to change a policy that you have failed to prove to me even exists. The current version of the Notes/key was largely written by you, without much deliberation, and did not require the sort of project-wide consensus that you are demanding me to seek. At the moment, the changes I am seeking are particular to this page.
- While we are on the subject of scope of applicability, since you didn't reply in the thread you started on my user talk page, can you explain to me here why it is appropriate to remove Bullet as a nickname for Lucie Pudilová on her Wikipedia page based on a tweet from her verified account, while arguing that it is not appropriate to do the same on this article? Dancter (talk) 09:21, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is based on WP:V. Wikipedia will change the info when source corrected itself. Wikipedia is not about true but what is WP:verifiable - see WP:But it's true. MMA guidelines Wikipedia has been set up long time before you or my time. For this page, I disagree with the changes, as it has been working fine so far just you want to change one particular fighter and demand the whole page to suit your need an you did not maintain the page either. Do note stand alone list article same as normal article and sources need to be independent - see WP:STAND, UFC.com is considered primary sources and do not contribute to the notability guidelines requirements. For guidelines changes, you need to proposal the changes there. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 10:52, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
- Copy-paste. It is available on desktop operating systems, smartphones, and tablets. With the right accessibility tools, you can even do it hands-free. I can't imagine that you have been able to do as much editing as you have without being capable of doing that. Despite the impression you're giving that "Wikipedia will change the info when source corrected itself" is something that comes from WP:V, it does not. If a source is not correct about something, then it is not a reliable source for that thing. Wikipedia does not need to wait months for an unreliable source to correct itself in order to remedy a false or outdated claim—with Wikipedia promulgating the falsehood in the meantime—especially when the correct claim can be referenced with reliable sources. As for your invoking verifiability vs. truth: if you can show that I am pushing to include material that doesn't have a reliable source, then please do so here. As I already pointed out to you, in the very first subheading of WP:V: "The burden to demonstrate verifiability lies with the editor who adds or restores material." That text is a direct quote, copy-pasted from the WP:V policy.
- Whose behavior is more characteristic of a sense of ownership: me, or the editor who has more edits on this page than the next 4 most active editors combined, and in terms of text has contributed more than twice as much as all other editors combined, and is one of the most aggressive in terms of reverting edits on this article. Comparing a few of your arguments to examples in Wikipedia:Ownership of content#Statements: "it has been working fine so far" seems a bit like "I can see nothing wrong with the article and there is no need to change anything at all," and "an you did not maintain the page either" is pretty similar to "You obviously have no hands-on experience with this topic." Again, this is actual text from Wikipedia policies and guidelines that I am quoting.
- This is not about a fighter. Yes, this dispute was prompted by one particular edit, but one that lacks common sense, and the interactions surrounding it has led me to call into question a practice, which I am doing here. If a practice is shown to be faulty, then the practice should be changed.
- If stand-alone list articles are the same as normal articles, then why are you treating them differently, as in the example I just cited in my previous comment? "Sources need to be independant" — Tapology is independent. The Twitter thread you yourself cited in the HTML comment embedded in the Lucie Pudilová infobox documents Pudilová's interaction with Tapology, in which the site independently verifies her claim.
- What I am trying to propose does not entail a guideline change, because despite all the WP pages you've tossed around, you have not proven that my proposal conflicts with any existing content guideline.
- What does notability have to do with this? First you note an inadequacy of UFC.com as "UFC website does not have fighter nick name" (which is not true), then in your next comment defend its usage as "We used UFC.com web site since 2006," then state that "UFC.com is considered primary sources and do not contribute to the notability guidelines requirements." Regardless of what you are getting at with this, for which I have no idea, this does demonstrate some understanding on your part that reliability is dependent on context, and that sources that are reliable in some respects are unreliable in others. This applies to Sherdog as well as UFC.com. Dancter (talk) 17:04, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
- UFC.com doest not have fighter nickname. what you point out is the UFCstat site. which is not the same of I have mentioned. Notability is the primary of what an article to be accepted in the main space in Wikipedia. The thing I dont understand is that you dont maintain the page at all and you have not idea how much to update the info for all the interested reader to read the info which is in the thousand. We the mma editors here are trying to cooperate with each other and not because of one fighter from Thailand which you want to change the nickname/real name and suggest for the entire 600+ fighters to be changed - I am not getting personal with you Dancter but you seem getting personal on this but why do you tyring to help up to update/edit instead of spending so much effort and time to on fighting this. This is just tiring. I edit and created fighters' pages irregardless where they are from, how good their skills are as long as they pass the notability guidelines in Wikipedia which I have create I think around 200. I do this volunteer work for the good of sharing info and a give back to Wikipedia of what Wikipedia has given and. Please of heaven sake, to cooperate instead of doing all this. if you want, I pass all the daidly 600+ fighter updating to you, for upcoming fights, results of recent fighters, suspension, courts/controversies, title bout, new signing, releases/retirement, rankings, fighter in/out of origin countries, top 5 for 13+/- categories awards for all the 12 divisions. By the way the article has all sub heading and has been know by admins a or two years ago and they put in large files catogory already. So dont need to split and that is the reason why I removed the tag. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 08:11, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

This page should be split
editThis page exceeds Wikipedia's Template post-expansion include size.
There are three obvious solutions:
The easiest is to remove content from the page.
Another straightforward option is to split the page.
Finally, re-coding some of the templates to be more efficient or rewriting them as modules should help.
It makes the wiki-markup a bit "ugly" but replacing Template:Flags with a direct call to Module:Flags might help some. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 03:40, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- Reduced content by 781K bytes - see here. Cassiopeia(talk) 06:54, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- Agreed, this page is too long. It is 329,801 bytes. A list or table should be kept as short as is feasible for its purpose and scope. Too much statistical data is against policy. Long pages can take too much time to process for mobile browsers, if they can be fully loaded at all. When using slow connections, e.g., a desktop computer with an analog modem dial-up or the wireless connection of some mobile devices, long articles can take too much time to load. Isaidnoway (talk) 01:00, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
- Reduced content 288K bytes - [2]. Cassiopeia(talk) 04:25, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
- Still too long to read and navigate comfortably, and I'd appreciate it if you would stop removing valid clean up tags from this article. Too much statistical data is against policy. Thanks. Isaidnoway (talk) 10:15, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Isaidnoway and Davidwr: After the changes, according to the parser marking data, currently the Post-expand include size is 1,322,401/2,097,152 bytes, so hopefully this page is satisfiable. HeinzMaster (talk) 14:51, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
- Further reduced file size to from 328,656 bytes to 207,915 bytes. By the way, 2 admins had previously noted about the length and size of the file and have recorded it. Cassiopeia(talk) 09:52, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

Women's Featherweight division missing from Rankings?
editApologies if I'm missing something, but is the Women's Featherweight division missing from the Rankings section?
I see Strawweight, Flyweight, and Bantamweight, but not Featherweight.
If I'm not mistaken, the Featherweight division has existed in Women's MMA for years. The title is currently held by Amanda Nuñes.Chillowack (talk) 05:53, 27 December 2022 (UTC)
- Chillowack Good day. There are only 8 women's featherweight fighters in UFC. Thus there is no ranking for women's featherweight. Cassiopeia talk 06:06, 27 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you very much Cassiopeia!Chillowack (talk) 08:43, 27 December 2022 (UTC)

Debuted Countries of origin
editSo I was looking at the upcoming card this weekend and wanted to see if it was a first for an Indian fighter, and it will be, but I was a little surprised to see it will also be a first for an indonesian as well, which led me to see that this says only 2 people from Ireland have apparently ever fought in the ufc, which just off the top of my head I know is not correct, because I can count 4 just from memory, mcgregor, garry, joe duffy and paddy holohan. So my question here is, just how accurate is that? Is it only active fighters? WoeIsLee (talk) 17:32, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
- WoeIsLee Good day. Pls note that the list is for the "current" UFC fighters and for those who have not fought for the last two years will not be appeared in the list - pls read Notes/key section. Secondly Paddy Holohan last fight in UFC was 2015, thus he is not in the list. Lastly, the info is as per source Sherdog.com (pls read the Ky/Note section).Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 23:35, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
- Ahhh its only for current fighters, makes sense now.
- Although it would be cooler to see an all time list, just a thought. WoeIsLee (talk) 17:03, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
referencing problems
edit@Cassiopeia: your edits introduce an egregious number of referencing errors, which frequently place this article on the Category:Pages with broken reference names list, and also leave dozens of items in the article unreferenced. Do you need some help understanding how referencing works on Wikipedia so these problems can be avoided? -- Mikeblas (talk) 15:21, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
- Mikeblas Thanks for the message. Since this is a fighters' page, the bout match up and the fight results would usually involved 2 fighters (let's say fighter A and B). Thus, one of the fighters reference would be "reuse ref". When one of the fighter (A) has new fight, the matchup would be with different fighter (C), and I would only change fighter B and C info plus reference and sometimes if the ref fighter B is a "reuse ref" then the ref become unreferenced or broken since reference for fighter A has changed. To say all that, this is a list of bout match up and results, which means the info change daily for bout announcements and weekly for fight results which I have done most of the updates for the past 5 years, so then the info is not permanent, so such, I dont change/update the info of the "reuse ref" reference. However, in Wikipedia, there is a bot (AnomieBOT) - see examples here - - here-1 and [ https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_current_UFC_fighters&action=history here-2] always do the clean up (retreat the "reuse ref" info about twice a week. I am not sure is that any script I can use to do the bot's work. If you know, pls let me know. Be safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 23:27, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thing is, AnomieBOT doesn't always make a correct fix. And isn't guaranteed to make all the necessary fixes. You can see that I've had to make fixes for errors several times in this article because of editing that introduces new errors. -- Mikeblas (talk) 00:16, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
- Bot might not fix everything, but all the refs would be temporary and they will replaced again by new ref of new info and this cycle will continues as long as UFC is existed. Cassiopeia talk 01:36, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
- Please take more care in making your edits -- I've again fixed several referencing errors you've introduced. -- Mikeblas (talk) 16:33, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
- I agree with Mikeblas. Please take care of your edits. If you are replacing a "ref name", please change the other "ref name /" to "ref", or put the entire link/source of one "ref name" to the other, so that you do not require the BOT to retrieve the article. You have been editing for years and should know this by now.
- For example:
- - < ref name Jack vs John > "title Jack defeats John - author: Mike Bohn, etc"
- Jack has < ref name Jack vs John > and John has < ref name Jack vs John / >
- Jack has a new fight booked vs Dave.
- Your task:
- Jack < ref name Jack vs Dave >
- Now* You MUST copy "title Jack defeats John - author: Mike Bohn, etc" and put it after John.
- John now has < ref >"title Jack defeats John - author: Mike Bohn, etc"
- - Does this make sense? By doing this, the reference stays with John despite Jack having a new fight booked. I know English is not your first language judging from the reply and failure to understand the post originally made, but you should be able to understand this after years of editing. If you have further questions, please reply here. Marty2Hotty (talk) 17:37, 4 November 2024 (UTC)

- I agree. I made another post below this thread to support what you wrote to help the user in question. Marty2Hotty (talk) 17:38, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
