"Air launched air-to-surface missile"?

edit

isn't that a bit redundant? can you have an air-to-surface missile that is not launched from the air? 99.243.190.68 (talk) 23:44, 1 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Good point, thanks for the comment. Air-launched has been removed.Brucelipe (talk) 21:09, 4 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Significant Additions

edit

I commend prior authors and editors as they did good work given the sources they used. One of the problems in researching history is that an error, once in writing, becomes an accepted “fact.” An appellation which it may not deserve.

The Rascal was a guided missile project from the beginning of the atomic age. It underwent many significant changes in its mission, specifications, performance required and the aircraft intended to carry it. This article left much to be desired in explaining the origins and development of the missile.

The MX-776 program, like all missile programs of the era, is difficult to research. The Rascal was a significant program in an era where the whole subject of guided missile development was obscured by secrecy. It is typical of missile programs in the 1940s and 50s that press coverage was vague and scant until a last frantic attempt to keep a dying program alive. Missiles were developing very rapidly and failures were quickly forgotten. Thus the official histories of any missile are a vital source.
