Misc

edit

The current page is a start. takethemud 01:12, 13 April 2006 (UTC)takethemudReply

Have added Cuba-United States relations to the list, and Cuba and democracy which was needed to take the heat off the main Cuba page (see international coverage [1]) --Zleitzen 14:34, 21 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Celia Sanchez

edit

File:Celia1.jpg The Norwegian wikipedia had this photo - http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bilde:Celia1.jpg - do you think we can use that ? I think it's a much nicer photo than the bizarre big-hair one. It also appears http://www.radiomoron.cu/2006/01/11/celia.asp - without a copyright note (compare the other photo on that page). -- Beardo 03:52, 13 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree it is more natural depiction of Sanchez than the weird Adams family big-hair pose. Go ahead.--Zleitzen 04:06, 13 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I just wait for the copyright police to hit that. I think that would look nice on your women in Cuba article, too. -- Beardo 06:12, 13 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Gore Vidal

edit

Is his visit newsworthy ? "HAVANA -- Celebrated American writer Gore Vidal slammed the four-decade-long U.S. trade embargo against Cuba on Sunday, saying during a visit to the island that he hopes recent changes in U.S. politics will help end the sanctions." - http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/12/10/AR2006121001149.html

And I must say he looked healthier on TV a few minutes ago than in that 2003 file photo. Especially as he's older than Fidel. -- Beardo 06:12, 13 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Banking in Cuba

OK - I've made a start. Feel free to improve. --Beardo 05:01, 14 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Great work Beardo. --Zleitzen 07:17, 14 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Portal:Cuba

edit

Hello everyone. The Cuban Portal has not been edited since early June, and has only received main contributions from one user, User:Zleitzen, who has stated that he/she is inactive for the foreseeable future (last edit on September 29, 2007, after no edits since July 23, 2007). The News section is completely outdated, although articles, pictures, and quotes are in a random quotation, so those aren't affected much. We need a dedicated user(s) who will take a little time of his/her week and update the page, by adding current news every few days and presenting articles, pictures, and quotes when good ones are found.

If the Portal isn't updated regularly, it may be automatically de-featured, since it may fail the FPO criteria #3(4): Featured portals that require maintenance and are not updated for three or more months are summarily demoted.

I'd offer myself for the job, but I'm already maintaining the Portal:Puerto Rico, and I'll be working on featuring other Portals soon. So, any volunteers? - Mtmelendez (Talk) 23:12, 12 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

What all is required to keep this portal updated? John Carter 23:29, 12 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your interest. The news section should be updated with current news, which is right now the most critical part of the portal, and new Cuban articles should be added in the DYK section. I've just added a hidden message at Wikipedia:WikiProject Cuba/New articles so users will post the information when they create new articles. Other than that, include articles and biographies every now and then in the Selected series templates, preferably when articles reach GA or FA which the community likes to present. - Mtmelendez (Talk) 23:57, 12 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
For the interim, I can try to get it updated at around the same time I update the Saints portal. I do think that we'd be better off with someone else though, if they want to come forward. My memory isn't all it could be. John Carter 00:09, 13 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'm afraid I can't maintain it permanently either. I'll contribute a few news stories and update the DYK while we search for a user willing to take the task. But thank you for your time and effort. - Mtmelendez (Talk) 01:20, 13 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

The technological and scientific contributions

edit

There's no article on the technological and scientific contributions Cuba has made! Someone, anyone please wright an article on this subject since I can't due to the fact I can't access the information necessary to writing the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rainboqer (talkcontribs) 23:24, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Abandoned

edit

This portal hasn't been updated in 13 months. I'm afraid that it will undoubtly fall victim to a FPR if it continues unattended. - Caribbean~H.Q. 21:08, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

You may be right in that it hasn't been updated, but so far as I can see everything is on autorotation, the news is a link to the wikinews portal, which is updated regularly there, and there haven't really been any substantive changes in the quality of any articles to add or remove them from the portal, so, basically, it has been more or less allowed to continue as is. If there were to be any significant improvement in any articles, that would be different, but there hasn't been recently. John Carter (talk) 21:13, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
I figure that Che Guevara's demotion halted any possible improvement since early 2008. But still, this portal is lacking some featured content that actually covers Cuba itself. The membranophones and drums lists seem collective to me, possibly more related to the Caribbean project than this one. I find it curious, mostly because my role in Puerto Rico's portal has focused in sorting the selected content, yet including collective articles has never passed through my mind. - Caribbean~H.Q. 21:34, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well, the related project hasn't been very active, so there hasn't been that much positive change. You're right about the non-inclusion of the 2 FLs. Personally, I've never figured out how to include FLs, or even regular Lists, into portals, so I think that's why I didn't. If you do know how to, though, by all means tell me, so that they can be included. John Carter (talk) 21:48, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
FLs would probably fall into "selected content", yet I have never included one in the portal myself. My point was the scope of the lists, we need more material directly discussing Cuba here. If the project is inactive, I figure that an innovative approach can be tried, the GAs can be included as well, serving as some sort of override to the shortage of FAs or FLs. - Caribbean~H.Q. 21:57, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Hotel Vedado

edit

The article Hotel Vedado has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

non notable

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Notice from the Portals WikiProject

edit

WikiProject Portals is back!

The project was rebooted and completely overhauled on April 17th, 2018. Its goals are to revitalize the entire portal system, make building and maintaining portals easier, support the ongoing improvement of portals and the editors dedicated to this, and design the portals of the future.

As of May 2nd, 2018, membership is at 60 editors, and growing. You are welcome to join us.

There are design initiatives for revitalizing the portals system as a whole, and for improving each component of portals. So far, 2 new dynamic components have been developed: Template:Transclude lead excerpt and Template:Transclude random excerpt.

Tools are provided for building and maintaining portals, including automated portals that update themselves in various ways.

And, if you are bored and would like something to occupy your mind, we have a wonderful task list.

From your friendly neighborhood Portals WikiProject. Hope to see you there. Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   07:26, 2 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Subpage tagged as historical

edit

I have tagged Portal:Cuba/Selected articles and pictures, a page "to list Cuba-related material that may be considered for use on Portal:Cuba" as {{historical}}, because the page has not been used since April 2011. North America1000 20:25, 11 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
