Are we sure the "I" in EFIS stands for "Information", and not "Instrument" ?

I doubt "I" was mistakenly taken as "information" instead of "Instrument" too. I don't find the origin of "EFIS", but in FAA site http://www.faa.gov/library/manuals/examiners_inspectors/8400/hbat/media/hbat9810.doc, it calls electronic flight instrument system EFIS, though also in FAA site http://www.faa.gov/airports_airtraffic/airports/resources/acronyms/#e, it is "EFIS -- Electronic Flight Information Systems".

I knew "EFIS" from Boeing aircraft manuals, and "I" is refered as instrument exclusively. --Natasha2006 15:15, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

the two can be used interchangeably and mean the same thing... It is not possible to have a system which fits to one of the descriptions and not the other, unless one of the descriptions of the system are incorrect...

Amalgamation of this page with Electronic Flight Information System page

There is much overlap between these pages. One page could cover the topic.

To start the ball rolling, I have prepared a major edit for this page. It covers nearly all the content of the existing "Instrument" page, together with some content of the "Information" page.

Initially I have leaned a little towards theory. There is a need to add something about the sensors that feed the EFIS.

The revamped page could include descriptions of some typical display details. Ideally, this part of the topic would use lots of pictures. I have none, hence the links to brochures, etc.
