    Krista K

Hi. I am looking at the content you restored to Krista K (diff) and trying to understand why you might think that any of it was good enough to bring back. The first part is mostly incorrect infobox parameters that don't work. Then there is some of the the most blatant puffery I have seen on Wikipedia (which is clearly either copied from a fan site or simply written by a fan) and finally a "fun facts" section which is simply not appropriate content for Wikipedia (and also reeks of being copied from a fan site). So I removed it all again. If you are convinced that there is anything legitimate in it (and I am not) please be much more selective about which parts you bring back and make sure to rewrite it neutral tone. To be honest the article still reads like fancruft and I think removing/rewriting poor content rather than adding more is the way to go here. DanielRigal (talk) 09:14, 21 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

I agree with your assessment. I was focused on the "self published" in the ES, the refs didn't look self-published. I didn't look at content which I should have. Thanks for the clean-up and note. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 09:22, 21 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

The facts I put on Fawlty Towers--well, the source is already listed. You guys are the ones who got it all wrong. Terribly wrong. See, Andrew Sachs suffered second-degree burns to his body--not from the fire, but from the sulfuric acid that was applied to his allegedly fireproof jacket (to make it look like his Manuel character was on fire). And not on his hand. He had terrible pain and scars and the BBC paid him the royalty of seven-hundred pounds for damages. Scars which went away, but still... evidence? I believe you guys already have this, don't you? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/8762883/Andrew-Sachs-suffered-burns-on-set-of-Fawlty-Towers.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.62.92.172 (talk) 04:32, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

    Maritime pilot

    Hi Jim1138,

I edited your page to give more information to others about my profession. I am a maritime Pilot and I find that not many people are aware about the work and the responsibilities of a marine Pilot.

Have seen various websites trying to explain this job but most of them are only beating around the bush. Your page could be edited so I was trying to put in the exact nature of my job. I have been doing this work everyday for the past 20 years.

I am not going into the history of the job, neither am I talking from the legal point of view. I am only giving the practical point of view.

    Rest your wish.

    LiDAR

Thank you Jim. I agree. But my first task is to rewrite the article. It is a worthwhile article, but was a mess. We can decide later how much of it is how-to. Describing how LiDAR may be providing erroneous readings is not necessarily how-to, but I defer to those with greater experience.

Hi, having noticed your reverts of the previous edits to this article by User:2a02:c7d:dc08:8400:e172:2a32:158:a3f4, and examined his edits, all he is trying to do is update the kits in the infobox to the correct, current kits. May I suggest that rather than reverting due to lack of a source, perhaps either assist him in this change or direct him to his sandbox until he has perfected the change. A quick look at various other premier league club pages show that references are generally not required alongside the kits in infoboxes, however the everton fc website will confirm they are correct and needed changes, and is clearly a reliable source. I would assist myself, however due to work and other commitments, as well as inexperience in using colours on wiki, I would more than likely just screw it up completely. Uploading and referencing

    Hi Jim

I am a bit stuck.I uploaded an NHTSA manual to WikiCommons. It was on the NHTSA web site and seems to be a document the NHTSA want to make public, I am not sure if it was correct to upload to Commons or even Wikipedia. I have the Commons URL for the document. I now want to add it to the Lidar article references, but for the life of me I cannot get it to look half decent. Can you give me a hint. I am using Visual Editor and a Mac desktop.

    Foucault (talk) 15:33, 31 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

By the way I replied to your message on my talk page, but overlooked pinging you.

    Foucault (talk) 15:40, 31 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Oh. And it would be good to get those manuals you mentioned. Thank you for sourcing them.

    Foucault (talk) 15:42, 31 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

One of the things that seems to be a big deal in radar and lidar is cosine error. I have mentioned in the lidar article. The best way to reference it is to write a WP article on cosine error and link to it. So when I have polished off the lidar article (or someone else does, but I don't see anyone putting up their hand), I think I should write a new article on cosine error. To do that I am going to need to draw a bunch of diagrams, so learning that from the WP help articles is going to be a big treat!

    Foucault (talk) 17:17, 31 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

If it turns out to be OK to upload the NHTSA document, I have given some thought to the categorisation, in ascending order

device specifications -> lidar devices -> technology -> speed limit enforcement -> law enforcement -> US regulatory bodies -> society

    What do you think?

    Foucault (talk) 05:53, 1 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

I could avoid all of these problems by linking to the external source site. In most cases I have no choice as the source documents are copyright, my experience is that a lot of WP external links are broken, this is inevitable with the passage of time.

    Foucault (talk) 06:18, 1 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

OK. I am onto it now. I searched for "Referencing using Visual Editor" and finally came up with a decent help article. Foucault (talk) 04:58, 2 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

I did not know for the summary page. I will take this into account.

I removed the text from the article because it references unrealibale sources. In Serbia, there is a great confilict between the remainins of Serbian Democracy Party and the current Serbian Progressive Party. The reference from the newspaper was created by Serbian Democracy Party and it has false information. This ruins the reputation of John Naisbitt University. UNLESS YOU ARE A VETERAN, DO NOT CHANGE THE ORDER. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CaptSquid (talkcontribs) 23:11, 8 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

@CaptSquid: Actually, I am an Air Force veteran. However, I have no idea what the correct order is, nor do I care what the correct order is. In fact, I have no interest at all in boob candy. So, I am apparently qualified to set the order?
If you note the edit summary, I didn't undo the edit because it was "wrong". I undid it because the editor didn't bother to explain their actions with an wp:edit summary. Did you happen to note the Unexplained removal of content? Ever read the rules and procedures of Wikipedia, or are you just doing it Navy style?
Interesting that Hyman G. Rickover does not have images of his ribbons or awards. George Marshall has smaller award images. I see that John M. Richardson's medals are 80 pixels while William F. Moran's medals are 106 pixels. Since they have the same rank, shouldn't their medals be the same size? And since Steven S. Giordano is a lowly petty officer, shouldn't his medals be smaller then the admirals? Interesting that someone I nor many have never heard of have about the same number of medals as Rickover and Marshall?
BTW: is there something with your cap-key, or does the Navy always type in ALL-CAPS, aka "SHOUTING"?

    Last Exit on Brooklyn change

It seems you have removed an addition to the Last Exit on Brooklyn site where I included the Espresso Float. As the manager of the Last Exit at the time it was moved and a long term patron I did not and do not think I need to cite myself as the source.

I have noticed significant changes to the page over time and the wholesale removal of information. If you were to look at the oldest pages (which I could not find in the "View History" section you will see my name, David Johnson, as the manager during the move.

My question to you, however, is - What gives? What makes you the arbitor of what is added to this page? Tell me what you know of the place? How do you verify the source information that others have provided? Is wikipedia no longer the open sourced place for information?

I am deeply offended that a place where I lived for over 26 years and where I worked for over 8 of them is no longer available to me for editing. I noticed that many of my past edits were removed.

    Episode 08 - Love is Like the Snow Original Air Date = September 1, 2016 Episode 09 - The Chemical Substance of Love Episode 10 - September 15, 2016 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pastellecandy10 (talkcontribs) 12:58, 11 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Pastellecandy10: The unfilled episodes are "commented out" with the use of "<!--" as the start of the commenting out, and "-->" (I added nowiki stuff so it would show here). To add a new episode, move the comment start <!-- down to the next unused episode block. Make sure that the table is closed with the |} and you should be set to update. Please use the "Show preview" button to check that the edit works. If you mess up the table format, you may see some of the stuff normally below the table included inside the table. If you can't figure it out, use your browser's go back button once or twice to restart. See help:table for more info. Cheers Jim1138 (talk)
