Recycled glass and driftwood mobile

Don’t you just love driftwood?  I made this mobile from a great piece of twisty river driftwood, straight out of the Missouri River, and a collection of glass pieces from old broken mobiles.  Three old mobiles to be exact…plus some oval and rectangular chunks of colored glass and a few flat marbles. 

The mobile was my first official project in my new garage work space.

I used fishing line to hang the glass pieces and made double knots to keep the pieces secure.  Then to make sure that the knots didn’t loosen up I used a drop of super glue on each knot. 

The glass makes a very nice tinkling when the wind blows…

The colors are mostly blues, with some clear and some frosted glass…

I drilled seven holes in the driftwood and tied knots around the ovalish shapes to keep the knots from pulling back through the wood.

The mobile isn’t entirely symmetrical but I like that part of it.  It balances well and hangs nicely. 

The mobile got two paws up from Baby Kitty…so I guess it’s OK!

Randomness or can you believe it’s June already?

I love spring with all the baby animals and getting to see the animals in the fields up close…

and the spring storms that bring rainbows…I think I have seen 3 double rainbows this spring already…

This rainbow seemed to be arising from my woods on each side.

I kept Bob and Joy for my brother last weekend and they don’t like to hang out with Bella the Great Dane and my pug Milo. So this is what most of last weekend looked like.  Bella is the neighbor dog who comes to play with Milo almost every day.

They didn’t mind staring at each other through the door though!

Two of my great nieces…Elena in the cowboy hat and Audrey getting hugged.  True to young sister hood, the minute this picture was snapped Elena pushed Audrey away from her!  Silly girls!

This was a magnificently beautiful sky at my brothers house one afternoon…their house is atop a hill and you can see for miles it seems from there.

These yellow iris were in a pot that I tossed into a pile of abandoned flowers at the end of the summer last year.  They started leafing out this spring so I divided them and stuck them back into the water garden and now they are blooming like crazy.  One group of them I planted in the dirt.  They are also blooming!

My mom came and stayed this last week, I am taking her home this weekend.  I love having her visit, here Milo and Mom are coming back to get the mail. 

I think this picture looks funny, looks like Stan is pointing right to Mom’s face.

We walked the Katy Trail near Rocheport and saw all sorts of reptilian wildlife…this snake crossed our path and we allowed him plenty of room…

and this baby snapping turtle was so feisty, we picked him up to move him to the other side of the trail (in the direction he was initially headed) and he got all wiggly and opened his mouth!  He didn’t get hold of anything to bite, because we caught on quick!

The woods are so peaceful and pretty! 

Stan and I have been doing a lot of walking along nature trails and really enjoy the great outdoors!  Mom and I went to Kansas City this past week during her visit and did some shopping at City Market there. 

Hope your week goes well…I am going to start building an ark if the rain doesn’t stop here!  I think we have caught up now on rainfall!!

Randomness

What is the level above batshit?!?!  This pretty much sums up the month of April…just saying!  Here’s to May being better all around!!

How cute is this iPhone case?  Mod Podge…thinking I may have to try that!  I think I saw these ideas in my new Living magazine.

And along the same lines, there are these great Mod Podged drawer pulls!  MUST try these too…how cool would these be on a kids dresser?

I’m loving spring right now…love the daffodils and the grape hyacinths.

The hammock is ready for some weekend lounging. 

I went walking around Runge Nature Center with a friend and got to see these deer and turkeys eating beside each other.  Pretty cool, I got way close to them.

The babbling brook was very peaceful and spring was showing its fresh face all around.

I know this pic is fuzzy, but I had never seen turkeys with their feathers all spread out!  And when we gobbled at them they gobbled back!

What I have been doing lately…

I have been walking a lot lately on the Katy Trail at Rocheport.

It is just so beautiful…love watching the sun set on the river and walking through this tunnel. 

I love to take pics along here…great edits on instagram!

The last walk I took I went with a friend…it’s easy to kill several hours there.

And it is a great place to talk.

I don’t know if it is just because I have been looking for them, but I have been seeing a lot of beautiful skies lately!

I put this picture on Facebook and got several big orders to make these!

This week at work I packed up my whole office…they are moving early next week…while I am on vacation here: 

I cannot wait to do this…

And I have a horrible cold/sinus infection (I blame it on the flu shot I got this week—I always get a bad cold/the flu after my flu shot) that I am trying to fix before I fly to New York!

Today I drug out all my wool and started making these Christmas trees!
