Sebastian Castro (born October 14, 2000) is an American football defensive back for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Early life and high school
editCastro attended Harold L. Richards High School, located in Oak Lawn, Illinois. In Castro's senior season he notched 95 total tackles, with 6.5 tackles for loss, and six interceptions. Castro decided to commit to play college football at the University of Iowa, for the Iowa Hawkeyes.[2][3]
College career
editIn Castro's first season in 2019, he redshirted and did not appear in any games.[4] In the 2021 season, Castro recorded six tackles in four games.[5] During the 2022 season, Castro notched 33 tackles, a sack, five pass deflections, and a pair of forced fumbles.[6] In week two of the 2023 season, Castro finished the day with four tackles and his first career interception, which he returned 30 yards for a touchdown, as helped the Hawkeyes beat rival Iowa State.[7] For his performance versus Iowa State, Castro was named the Big Ten defensive player of the week.[8][9] In week seven, Castro tallied seven tackles with two going for a loss, a pass deflection, and the game sealing interception, as he helped Iowa beat Wisconsin.[10] For his performance of starting off the 2023 season hot, Castro was named a second team midseason All-American.[11][12]
