Possible source material

edit

If it would help, I may have found a viable source in this article in Anime News Network's encyclopedia. Here is the link to the source:

Lip synch

edit

Was the lip synch animation designed for Japanese voices or English ones? I would normally assume Japanese but I ask because I saw the Japanese version and the lip synch just didn't seem to match (which is the main reason I don't like English dubs). It might just be bad in both cases but leaves me wondering. Ham Pastrami (talk) 09:47, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

It appears to be synced to the Japanese dialogue, but it appears to be timed poorly compared to the English track. If you lip-read the characters they're forming the sounds for Japanese. I'm with you on English dubs on Japanese films, in general the dubs are usually substandard compared to the original, but in this case the English track was rather well done. Although I can't speak for the accuracy of the Japanese->English translation, the voice actors are actually very well cast this time around. Kt'Hyla (talk) 20:57, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

HD DVD mistake?

edit

Now that HD-DVD is officially dead and I haven't seen the Appleseed Ex Machina HD DVD anywhere, is it possible to remove the part saying the HD-DVD would be released on April 1st, 2008? I think that someone posted that as a Joke (april 1st being april fools) or forgot to notice HD DVD isn't being used anymore. Ph15h (talk) 19:42, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's not a joke, and it was indeed released on Tuesday on HD-DVD. I've seen it in stores and everywhere sells it online. As for HD-DVD not being used anymore, that's not technically true there are still a far number of releases for it in the next few months but it will eventually petter out. Okay, I believe you. It's probably because at one of the Best Buys around here I didn't see it. Would have been a cruel joke if it was fake. Ph15h (talk) 07:17, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
They don't support HD-DVD at Best Buy, so you won't be able to find it there. 76.68.111.39 (talk) 00:27, 27 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

General Edit Needed

edit

This page could use some clean up, and sources. As well, "Kenexes" is spelled several different ways (I thought in the movie it was spelled with a 'C'?). If at all possible, someone should correct this.

Gah! You're right! Some of the sentences in the plot section look like they were written in French, translated via Babel Fish to Portugeuse, and then translated from Portugeuse to English! It's been a while since I've watched Ex Machina in its entirety, but my copy of Strunk and White's Elements of Style and I will be more than happy to take on the task. I've been a Shirow fan for years. Lithonius (talk) 17:52, 12 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Also useful would be a section describing how it differs from the Japanese version.

It's subtitled as Connexus, and all the billboards and video adverts in the film spell it as Connexus quite obviously. I've updated all the spellings of it. Canterbury Tail talk 18:17, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Prada Involvement

edit

According to various sites, and most reliably IGN Miuccia Prada has designed two costumes for Deunnan in this movie. This Site has details on the two costumes, with pictures. IGN just states it in a list of cool things about the movie. It's probably worth mentioning. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ReAn1985 (talkcontribs) 09:29, 7 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, Mrs. Prada has even an honorable mention in movie posters and the end credits ("two of Deunan's costumes"). There's also a commentary in the official website: http://www.exmachina.jp/ Just go to Enter > 03: MUSIC & FASHION > DESIGN BY MIUCCIA PRADA > English, and there's the commentary.
I'll upload a screenshot of her dress at Hitomi's birthday party. --Henrickson User talk | Contribs 19:15, 7 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

EU release issues

edit

Hi.

The DVD edition of Ex Machina was released in the EU - or in Ireland and the UK, at least - on the 30th of May 2008, though I'm not quite sure if the BLu-Ray version was there, too.

(I had a copy on order, and I got a call from one of the HMV stores in Ireland that a copy had come in for me - whic h I promptly bought last Saturday.)

However, the link at HMV's own site listed the 2nd of June as the release date for both the DVD and the BLu-Ray edition.

In any event, the movie is out here - but I'm sorry to say that the link I had to use is a few days off from what I saw in-store... --Nerroth (talk) 19:19, 2 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
