was Gavin the The U function early 1990s
editWhen Gavin sings if he had it all again he would change it all what does he mean There is a slight possibility that Gavin is a previous U function I was tied to a chair though he sings about a wheel He may have kind awareness of what the right course of action is
Gavin if Gavin Rossdale is a previous U function I urge Gavin Rossdale to write to treon3verdery at yahoo.com with what your revealed wisdom suggests you would change it all again "to" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.211.132.73 (talk) 19:33, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Rossdale mother's name?
editFolks, this article and some other pages says Gavin's mother's name is Lucy, but at some other sites, even the articles in portuguese and espanish reffer to her as Barbara Stephan. Which is the correct name?
Bisexual or Ambiguous?
editIn "Take It Like a Man," Boy George states that Gavin Rossdale used to date his drag queen best friend Marilyn. This was written, I assume, before Bush got popular. Maybe it's another Gavin Rossdale, but do you know if it's him? Is he bisexual or was he experimenting? Do you think Gwen Stefani knows or cares about it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chumley41 (talk • contribs) 01:53, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
It's the same Gavin Rossdale, but I don't know if they were anything more than friends. Either way, he's never mentioned Marilyn.Sposato (talk) 04:06, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
In an interview for Rolling Stone, Steven Daly asked about Boy George's book describing Gavin as the boyfriend of Marilyn.[1] Gavin replied, "That's George's take - he doesn't know me.... There's a queue of people going to their lawyers about stuff in his book. I hope he manages to sell some books by putting my name in there." The answer sounds like a denial as to "boyfriend" at least, but is technically neither a denial nor a confirmation. It might be deliberately ambiguous in a David Bowie way, but is more likely a statement about taste: in the same interview he distanced himself pointedly from the fights over "ludicrous macho stuff" among some of his former teammates in semi-pro football/soccer, and he ridiculed stereotypical straight pseudo-machismo in the song "testosterone" on Sixteen Stone. In a radio interview, a male DJ gushed about envying how much fan mail Gavin must be receiving from smitten women, and Gavin made a point of replying that he received the same from men too; in the context of the time, he was publicly rejecting homophobia and assumptions of heterosexuality. Otherwise, I don't know anything other than that Gavin and Marilyn were part of the same London social scene in the 1980's including Leigh Bowery's club Taboo, which is described in the musical Taboo (musical). (I saw the musical but alas missed the club, which seems to have been the closest thing to what the glam scene had been in the 1970s.) My guess is that his friendship (or whatever) with Marilyn and Taboo reflected a shared cultural sensibility (creative, alternative, countercultural). Gwen was on tour with Gavin when the RS interview ran, and I think they were already dating, so she probably knows the whole story (whatever it is); as for whether she cares, they have since been married and had a child, another on the way...TVC 15 (talk) 06:29, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- Marilyn has since confirmed this, although Gavin has not. 193.111.24.181 (talk) 16:14, 24 April 2009 (UTC) [2]
I've added some sources and aligned the statements to match them. I'm not entirely sure though whether it belongs in the bio per WP:BLP. The InTouch article says the affair "spanned the early ’80s"[3]; the print article says they met in 1981 when Gavin was 16, but seems to exaggerate some details, e.g. saying Marilyn looks like Gwen. Anyway the online publicity photos are good.TVC 15 (talk) 20:12, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
Grunge
editIve put him under Grunge because his band in the early days were Grunge i hope thats ok? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.96.254.143 (talk) 14:02, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
Rossdale/Cobain
edit"In particular, Rossdale's throaty singing voice and random, stream of consciousness-style lyrics were dismissed as a pale imitation of Nirvana's lead singer, Kurt Cobain."
Yeah, like Cobain invented it. Nirvana were a copycat band and Cobain was the biggest plagiarist of all (Pixies, Killing Joke, Neil Young etc etc). 86.17.210.229 11:41, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
- To be fair, even though I think it's nonsense, I can't remember the last time Bush came up in a conversation and they weren't mentioned as being "Nirvana-lite." I'm personally more stuck on "Rossdale modelled briefly, producing some embarrassing fashion shots with good friend Marilyn." Why embarassing? Really needs a source to avoid coming off like veiled bigotry (Marilyn is a cross-dresser). 63.249.109.88 14:36, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Tidy Up
editThis article stank of Nirvana fan. I've attempted to remove the PoV, and tidy the article up, but it's still poor. 86.17.210.229 11:41, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
Year of birth
editWhy does that link to the Westminster study page say that Gavin's year of birth was 1965 when many sources said it was 1967? 64.53.209.169 20:36, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
I wondered about that too but Westminster, IMDB, and NNDB all say 1965. He attended Westminster, so the school probably has reliable records. IMDB and NNDB are usually reliable, too. So, I believe it's 1965.TVC 15 (talk) 07:31, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Gavin Rossdale was born 10/30/1967. The Westminster page is wrong as are other sources that state that it was 1965. He did an Article for YM Magazine in October 1997 with the headline "Gavin turns 30". Unfortunately due to the common rational stated above inaccurate information has permeated the internet. A simple check of his website or other fan websites (that have been running for more than 10 years) will show that he was born in 1967. IMDB gets their information from the internet, not reliable sources 7/12/08 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.90.99.126 (talk) 16:51, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
Gavin Rossdale was born in 1965. I was at Westminster School from 1980-84 and have a School List for the Play Term 1981 (i.e. September - December) when I was starting my second year and which details the Date of Birth, Entry Term, House and Present Form for all pupils.
Gavin Rossdale's entry is given thus:
DOB: 30.10.65 Entry Term 1979-1 (which means he arrived in January 1979) House: Ashburnham Present Form: VI (Sixth form)
This would indicate that Rossdale was 13 years old when he started at Westminster which is in line with the vast majority of pupils in the private school system. If, as has been stated on this page, and as indeed the singer himself has claimed, Rossdale was born in 1967, then that he would make him just 11 years old on entry to the school. This is extremely unlikely and if it had been the case I'm pretty sure the vast majority of his contemporaries would have been aware that their fellow pupil was two years their junior. I'm still in touch with a number of them and would be delighted to make enquiries...
What is more likely is that on achieving a particular level of fame Rossdale decided to shave a couple of years off his age so that he might appear slightly more youthful. This sort of manipulation is certainly not unprecedented in the world of celebrity. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Denton31 (talk • contribs) 14:17, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
His birth date has been and will always be October 30,1967. I have known this for the past 13 years because that is when I became a Bush (the band) fan and learned a whole lot about the band. I have especially remembered Gavin's birthday because i use it when i am setting up accounts. And hello even wikipedia has it under 1967, take a look under the date October 30. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.140.58.8 (talk) 21:48, 15 December 2008 (UTC) I'm sorry but he was not born in 1967. I was at school at the same time as him, you were not. You simply believe what you choose to believe. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.69.71.118 (talk) 08:47, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

editAnyone know if the Mouth video was released on a DVD collection? Artemisboy 21:48, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

Gear
editAnyone think a section about what musical equipment Rossdale uses would be a good addition to this article? I don't know a lot about what he uses/has used. Except that he was big into Fender Strats during Bush's first run and was using ESP guitars while playing in Institute. -hsxeric talk 01:00 5 May, 2012
Disputed: Fate and Fiction of Gavin Rossdale
edit1. Gavin is not a solo performer anymore, and does not perform both Bush and Institute songs during his solo concerts. He does not have solo concerts. Gavin is currently touring with Bush, performing songs from the band's catalogue.
2. His mother did not remarry and move to Tampa, Florida. She did not live in Tampa, Florida. This fact is not cited, and has no factual evidence behind it.
3. The band Rossdale was in at 17, Midnight, was not formerly known as Little Dukes according to Gavin. This is inaccurate.
4. Gavin never wrote songs for Taylor Momsen's band The Pretty Reckless, and the two never toured together. This information is not cited by any source, and is again, untrue.
5. Gavin never acted in Mayor of the Sunset Strip (2004). This information is not cited and not true.
6. The biggest discrepancies exist in the section titled "Personal Life." Rossdale never cut off all contact with his teenage daughter. The articles cited with this information contradict each other, with article 20 in the reference section claiming he cut off all contact, while articles 21 and 22 both state that he still communicated with Daisy via email and they have since built a stronger relationship. There are pictures of Daisy with Gavin's son Kingston, proving just how incorrect this information is.
7. Reference 25 appears to have been an article in Rolling Stone, but is now a dead link. Any information that is factually dependent on that article should be removed from Gavin Rossdale's wikipedia page immediately.
Relationship with Courtney Love
editNo mention of his relationship with Courtney Love? Apparently it was pretty serious, and he proposed marriage. (Courtney reportedly threw the ring into a river and that was the end of their relationship. He resumed a relationship with Gwen Stefani shortly thereafter.) I don't know if he's ever confirmed it, but Courtney has confirmed it in interviews. It's at least as well-cited as his relationship with Marilyn. (The guy sure likes blonde rock star women/pseudo-women!) 208.65.73.105 (talk) 13:48, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

Eight year breakup?
editI suspect Bush, and not their breakup, lasted 8 years. So, "Following Bush's separation in 2002, which lasted for eight years, he was the lead singer" changed to, "He was the lead singer of Bush, which lasted for eight years until its separation in 2002, whereupon he became the lead singer" Anarchangel (talk) 16:51, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

Bush aren't a grunge band
editYes, the group was often compared to Nirvana, but that doesn't automatically mean that Bush weren't a grunge band. To me, they weren't. Bush was more of an alternative rock (some would even say hard rock or nu-metal) type of band. They had more in common with Smashing Pumpkins, Limp Bizkit, Alice In Chains, Dream Theater, Faith No More et al. than they did Nirvana. I've decided to remove the grunge tag, as it is a bit of an overstatement and does not have anything to do with Bush's sound whatsoever. 2601:C6:8480:1F10:D0DD:884F:2B8C:D583 (talk) 13:54, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
